does anybody else feel sad watching this? back then americans could choose between an inspirational young leader and a universally respected war hero. now they have to choose between senile and crazy.
@@BilalRashid-qt2uh don't worry there were likely tons of people primarily in the rural south that voted for McCain simply because Obama is black/ thought to be a Muslim so it averaged out.
@@michael.8553 Nobody voted him because he was black. We voted for him because the Republicans messed up the economy in 2000s, Bush started a nonsense war for money. A fact, Dick Cheney made money off of the war. While thousands of people dying for their selfish causes. Obama helped us out of recession, brought millions of jobs back. Helped the gdp growth, brought health care. He did his best with Republicans trying stop him from getting anything done. Obama dominated the Republicans in 2008 and 2012 election.
I’m pretty sure the popular vote was never a thing in America. Also why would you prioritize making the election more fun to watch rather than making it fair
That because Obama had charisma and character to connect to people, plus he has some roots in the Midwest and knew what was needed. Hillary was out of touch and just as delusional as Trump, nobody wanted both and yet Americans still selects the worst candidates as possible.
@@batmangummies5393 pulled us outta recession gave 10 million Americans healthcare, oversaw marriage equality, the Paris accord and the Cuban thaw and Iran nuclear deal. Considering he didn't even have congress for half his presidency he did a damn good job
Because he is, the only President to reach beyond 350 electoral votes in 21st century, only President who had charisma and used it to bring people together regardless they were against him or not. Only President in 21st century to be loved where ever he went and was able to walk in public with people from both sides shaking his hand and being happy to see him.
Yeah, those were the good ole days...lol now, with Trump, all they do is project their corruption and false claims of voter fraud onto those of us who didn’t vote for Orange Monkey.
Mr. Gabe It was Ohio, because it has supported the winner in every election since 1896 (with the exceptions of 1944 and 1960), and no Republican has ever won the White House without winning Ohio. Two Republicans have won without Pennsylvania: Nixon in 1968 and George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004.
BenavidesJorge Almost the same as 2012, but Trump will win Iowa and probably Ohio. Clinton could squeak out a win in NC. Other than that, I doubt there will be anything significant. But it's too early to tell, too many undecided.
I'm independent and call it in my view. Its not a good look when Joe is forced to go to Kenosha WI by his campaign team, Joe was heckled and harassed about it by ppl in both Michigan and Wisconsin.
So weird to see how the electorate has changed. Indiana went blue, Missouri and even North Dakota were considered tossups, and Arizona and Georgia were still pretty solidly red.
Colorado was a swing state back then now it's a reliably Blue state that Biden won by 13 percent and Virginia was a Red state that is now a Blue state that he won by 10 Percent.
This was a bit of a wave election - the outgoing president Bush had approval ratings in the 20s and caused the worst financial crisis (well, up to that time) since the Great Depression, got stuck in two seemingly endless overseas wars, and had a reputation for running a corrupt ship. Of course the country was going to choose the Democrats
I remember when I was 10 years old, not caring about politics, watching this with my parents. While they were in the other room, Obama won Ohio. I said so, and they came RUNNING into the living room, clamoring “That’s it! Obama won!” And they were in such high spirits the rest of the night.
That's because of the West Coast onslaught of 78 Democratic votes. Meaning, in November of this year, as long as the Democratic nominee hits 192 electoral votes before 11pm EST, you can unofficially declare them the winner before 11 o'clock even rolls around, since 192+78 = 270.
I think he was doomed from the start with Bush having an approval rating below 30%. This was made worse by Obama being insanely charismatic and the first black candidate to get on a presidental ticket.
@@KithroGames Well that's no differerence to previous elections, so your argument is invalid. If the difference is so high that the remaining votes dont change anything, the winner can be called.
This set up is so classy, they should do this same style when announcing the elections every term! It reminds me of how South Korea announces their election results. Every time there's an election, there's a theme. And one year, they did Harry Potter, so they did animations of wizards fighting with the faces of candidates before showing the percentages. For the 2022 presidential election, they did amusement park rides, and showed Lee Jae-myung slipping from his seat to symbolize that he was losing ground against Yoon Suk-yeol
Thats because Obama was strong candidate and dominated the Republicans. Bush era, was full of conspiracies and accusations of Bush cheating the elections. Bill dominated in the 90s. Reagn conquered the electoral map against the Democrats in the 80s.
@@BiG-JuPO1O1, The 70s were divided but marked with Watergate and Nixon's landslide. The 60s dominated by Democrats until 1968. The 50s domination for the Republican under Gen. Eisenhower. The 40s and 30s Roosevelt all the way !
@@k4four615 Yep, in the 70s. States where shaping their political views. After parties started to slowly transition into new era and different political views.
I was in college. This was the first presidential election in which I could vote,. I had voted in my state's gubernatorial and house election two years prior, and the special election one year later. Many of my fellow students stripped down to their underwear and ran around campus to celebrate. I didn't. I'd done more than my fair share of work on the campaign. Just a couple of fists in the air and a deep sigh of relief.
After a dip in the market, there tends to be a huge boom in the market, but due to Obama's strangulation of business with huge regulations, the affordable care act etc. the growth was minimal. Oh and don't forget when he handed guns to Isis in Benghazi.
TheGame2224 Obama was the best presdeint ever no matter what people say about him trump bush Regan all racist republican s the republican party is meant for the racist sexist unprofessional white rich man or femalems quite obvious
Blizzard the only reason why Trump won was because he lied to all his supporters about everything, manipulated all of them into believing whatever he said and be a total dick to everyone. Hillary was kind to all, rational with everything, did great things and has been active in politics since the 1960's. Sad to see how Americans will believe everything they hear
Cause the orange president has been screaming fraud when his lawsuits & cases have been thrown out of court, so we have this video of how great & civil things used to be before the Trump era
@Just Some Communist With Internet Access yeah, that is a "main"stream media talking point. I don't know ANYONE who disliked Obama for his color / race. That is the dumbest thing I ever heard, race is irrelevant to policy.
@Just Some Communist With Internet Access Well sure, the mainstream narrative practically praised him.. also the mainstream narrative &(people who follow) always add 'race' to the equation, making "the" 'racism' only relevant to them.
@Just Some Communist With Internet Access What you mean how? Where were you in the 2000s? When Republicans were messing up the economy, having thousands of Americans dying in nonsense war that they started. All because they're making money out of it. Millions lost their jobs and gdp was down, because of Bush/Republicans. Thats why Obama won by huge margin, and got reelected in 2012.
superadrigamer same hoping for our new president to be a good leader and I truly hope it's Hilary Clinton, even if both had lied as well she deserves to show us that she can !
McCain did not win the Presidency (twice), but he was a winner in American government, history, and life. May he Rest In Peace (1936-2018). Still, GOBAMA!!!! OBAMA '08!!!!!!
I am, I think Sen. Obama has a lead because he is young and has charisma, but McCain is also pretty good, a war hero, and long live legislator, but I like Obama the most, I think he is gonna win, what do you think? McCain or Obama? I won't argue with you if you think different from me.
@@mikaelleonbriones6356 Wow, how times have changed. Now it's Romney's turn up to bat. Do you think he's gonna beat Obama? His economy has had staggered improvement but he's still pretty popular because of the Osama thing.
This was the most monumental day for Black Americans to get to witness in our lifetime the first black president of a country who enslaved a entire race for decades and decades and decades to now rule the land of there abuser through voting 🗳️. It was truly a monumental event to witness.
If there was one word to describe John McCain, it would be "hero". He was one of those politicians who you knew wasnt playing partisan games, and only wanted what was best for Americans. Despite spars with 45, he is one of the most revered people to have served in public office
That's because Obama won landslide victories in most of the states he won except Indiana and North Carolina, which he won by small margins, and they only knew after all the votes were counted. However, by that point it didn't matter, he had already secured well over 270 electoral votes to win. Flipping Ohio and Florida was really what did it, but Obama also made states like Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and Virginia become safe Blue states as they have all gone Blue in every election since then.
@Oh yeah yeah Oh yeah yeah No, he didn't want them to be sending in ballots in Pennsylvania (which didn't have to have postmarks by the way and is obviously bred fraud) three days after the election.
I still remember watching this live; I was 11 and I was supposed to be asleep lol now I'm in college and it will be my first time voting. Time goes by so fast.
This was the greatest night of Chris Matthews's life. Now that Barack Obama was president-elect, Chris Matthews knew he would be able to talk about his favorite person for at least the next four years. You can sense his excitement in this video.
mdgraves02 After GW Bush... Obama has caused over 9 Trillion dollars in Debt... Don't try to change the subject bud. Obama has been President for almost 8 years now. Explain why his budgets put us 9 Trillion more into debt? Explain why he added twice as much debt as GW Bush? Bush Bush Bush Bush.... You want the facts on Bush? How about talking about Clinton and why the economy collapsed under Bush due to Clinton's policies hmmm? How about why 9/11 happened 9 months into Bush's Presidency? How come Clinton did not protect this country and prevent the attacks that were planned that his intelligence knew about? I bet you will blame Bush for when Clinton repealed Glass-Steagle which De-Regulated his buddies on Wall-Street too hmm? I bet you will blame Bush for when Clinton forced private banks to give out home loans to anyone including unqualified people and causing the stock market to crash when those loans all went into default under Bush. How about why Clinton thought he had the right to rob the Social Security Trust Fund and add it to his "Surplus". Yes let's talk about Bush like his recovery acts that Saved our banks and the Economic Recovery Acts he signed that allowed the recovery that is taking place in America. Let's talk about the 2,000 plus Domestic Drilling Contracts that he signed that allowed all the Domestic oil that is currently being produced that has allowed our oil and gas prices to drop. Let's talk about Bush with facts. Your not going to like them at all bud... Now back to Obama and what he has done to our nation with his Anti-American Socialist policies..... Care to continue with someone educated with facts? Or you just going to blame Bush like your Liberal Media Brainwashed you to do? Either back up as for why we are 9 Trillion Dollars more in Debt Under Obama or STFU and move on...
probably will in 2020 too unless Trump or Republicans really fuck up, but I can see it be a battleground in 2024, depending on how good the incumbent Democratic president is.
Before Trump, many times during the election closing times, we would get most states’ “projected winner.” See, how he came along and made everything upside down, bad and repugnant. Can’t wait for his ratchet behind to be gone.
@@waspsandwich6548 That correct too but it's usually based off certain districts that has a good history remaining safe bet for political party win. Democracts first states to be called are usually Massachusetts, Vermont, and Delaware. Republicans it's West Virginia, and Kentucky.
