After I replaced the battery to no avail and started searching on how to replace the starter, I found this vid. I applied the fix about a month and some change ago and haven't had the startup problem since. It literally took me more time to go to Auto Zone and make the purchase than it did to actually install it. Eight dollars. Thanks for the tip!!
If you are stranded, and have a pair of jumper cables, just do this with a pair of cables and get it started. Verified worked for me today. I will say I felt odd "jumping" myself. EXCELLENT VIDEO.
I had this same issue and seen the original guys video and did it that day. Fixed me up got $8.95 and a few mins work. Everything related to chassis electrical works better. Flip start satay engaged for a full second like it should. Thanks y’all
Our issues sound similar so I’m gonna give this a try today! Got stranded luckily I was close to home and it’s in a place where I know it won’t be towed praying this will be the fix I need. After this fix once taxes hit I’m selling it I’m done
This is exactly what I needed. I am still rocking this lifetime power train warranty on my 2009 Dodge Journey. Thank you for the video and helping me keep it a little longer😏
Dude! Came in so clutch with the lighting! Just watched Edward/ video and I gave it a like but it was hard to see visually…so you really came in clutch!
Nice! So I'm a gal with no mechanical knowledge for the most part. This is my moms car and every now and then weird issues. Car not starting randomly. And clock/radio not working sometimes. Etc. This last one was engine light came on. Decided to give this a try,...voila! No engine light. I'm am super excited that with your video I was able to do something, which is empowering. I will post here again to let you know if this fixed the other issues. THANKS for this video. All the mechanics have been of no help! 😂
Been having the same issues alot lately , got stranded twice! At this point its getting really frustrating having to deal with this because ive taken it to multiple shops and no one seems to find anything wrong with it, alternator is good starter is good & the battery is good. Going to give this a shot and hopefully it works! I’ll keep you guys updated. Thanks for the Video man!
in a pinch you saved the day . I used my jumper cables connected to engine and to firewall negative lighting bolt went away started up . removed cable off to a better day
l hoped this video would help people just as you commented here! Thank you for letting me know 😁👍 Glad this helped! FYI: where your positive battery cable leads into the fuse block under the hood, check for corrosion. That ended up being part of the problem I had with my car as well
I had the same problem. It wasn't starting at all and I left it at the parking lot. Went to Canadian Tire, bought a ground cable for 20 bucks, ratchet and sockets. After installing the new ground cable it just started right away. The old one was corroded. It saved me a lot of money considering the towing charges in Canada and I'm sure if I took to the mechanic they were going to charge me huge amount.
Glad to hear this helped. If the symptoms return. Check the positive cable that runs to the fuse block under the hood. I had some corrosion at that connected as well. 👍
I have a 2011 journey and i dont have a bracket like that to attach it to. Can I connect it to any screw and does it matter how long of a wire does it have to be a certain length away from the negative post cause I don't have very many options
I've been charging and jump starting my Dodge journey 2009 R/T 2.7L Petrol too many times, every 3-6 months I'd say, even with a new battery. Had just followed your fix (and checked Edward Lakatos video too). The only thing I find different in my car is I dont have that bolt with the little bracket @ 2:50, but got a similar one where the closest black bolt in your video was. Hooked the neg terminal to that one. Will see if I have the issue again
What issues were you having? Mine is cranking over but won't start. I'm finding it hard to find an answer from america as they don't have the 2.7 journey
I know this was a year ago, do you remember if your car worked still? I also didn’t have that bolt with the bracket… I’m slightly confused as to why not lol
What is that place called where you put the other end of the cable after connecting it to the negative piece… I have a 2010 2.4 L and I’m having trouble finding that “bracket” part your talking about…
It's just a bracket on the engine. You can place it on the engine transmission or to another spot on the body. I place mine on brace right in front of the air filter. It's a black bracket holding a little cylinder in place.
I just bought a 2010 Journey from a friend of mine and it actually runs but I’m going through it. I might just go ahead and do this anyway to save me any hassles down the road…it has almost 171,000 on it. So yea who knows what could happen.
Thank you for the info, save me a lot of money.... I have few questions, after for months, have you accounter, the same symptom again? What will you recommended to do next?
I would recommend checking all of your battery connections both positive and negative. Be sure they are all tight. Be sure all of your terminals are clean and free of corrosion. Also Check the age of your battery. See if it needs replacing. O’reillies and autozone will check your battery for ya if needed.
To answer your question, about a week ago I the symptoms returned. I replaced both battery cables and that fixed it again🙄 I will make Another video to show what I did to help
Actually I did encounter the problem about 6 months later after I posted the first video. I found where the positive battery cable goes into the fuse block under the hood had a faulty connection and had some corrosion on it.
@ZALESS yes I replaced all the battery cables/terminals and I haven’t had a problem since. I cut all the old cables open and they were all full of corrosion throughout most the cables
I wish there was a before you fixed it part so we could see if we have the same issue. I am sitting in a parking lot right now and I've waited 5 hours to road side assistance to tell me it isn't the battery. No dash lights come on but I can use my headlights, brake lights, interior lights, and even charge my phone just fine. The key fob doesn't lock, unlock, or even panic.
Hi All , I have the same issue in Dodge Journey 2009 , but i don’t have black bracket where I have to mount other terminal , I have checked several time , is there any other screw where I can mount other end ? Any help will be highly appreciated
Hi there my dodge will not start when u start it is it just a click because all my does is just click and that’s all no spark r nothing changed all the spark plugs and the some so I was wondering if yours turned over r just a click and nothing else no lights on anything like that
My 2012 Dodge journey exact same thing I've replaced the manifold the battery the alternator the freaking there's another piece under there that gets dirty that connects to something that I also replaced it's a large part anyways now when it's too cold my car won't start. After 2 days of trying to start it and making lots of noise but never turning over my engine light is now on and I'm pissed never mind the endless electrical sensory issues I've had with it for 2 years. They definitely didn't fix this model from 2009 to 2012 and from what I've seen on RU-vid not the 2016 either these vehicles have all the same problems as one another all stemming from electrical issues (sensors) draining batteries Etc 😠 wish I would have known before buying it and investing so much money fixing did I mention now my engine lights on
When it didnt start did it crank or just once or none? Cuz this may be cheaper then me just buying a new starter your feedback would most be appreciated plz and thank you?
Sometimes it would click just once or it would just keep turning over even after I removed the key which was bizarre.. I also replaced both battery cables with new ones because the old ones were deformed and “wiggly” looking which is a sign they are no good. When I bent them slightly, they would crunch which showed they were definitely bad.
I have a 2009 Dodge journey. Every now and then if I'm somewhere it won't crank up but it eventually does that's been going on for a while. Today when I went to leave it just cranked it didn't even turn over. Sorry I'm going to try this what I just saw on your video
Hey bud thanks for the vid i wish id seen this video before ...like you i also watched Edward but i went slightly different route . On mine i didnt put my connection on engine block instead went across the motor to passenger side strut and found another bolt and i used a 6 gauge... But still didnt solve my problem ...what can you tell me to better my situation
Just replace both battery cables completely, both of my old ones we are very worn out looking and looked almost wiggly shaped. If you slightly bend them, and they crunch, they are bad. When I get time, I will make Another video as this just recently happened
10 Doug I'm currently working on a 2010 Dodge journey and same problem click click click and we just replace the starter cuz somebody else said that it was the starter and it still clicks I'm going to try this and let you know how it goes my name is Dave
If that doesn’t work, also, follow the positive wire to the fuse block. I had another problem where the bolt that holds down that battery wire rattled loose randomly one day and it corroded. So double check that as well. Hope you get it home!
Went this morning. Took negative and negative on a pair of jumping cables, put it on the exact spots and voila. Started right up. Took it home, shut it down, waited tried to start it - same issue. Put on cables, started up. NICE video.
So I had the same problem come back as well. Open up the fuse block under the hood and check the positive terminal that leads to the fuse block. Mine was full of corrosion as well. Hope this helps. (When I get time I will make another video explaining)
I had the same problem on my journey 2010. A year ago i put the extra negative cable as it is shown in video. During a year, it was working great. But a week ago the problem returned. I stopped for a minute, turned off the engine and it did not start. (It started after about 30 minutes waiting). What u suggest? Change the cable one more time?
Just replaced my starter (it was toast.) I've had some of these issues. It's less than $20 for the cable and it can't possibly hurt. The cable will go on my car as soon as it gets here. 2010 Journey RT 3.5 AWD
That was 4 months ago man. I just found a black wire that would work on amazon. it's heavy gauge and has eyelets on both ends that you can run a bolt through. Should be easy to find.
@@skullmonkey17 I added the ground cable and it still wouldnt start. I did it in the parking lot where it is stranded though and didnt have the stuff on me to remove the tire to disconnect the battery. Still not working though. Turn the key, all the electrical components come up, I hear a single soft click, but nothing starts up.
@@michigan_joe be sure all your battery Connections are tight on the battery and clean of corrosion. Adding the second ground cable turned out to be a bandaid for the problem. There is also a positive battery cable that runs up under the fuse block that sits right on top of the battery that I found had come loose. It connects with a nut that you’ll see when you open the fuse block
If you Can get the steering to unlock, turn the wheels too hard right and you can still get to the access panel to check your battery connections to see if there’s corrosion corrosion
@@michigan_joe try to shift into neutral then start it. From what I've seen there is two different issues that happen related to starting. First one is the single click no start. Usually putting into neutral fixes that one. My issue is everything turns on but when I try to start the car, I don't even get a single click. Nothing happens at all and putting into neutral does not help it either.
