I would not have guessed this was a Schantz just from listening. Seems they’ve come a long way from the instruments that come to mind when I think of their tonal style. This seems a very versatile, thoughtful, and carefully voiced instrument in a very favorable room. The console is easy on the eyes too. Finally, it was so nice to see and hear an organist who understood the instrument and who could improvise well. Thank you for sharing this with us, Brett!
Andrew Schaeffer is probably (one of) the best player OMF uses for these demonstrations!! Articulate, always well dressed and plays well!! He chooses good musical examples to demonstrate the various ranks.👌😊‼️
Another great video. Even St. Jude in the stained glass window was moving with the music. 🤣 I thought Dolcans were reversed tapered like a tuba. Thanks. I really look forward to these each week. 🙂
So varied and yet cohesive; thanks for showcasing this fine instrument. And a terrific demonstration too - Andrew Schaeffer really understands registration and explains it clearly.
A beautiful instrument that really works with the acoustic. As always, impeccable commentary. Particularly liked the rendition of "Dies Irae" at 19'25... perhaps Dr Schaeffer is a Kubrick fan?! Thanks Brent and team for all of these videos.
Schantz makes such a wonderful instrument. You don't really seem to see a lot of them in the wild, but when you find one, they sure are nice. There is 47 rank Schantz at a church in the town I'm from and it's just as wonderful as the one featured in this video. It doesn't have quite as many colors to choose from as this organ, but it has a wonderful Viole de Gambe & Voix Celeste in the Swell and a very nice Erzahler & Celeste in the Choir. My favorite rank on the organ may be its Krummhorn though!
Nice sound. I know of other Schantz organs with great sound. Like all organ makers there’s a spectrum of instruments. Some people are critical of Schantz, but I know several outstanding installations. This one seems to sing well.
Would appreciate it if you could take your time a bit more in the organ chambers, particularly with the panning. The framerate makes things a bit blurry :)
APOBA is a patriarchal club that no longer follows the charter they began with, which was to help source materials for the trade. Today they are only useful to provide mediocre advertising while posturing that APOBA members are "the best" in the industry, even though it isn't true.
That choir div is a-very-nice. Perfect trim rate, beautiful strings. Impressive reeds. Very appealing and adequate demo. And that’s just the Choir! But i’ll stop here. Afore-mentioned Comments applicable to the whole organ.
Are you sure the Dolcan are straight pipes? A Dolcan should be flared a minimum of 4 notes, as in taper outwards from mouth to top. Jeff, if you see this maybe you can comment. Dolcan- flared Dulciana- straight Dolce- Conical
Love the Swell chorus!!! Lots of interesting and useful colors. Great 8&4 are a little odd Muddy in the bass and loud in treble and all the stopped 8' Flutes are kind of chirpy and clicky that said a very flexible instrument
