2009 chevy silverado crazy electrical issues, the problems I had, and the resolution to repair it back to normal. Hope this helps anyone who is going crazy with these problems!!
I have a baseline 08 silverado. Man ive had almost all the same problems going on over a year and some. This video saved my live. I pulled my seat and all the flooring up in an hour and found the computer covered in water and corrosion. Surprisingly it drives with it all removed untill i can get the part. Thankyou so much.
I've literally searched and searched for something to point me in the right direction. And until I came across your video , Notta! I was relieved to come across your video. Now I can stop trying to figure out this B.S. problem. I'll tell ya, this is the last Chevy I'll ever own!!! I've had more damn electrical issues that one person should ever have!! Thanks again!!
Just fixed my 2011 Silverado LS thanks to your video! I had the service traction control service stabilatrack code on the dash. Tachometer wouldn’t work and was shifting really hard almost stalled at one point. A trip to advance auto parts and $45 latter all fixed! Thank you!
I do only have this with a friend's truck, and it started . It looks like a little stereo booster down there below the stereo and I believe it was only 2 of the connecters that come off. I'll look for the correct video and post it. I have a caddy with OnStar and no problems with it. Not sure why there is a difference. Although OnStar still answers in the 2002 caddy. Kinda freaky
I'm having the exact same prob right now with my 2011 silverado. Thanks for sharing! Esp the issue that was causing all the random problems with the gauges and read out
Having same problem, I think,😒My 2009 Yukon seems to be having a issue between the stereo and when I start her,The radio cd changer will keep running sometimes, then I will get in the truck and she doesn't start, and then I keep pushing the stereo button on and off, I am frustrated as hell, but I thank God there people on here who have some type of solution.... I'm glad I found this clip and any other info or ideas anyone has would be appreciated 👍❤️
I had these issues in my 07 Tahoe Traction control off Service stabilitrack Speedometer going crazy Air conditioner blowing heat and air at the same time Park assistant not working Electric lift gate not working Transmission running in 3rd gear all the time unless I manually shifted I took it to a non Chevrolet shop and they replaced the TCM, and I haven't had a problem since. Crazy, I know, but that's all they did.
@@deseraydugan8795 I meant to say TCM. Transmission Control Module. I know that doesn't make sense with all the other unrelated issues going on, but it's possible that they have all of that stuff tied together some way. It's all about making you take it back to them. If your service engine light is on, have a friend or a part store like AutoZone to hook up a obd scanner to it. That way if you take it to the shop you can tell them that you hooked up a scanner to it and that's what it told you. If you sound like you half way know what you're talking about, they're less likely to try to pull a fast one on you. By the way, taking it to a GM dealership is not necessarily your best option. Find out about the mechanics that work where you're taking it. A privately owned shop fixed mine. This problem was not just in the Tahoe, but all GM trucks in 07, according to blogs I read and videos I watched.
@@vjsm4102 I had that too, but it stopped after I pulled the negative battery cable for 24 hours. As for the speed, it sounds like your truck is in limp mode. If the app sensors are not functioning properly they will send the wrong signal to the computer. They sense the pressure you're putting on the pedal and tell your car how fast to go. I found out about the app sensors when I had the reduced engine power mode in my 2003 trailblazer. See the pattern here? 🤦 There was nothing wrong with the speed cables that they used in the 80s and 90s.
@@dbeene36 yeah it's goes haywire. Yesterday the truck was running and locked and unlocked my door on the inside and it stopped the truck.it only happens every couple weeks.
I’ve been stranded at my buddies and tore my engine bay apart tracing wires to figure out what was wrong with my truck. Seemed like so many gremlins overnight! No radio , no crank, no auto lights , no gauges. Unplug one harness and it all went away!! Holy fuck you just saved me 1000 ez at the mechanics . Your a saint and I can’t believe that worked. Chevy needs to rethink that holy hell. I’ve been camping all summer the last 2 years in this truck. And now I know Chevy designed it to kill me , purposefully a terrible design and hidden from common sense fixes. Try figuring this out in the mountains.! I’ve spent 5 days in a city this year. Thank god last night was one of them
I have a start then immediate stall, no codes, replaced fuel pump, fuel pressure switch, fuel injectors, fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse, and the fuse is nor receiving power i pull the fuse box cleaned it and checked the wires for damage/corrosion there was not the only thing left is the fuse box itself, i believe the circuit board it’s self may be damaged but i cant tell for a absolute, welcome to my life as a mechanic 😖
Same issues but I have a few codes to go off of but I have the same issues basically except if my battery is hooked up, my fuel pump is always running constantly and it drains the battery so it might be the ECM computer or it might be the fuel pressure monitor near the spare tire is what I’m being told. I don’t know if you have. Fixed yours.
2009 Silverado same thing going on I am going to try cleaning the ground under the seat as I read in the comments under my seat tomorrow I will post if it did or didn't work thank u all for your input very helpfull and fook 700 dollar to a garage
I'm having electrical issues also but they seem to be different from yours. My truck is a 2009 also and acting like it's Christine. I'm thinking it's a ground problem. Just have to find out where they all are.
The electrical system on these trucks is literally the worst concept ever created by man and the person who designed it is the worst human being to ever live.
It is like my Sierra 1500 regular cab was designed by jokers. The AC turns on whenever the cabin recirculate switch is pressed. It has a switch for the AC, that does not work when in recirculate mode is active. WTF? The seat back release only moves the seat back forward 4 inches. WTF? The jack tools are located in the middle behind the seats and are difficult to access or reinstall. If you weight more than 200 pounds, good luck getting to it. WTF? The plastic hub cap nut become loose. So if you forget to tighten them periodically, the hub cap will fall off. Also, they are plastic, so don't over tighten them. WTF?
What a nightmare encountering such. What the hell is an air bag module and the fact that it caused the electrical system to self-destruct. Back feeding into the BCM? Instead of making a simple electric system for the buyer to be able to easily debug and repair , they sabotage the truck electrical with some BCM crap. I went outside one late night to check on my truck and found my brake lights including the middle one glowing in the dark with the truck turned completely off. I have to pull the fuse to cut them off. Checking everything. Fully tested brake light switch. The read I get from internet searching is that likely the BCM. Not going to get screwed by dealer or any other mechanic Joe. I likely going to rewire the break light switch to the fuse and bypass that BCM . Actually like to find instructions on how to remove and bypass the whole BCM rigging. just want to make my lights work again so I can pass inspection and make my truck legal to drive.
My Chevy started acting up right after a new battery change. Then answer I found was the ANL fuse on the power wire on the battery wasn’t passing the 14 volts all the time. Replaced it and problem solved. Crazy seeing lights turn off and on and even my door locks on and off.
Mine is doing the same things. As far as the radio goes I have to push the eject button to turn on the radio and turn it off before I turn the truck off or my battery will drain.
That’s sucks cuz I really like the trucks they are strong and last long. I hate the electric ⚡️ and the plastic on them. I’m going for a Tacoma yes I know. It has no big balls. But with gas right now I’m good. Just for now until GM fixes all the bullshit. Then I will move to a Chevy. Good luck with the truck bro. Thanks for the video.
Instrument panel airbag module it cost 25 bucks folks if your trucks dash is acting up I would advise buy the part if it doesn’t fix it well you are out 25 dollars instead of 700 dollars then you can take that money you saved and buy a scan tool and learn to use it there not that hard to understand and will save you thousands of dollars in the long run! Don’t want to learn it find someone who does that’s honest take it to them don’t pay chevy’s overhead
I've said for YEARS that gm products have the worst electrical problems. My dad said I was crazy, but he barely uses the radio on his truck. My electrician cousin agreed with me. Asians always have had better electronics. Hence why I stay with samsung but anyhoo. The motors are bulletproof on gm!!! Needless to say, I just purchased my first gm truck. A 2011 sierra 1500 SLT. Pray for me guys... lol. Been in different nissans for the past 20 years.
I have the same problem occur yesterday your third video you put up is what I have but it won't crank over I checked for that Sdm modular that you said was under the floor seat I didn't find nothing
I had a 81 Chevy back I’m high school at the time the truck was 3 years old and already had electrical problems (dome light , horn ) I noticed every truck I seen 80 up to 86 had a horn button added to the column because nobody wanted to tear into steering wheel column
I am having the same problem with my 2009 Chevy Avalanche, my battery was dead when i charged the battery my A/C is not working, my radio is not working, and I have a lot of lights on the dashboard.
Listen. My battery cables were corroded from inside! and it was causing every problem u can imagine. I went and pulled on the cables real hard broke the corrosion loose inside and bam! Everything works normal now. Battery Cables!
Below the stereo is the OnStar unit. After years it ends up disabling the ignition. It's Ina u tube video . That's what it was . You have to dig a little.
My 08 2500HD has the "service trailer brake" , "brake" , "ABS" lights come on when I take off fast or corner hard. The lights go off if I turn the truck off then start it back. I am thinking ground wire issue. Anyone encountered this ? I already replaced the trailer brake module on the frame behind the rear drivers side wheel on the frame. I replaced the trailer brake slide switch on the dash too. Same issue persists.
try pulling any codes? checking grounds like the battery to block and chassis, ground strap from block to chassis on driver side, now this abs module thats under the driver seat is what im checking next on my rig. Hope its not the BCM, but assuming bad grounds in various places all over the vehicle are causing issues with all the computers in these year GM's. good luck.
I'm having the same issue with my 2009 Silverado, mine started with the gauges/lights going all crazy. I checked the SDM airbag module but there are no signs of water damage. I have cleaned the ground and now my truck won't even start anymore. smh. Also, I noticed that the truck is stuck in some type of safe mode or something because it won't shift to second gear. Any input that you guys can give is surely appreciated.
Check your negative battery terminal for a good connection. Check each leg where it ends. One leg ends on the block and the other under the radiator near the passenger side. If all of those are good check the positive cable from the mega fuse to the main fuse box under your hood. The connection snaps into the bottom of the fuse box housing. It can get loose and smash the female side. I have a 2009 Silverado same issue. It was a bad negative terminal connection.
@@lindsaymarie7238 replace FSCM fuel system control module. Its a computer that talks to all of the other modules. Located drivers side rear just to the drivers side of the spare tire. Under the bed of the truck. Get a new one and have it programmed to your trucks VIN#.
i have a 2002 chevy suburban. I hooked my battery up the wrong way on accident. it killed my alternator, a/c, speedometer, cigarette lighter. what do i do to fix it?
Trying wiggling your negative battery cable and see if it starts. mine will act dead and sometimes click, then I wiggle the negative battery cable and that gets it to start. In already replaced the starter and battery last year and it worked for a while, I think it’s just the dumb ground battery cable.
@@nickk4010 I replaced all that, even negative battery cable. Worked well for a bit, then started all over again. So fed up. Chevy dealer said nothing is wrong, 2 other shops say 2 different things, and 2 mechanics said other crap, new solenoid put on...so sick of this. How the hell do we all have the same problems, but still mechanics don't have answers?!?!?
A new battery cleared up my parasite draw. 05 Yukon/ suburban. Everyday my radio clock was at 12. And the battery was going near dead and 16 hours. Now I just have to do with all the other issues. Stupid GM
Anyone can help me?....so i tryed turning on my truck one morning and i needed a starter so i got one and this morning when i put the started and as i am reconnecting the battery it is trying to turn on by itself(doesnt tho) what could it be?
General Motors Trucks used to be the best ! Chevy or Jimmy's ! Then it would seem, they hired engineer's that felt compelled to justify their positions ! IMHO ! SO.....they devised the worst, most problematic electrical system in the industry ! Then want the price of a house for a vehicle ! All it would take for someone to overwhelm this business, is to design a limited bell's and whistle version, let's call it a " KISS " version ! And I think they would sell trucks faster than they could build them ! Just Say'n ! 🤔
@@aaronbishop2786 when I got mine fixed by the dealer my radio was and is working good but that didn't fix the TPM or tire pressure monitors . I have 2 on the driver's side that I think all is wrong is the batteries are dead now . A year ago they would work perfectly when warm out but when fall came ( I live in Wisconsin) and it got down to freezing the 2 on the driver's side would either work some times or not . As of typing this now both stopped working so I think the batteries are dead in those 2 . There are videos on RU-vid hear showing they can be changed out the batteries that is but you have to cut the case open then replace the batteries and silicone them back together again which to me I could do it easily enough but I think I would rather buy new ones that come with a warranty and be done with them . These TPM can also start to leak air when they go bad so if the tires on the ones not working are slowly loosing air it's because of the TPM valve is going bad and leaking .
Why so they can just blow up out of know where and possibly catch fire and 2021-2023 Kia k5 are having to do recall on the whole wiring harness at least with Chevy you get 100k or so before these problems
Just had mine replaced & programmed and the problems are still there. Both positive and negative battery cable near the post have exposed and slightly corroded wires. Heard this is a issue from manufacturer. Just replaced a corroded mega fuse and cleaned the connectors. Not sure if any of this is actually the cause....
I have a Chevy Silverado 2009 2500hd 6.0 gas a couple days ago I was driving and a code started saying reduced engine power while driving so I stoped . I used a check engine to erase the codes it was throwing at me . I believe I have a short somewhere Becuase when I turn my left blinker on my interior lights will blink n dim at the same time .
My issue is that I had a bad alternator, and it was draining the battery. I got a new alternator and charged up my battery and installed everything back but now when I use my turn signals they don’t work and they also don’t pop up on the dash. Fuses seem fine but still haven’t found a solution..anybody have this problem? 2013 Silverado here
Here's a test to everyone's electrical knowledge. 2005 Tahoe. New battery. Starter is good. Turn the key and everything comes on, but the starter doesn't turn over. Try connecting a wire from the 87 pin on the relay to the positive on the battery with the key in the run position and nothing. Tried it for hours. Put the key in the on position and tried to straighten the wheel but it wouldn't turn, and I tried it one more time and it started right up. Parked it with a straight wheel, shut it off but it wouldn't turn over. Wiggled the wheel and it still wouldn't turn over. The ground at the back of the engine "Feels" tight but couldn't climb back there to check for sure. Anybody experience something like this?
Chevys have always had good engines except for diesels , but their electrical and modules have been made in the cheapest possible way in the darkest depths of China
2009 as well. TPMS was on and off for awhile, front left. Now it's permanently on, says service whole system. Got the recall for the airbag, now the air bag light is on and off. Some starts it won't but most, it says service air bag now. Brand new tires. Recalled airbag. Shouldn't be having problems 🤦🏻♂️
