I took my keys in without knowing this was the fix to the recall. When I got my keys without the blade in the FOB and a separate key attached to my FOB, I made them switch it back. Waste of time but glad I wasn't stuck with the horrible solution GM came up with

MAYBE YOU SHOULD PROVIDE A DIFFERENT NEW KEY FOB AND KEY INSTEAD OF PATCHING A PROBLEM. YOU WANT TO GER RID OF THE KEY ON THE FOB? FINE THEN JUST GIVE ME A FOB THAT DOESN'T LEAVE A TRENCH ON THE KEY FOB!!!

I have a 2013 Camaro, and they performed this recall on my car a few years ago. It would have been nice if someone had explained I could not out.

This was a bullshit recall. 1 tall guy hit his keys and shut his Camaro off. GM is just in the spotlight right now, any little thing is being recalled.

Same issue with the 2015 key is already cut off still happens. CHEVY ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!

UGH. I wish Reliable Chevy in Dallas had told me that. I was given no option when I took mine in. Pisses me off extra because I am 5'2" and there is not a chance in hell of my knee hitting the key in the ignition while driving.

They gave me both. Now the one that was in the key faub is stuck in my ignition. FML!!! This is the first I've seen of this and I own a 2012 and purchased it in Sept 2017

How stupid can chevrolet get. First the forced shift to fourth from first and now the key fob recall. Get a focus group together to determine what your customers want. I am amazed that the very people that should know cars are not car guys.

That is a terrible fix. I had my key repaired on my 07 Cadillac and the insert is popping out not even a year after getting it repaired. I have completely lost faith in GM. Never again

Steve Lee . solution is to cut away plastic from key and put it back in the fob with a pen.

So basically, you’re supposed to turn in your original flip keys, and they give you a weird, old-style key, AND remove the blade from your original key fob, and you have to carry that plus the bow-broken key fob??

Camaro buyers seem entranced by the switch blade key fob. Perhaps GM could move the ingition on the steering column higher so this knee to key contact wouldn't happen and Camaro owners would be all happy again.

My problem with them doing the recall is that they butcher the key fob and then give it back to you, if they'd come up with a better solution I'd have no problem making the switch.

Hey everyone, quick question. I've got a 2017 camaro ZL1 and the valet mode on this car turned down the power on my '15 SRT challenger, it turned the power way down, starts in 2nd gear and limits rpm to 4000 and was hoping someone out there knew if Chevy had software or how to use the power reduction. It was a handful at 650hp but mine now puts out 730hp+ and a valet would destroy the car or crash it if he lost control. Hell, it still scares me. Please advise asap, thank you.

I had to get new key fob for my 2010 camaro ss and did the old key just turned it on not started it waited 10 mins then tried to stick key on key fob and just turn on the key would not unlocked or anything what do I do help plz

Thank you so much for posting this. I had no idea that's how they 'fixed' the key. The dealer keeps harassing me to get the key for my G8 fixed and I keep telling them I do not want it done. It is a stupid recall anyway. I am 6ft and my knee never hits my key and I also don't hang 5 lbs of crap on my key ring either. It is the most bogus recall anyway. My wife's Jetta has an identical key but there is no recall for hers. Makes no sense there is one for my G8.

I just bought a 2014 Camaro. When I test drove the car, the switchblade was on. When the car was prepped, they gave me the new solution, the crappy key. Is there anyway I can get a reversal and get the switchblade back?? HELP!

I have a 2010 Camaro SS & get these silly recall notices all the time. The fix is really a bandage & doesn’t address the real ignition switch issue. Anyway I have not have my key fob altered as my knees are mot near the ignition.

why would anyone have to sign the form? Wouldnt the letter GM will send to owners be due notification. You cant just do it without the owner consent when they come in for service.

I got a 2013 camaro ss so I was going with my mom to turn it on because it was getting dirty so we were taking it to the car wash the key didn’t start with the double press of the lock button and old of the restart button thingy so I turned it on with key and I leave my key in the ignition then I get out close the door and I see that the car locked itself and the key is in the ignition and the car is turned on does anyone know how to fix that

I knew a guy who died because the key turned off the car while they were on the highway on the way back from a ski trip. He was a taller than average 20 year old guy. 4 people were in the car..

That is just dumb. You buy a sporty car with a sporty key fob and because its cheap to fix a problem this way you have to opt out? Not impressed with it Mr Chevy Dealer. But I bet you did great in the CYA class at Chevrolet!

Just got a new Camaro.. I tried to complain about this very thing!! They told me tough s**t, get used to it. I asked could I please get it the old way, no dice. I even asked, could I bring in a blank and they cut it, they said again, sorry not going to happen. So for all new owners going forward, you will have to get your keys this way. No other options! I'm currently trying to figure out how to get mine "fixed"...

Hello, everybody I have a 2011 chevy camaro and it is showing the airbag red light in the dash and the horn is not working either, any suggestions on this, I removed the airbag trying to fix a squeaky noise coming out of the steering wheel and after I put everything back on, I noticed the horn not working and the airbag light, Help me out please

It's not just the key fob its the ignition switch they have to fix it. Luckily I was in a parking lot when I hit my knee on the key fob and it locked up my wheel and stopped my acceleration. I couldn't imagine that happening on the highway I'd be in a accident. I brought mines in for the recall. I decided to keep the original key fob but take my other keys off that way I don't hit it.

It's all about avoiding the negative pr if they don't do something, plus that old style key is much more, less expensive. Money is the issue when you're giving it back your loyal customers.

Hey Chevy dude. Everyone tells me my camaro fob is not waterproof, yet it went through full wash cycle in work pants pocket & it works just as it did before?

It’s not waterproof. However if the key fob is not pushing a current through it then it can’t dry it. Before phones were water tight they would only fry because an electric current would fry the board when the phone was powered on and not off. (Once it dried out)

Well most dealers just do it without asking... Mine did on an air bag recall... I hated it... Phob looks like crap. I demanded that they re-installed the original key. They said they werent allowed. I tried to make it happen and it wouldnt Even before going in.... Didnt know that they were going to do that.

Matthew Wilson Exactly. This crap started when someone supposedly hit the FOB with their knee. Perhaps he was 7' tall. I bought my 2014 Camaro during the recall. Luckily, they gave me the new key while I retained the original FOB.
