Love the precision in trimming the old light cover to fit the new camera! I am the same way, make it look like factory. Great job and thanks for the inspiration!!
@@weekendwrenchin9267 Thank you for the video, my question is the shielded wire (the power source from the rear backout light) is connect to 3rd pin which one is it looking from the rear left or right ?
Sorry, but I don't have any recommendations for aftermarket units. None of my vehicles have aftermarket navigation/display screens so I wouldn't want to tell you to go with brand "x" and it not work out for you.
@@weekendwrenchin9267 Is it possible to get NAV from Subaru itself? If they put it in your 2008 wouldn’t it reason that they have one we could buy from the dealer?
@@HisValor I'm sure you could probably find the part numbers for the Factory Nav system components, and order them. But honestly if you're trying to add Nav to a non-nav vehicle. Simply for a backup camera. An aftermarket setup (radio unit with video display and port for camera input, along with a camera) most likely would be more cost-effective.
I own a 2008 Outback XT and am interested in the factory nav screen - which I have never before seen on an '08. Could I find an insert for that screen surround with the center air ducts? Or do I have to buy a whole new dash? For either answer, could you provide me the part number, or point me to an aftermarket source?
that's the part of the job that gives me some thoughts! Did you just push the wire or did you use some "special" trick to reach the A pillar? I would like to buy a rear Camera for me Outback 2008 where installed a Sony 2 DIN (XAV-AX100) but I don't want to do a mess in the entire car!
I just did this for my son’s 2007 Outback XT Limited with factory Nav. Honestly the most difficult part was figuring out how to route the wire from the camera inside the tailgate. (I opted for the camera that sits just on top of the license plate frame.) One of the plastic inserts that is used to secure the license plate was broken and missing so I used that hole to route the wire inside. The license plate is secured only by the top two screws anyway. Getting the RCA connector threaded through the rubber grommet from the tailgate to the body was a pain, but doable. I dropped the very back of the headliner down just far enough to get the wire from the grommet out to the side of the headliner. Routing the wire along the headliner was actually easy. It just tucks under the edge above the windows. For a couple of DIY’ers it took us about four hours to complete the install. Someone that knows what they are doing could do it in much less time.
