David, as usual, excellent video. 14 oz batch of roasted beans in 20 minutes with no cool down between roasts is appealing. There will be a learning curve for me but that's ok. Thank you!
David, do you know how to push the development % beyond the limits set on each profile? I"m trying to do a darker style roast and want to push it past 26% - any ideas?
I'm actually in the process of working with Nucleus to develop some ready to use profiles with more range! We're testing through them over the next few weeks, hopefully they'll be released early next month. We love the enthusiasm and inventiveness of LINK users! However, as a policy we don't recommend ever roasting above 100g with the LINK - it was designed as a professional sample roaster for 50g-100g, and using any batch size outside of this will make the profile recommendations inaccurate. If we ever work on a larger model, The Captain's Coffee community will be the first to know!
You all have done an incredible job with the Link System, thanks a ton for clarifying! We absolutely agree that sticking with the recommended 50 to 100g batch size is the surefire way to ensure you get the most accurate results from the Link.

Just bought a Link from you today and still need to update and calibrate, and beans arrive tomorrow. I want to update some files to do 200gm batches, but have a problem clearly hearing the video. Is it possible to get a text/pdf file highlighted lines you modified or post/share. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I'm interested in the link as a home coffee roaster and my only issue is the batch size I recently asked Nucleus about increasing the batch size to 200g and they said it is not recommended because in their extensive testing they found it will produce uneven and inconsistent batches. So I wanted to ask you if you have experienced any of that?

Great video, I’m sure that Link users will appreciate it. I own the Kaffelogic with the Boost, which is a bit easier to use as it has a physical extension that helps accommodate more beans. I don’t really see the point in getting the Link at almost double the price. Both units are exactly the same, with just a few software improvements on the Link. Converting profiles from the Link to the Kaffelogic can be done quickly, but again, why would you do that when there are so many excellent third-party profiles created by the community?
Yeah from what I can tell the 2 roasters have similar capabilities mechanically, what I prefer about the Link is it's app+density tube profiling system which takes all the guess work out of trying new coffees and new roast methods. The only thing it lacked out of the box was 200 gram profiles, so this conversion was a high priority for me! I'm a little confused by your pricing though, the Nano+boost is $1470 in the US and the link is $1850, definitely not double. Maybe it's a bigger spread in other locations though!
From all of my research, I think the software improvements on the link are huge and well worth the additional price. Part of that extra price goes to paying for the case that it comes in, which is nice, but not a necessity for me - I kinda wish I could buy it without the case.
@@LivingTheLifeRetired I asked if they'd be willing to offer a version without the case (I had the same thought as you - a good half of home users probably have no need of the case), but they aren't interested in doing that at this time. Maybe they will eventually!

Yes there certainly are some big changes! So far in my testing by and large this method still works, though I'd advise chucking any old 200g profiles and starting fresh based off the new Addis ones. Also I noticed there's a small bug right now (that hopefully will be patched out soon) that causes the profile to ignore where you marked 1C for dev% if you mark it after the "expected" 1C zone. I mention this because I noticed it when testing 200g conversions and thought it was the conversion - but it happens on 100g NCT profiles as well.
@@TheCaptainsCoffee i see, because the new profile came with the new fan settings as well, there is one more point on fan profiling, I am not sure should I still follow your fan profiling?
@@JonathanOng-l7y I haven't experimented with converting all the new fan profiles like the Filter D pack yet, so I don't know how they will perform and I don't have any guidance there yet. The ones that use the old fan profile like Filter C and Filter B there should be no change.
Would buying a link with the boost from kaffelogic be an option? Seeing as boost is first and foremost a hardware extension would that be possible to add this to a link and get the bigger batch size a bit better under control?
You know, I don't know! From what I understand of the boost, it's meant to do 2 things: physically extend the chamber to make unloading easier and it comes with a serial # to unlock kaffelogic's 200g profiles in their software. So it won't do the later with the Link software, but I assume it fits the same and would help with unloading on the Link! Maybe one day I'll pick one up and find out
@@TheCaptainsCoffee if you happen to also have a kaffelogic on hand please measure the height of the 2 and compare. In another video from someone else I think I heard mention the Link comes with the boost preinstalled to the chamber, but information seems scarse
The Boost Kit isn't compatible with the LINK, no. It physically fits, but as our profiling system is entirely different you won't yield positive results in your roasts from using it. If you want to roast more than 100g, a Nano e7 is a better choice for you
@@NucleusCoffeeToolsTraining but this whole video centers around the premise to make roasting 200g with the link a possibility. If it physically fits and you follow the guide that captain has put forth in this video you don't rely on the built in profiles but rather craft one of your own.
