I was 9 years old when the Phillies won. I remember my dad waking my brother and I up to watch the last inning. I didn’t understand how amazing it was at the time, but I remember my dad crying and cheering like a maniac. I thought he was crazy, because in my mind, I was thinking “it’s just baseball”. Flash forward ten years to the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. I get it now. I screamed and cheered and cried right alongside my dad, family, and our friends. I waited 3 hours in line that night to get championship gear at Dick’s. I teared up driving on my way to work the next day while I listened to the radio replay highlights.
Would be possible if we stopped trading people away like idiots. We traded every last good player away. That's why I'm a Kings, Spurs, Ravens, and Orioles fan now. I can't stand Philly teams
EN, no you are a fan of those teams because you are a front runner. Don't act like you are a great loyal fan when you left for any team that is doing good because Philadelphia was struggling a bit.
+ClassicRocker61 He tried to sound excited after Ishikawas pennant clinching hr but, it just didn't sound right. If it's not St. Louis, he aint jizzing all over them. Should've heard him in the NLDS last year
I'll never understand the hate Joe Buck gets for this call. The words "PHILLIES are World Champions" are all that I needed to hear. And then he shut up and let the celebration speak for itself for two minutes. I honestly love the call. There was no overdoing it and those four words were authoritative enough to give me chills. I mean, I obviously love HK's call more because his was more exciting in the sense that he was actually rooting for the Phillies. Buck is just neutral.
A momento like that is to get excited and more so he always has been very very bland. And was naturally seen last night as the Braves became champions against the tricky and stinky team called Astros.
He was like Vin Scully and didn’t talk for 2 minutes afterwards. Vin pioneered it and Joe is just learning from him. Take the Gibson home run for example.
I remember watching this game when I was 8 with my dad and how excited I was when I saw the final pitch and Brad Lidge drop to his knees, what a phenomenal night it was
I HAVE BEEN A PHILLIES FAN FOR 56 YEARS. 2008 WAS GREAT BUT I SHALL NEVER FORGET THE 1980 PHILLIES WHEN THEY WON THEIR FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE THEY WERE BORN ON TUESDAY,MAY 1,1883 AT RECREATION PARK.
A great moment to see the Phillies to win the world championship since 1980 and since the Sixers won the NBA Finals in 1983.Since then I didn't think we would ever see a world title in this city. Will we see the Phillies win it all again in 2024?
What a great f*%king team that was.....My dad grew up in Philly and he was speechless after this game. Thank you players for making some of us believe again.
Greatest moment in sports I ever saw. I watched the Phillies fail year after year since I was a kid, and just wanted to see them win it all one single time in my life. And it happened. And I'm forever thankful
My thoughts exactly... ironic, I just happened to be reminiscing with this video tonight as well. Feels good to see the 2008 boys back together again in their prime. Great moment in the life of every Philadelphian.
My dad was 2 minutes late to me being born cus he was watching the last at bat on the hospital TV. He’s the soul reason why I like the Phillies so much.
I’ll never forget this night. I probably shouldn’t remember considering the condition I was in😉. My ringtone was Harry Kallas saying “Swing and a miss, struck him out the Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 world champions of baseball”. They went down hill after that🤕
2:54:16, "The 0-2 Pitch... SWING AND A MISS! STRUCK HIM OUT!!!!!! THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES ARE 2008 🌎 CHAMPIONS OF ⚾️!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"-one of the final calls ever made by Harry Kalas, who was also the voice of NFL Films since 1975, before his 💀 less than a year later. Today, Tom McCarthy is the main voice of the Phillies.
I was 16 in junior year of high school and watched the whole game. I was so happy. Half of my school were absent for the parade. 😂 Hoped we won again this year but I still love the Phillies. ❤️
I Was a Sophmore in High School When This Happened a Magical Night For Me Being a Phillies Fan I'll Never Forget It Before The Flyers and Eagles Get Their Titles Go Phils!
Idc baseball will never feel like this again in Philly. Whether they win another one in the near future or not. This team was surreal. The atmosphere was surreal. Not even in Philly but including the suburbs, south jersey etc…
During the night of this game (after the delay) I was 10 years old. My mother called my father from work asking him to put me to bed. He "attempted" and I went to his room to watch the game instead. He let me come back downstairs to finish the game with him. I was so excited when the Phils won that I literally ran around the house a few dozen times. It was the greatest night of my life.
When this happened I was in middle school 7th grade. I remember half way through the series my math teacher talking about all the players and how excited he was. After they won the 5th game the day of the parade in Philly school attendance was expected to be below 10% so they closed school for the day. Back then I could have cared less about baseball and sports in general. But as I got older I got into sports more. I wish I cared back then and played sports because I would have been a good football and baseball player.
I was born the year the won the first one so I bear no attachment emotionally to that one, in 83, I was in TX when the Sixers won our last World title, again too young to really understand the gravity of the situation. But this moment... was a moment as a Philly fan I've waited my whole life to be old enough to enjoy. I had my finger on my cell to call my grandmother in Philly to share the moment with her. I woke up my 2 1/2 year old son so he could say he was there to witness something no one had seen in Philadelphia for 25 years. Too special to put into words.
I was in SC at the time with no TV. You couldn't bribe anyone to watch baseball. I had to follow the game on a shitty app on a flip phone. Thanks for posting this
He didn't really take a great anything into the ground frankly. He sort of just signed them right into it lol. The huge contracts that he couldn't get rid of. The problem was that he didn't do anything, not that he did really.
in the long run it didn't work out. bottom line is the phils had 4 legit years to be champs. they lost to a historic rockies team in 07 otherwise they could have stacked up well against the rest of the NL, they went to 2 WS , won one , got to the NLCS, in those 4 years. If i could take it back I wouldn't, that was an exciting run . there are a lot of teams who have never had a stretch like that. why complain?
Such a happy night for philly fans, so fucking passionate, I was 13 years old too bad Harry Kalas wasn't calling it, ironic it was his last phillies season
The thing that I remember about this series was the fact that it ended in November. I was beginning to wonder given how cold it was at that time of year if they were going to be able to pay this series out. So much for the boys of summer. Glad that the Phillies won since I usually root for the National League teams.
Actually didn't end in November. Game 5 started on October 27th and then resumed October 29th and they won late that night. I remember so clearly because my birthday is the 30th and it was the best way to go into a birthday I could ever imagine
Mannn I remember I had the radio on because the tv broadcast was so bad..."it's the 0-2 SWING AND A MISS STRUCK HIM OUT THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES ARE THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OF BASEBALLLLLLLL" how boring it must of been for those not listening to the radio
The last 3 innings of this game after the 2-day delay created maybe the most unique situation in MLB history, a 3-inning sprint to decide the championship. And enough drama happened in those 3 innings to fill an entire game.
I remember my dad making us listen to the game on the radio instead of watching it on the TV. after the win, we all got in the car and drove around the streets of Philly; it was absolute insanity
+EDPs Double Chin Yes y'all can. Yall can pitch decent and hit decent. Just because you don't have Hamels, Rollins, and Utley anymore doesn't mean you can't win. The main issue is y'all are playing 2 of the best teams in baseball 19 times each. Y'all are going to be all right. But, if you don't win it, y'all are going to give the Mets and Nationals some serious crap all year long.
Nash wayz i think we can beat those two teams tbh because they dont have that great of a hitting lineup, especially the nats but other teams outside of our division like the cubs which we just got swept by them, we are going to lose big time because they have great bats
I'd take Harry Kalas' game-winning call over Joe Buck's any day. *_"One strike away; nothing-and-two, the count to Hinske. Fans on their feet; rally towels are being waved. Brad Lidge stretches. The 0-2 pitch - swing and a miss, struck him out! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of baseball! Brad Lidge does it again, and stays perfect for the 2008 season! 48-for-48 in save opportunities, and let the city celebrate! Don't let the 48-hour wait diminish the euphoria of this moment, and the celebration. And it has been 28 years since the Phillies have enjoyed a World Championship; 25 years in this city that a team that has enjoyed a World Championship, and the fans are ready to celebrate. What a night!"_*
We'll be fine? Jeff Franceour is our cleanup hitter lol. I know it won't always be like that but the future of this team is nowhere near fine right now.
