Just my $0.02 - I think it's a good idea to put ~1Qt of oil into the oil filter housing to help prevent a dry start when you first start the vehicle. When you pour engine oil in an empty engine it goes to the same place you extracted it (the sump)...the first few seconds the oil pressure is building and bringing oil to the topside, which will likely be very dry. My thoughts are it's easy to do and it might help prevent unnecessary engine wear - so why not? GREAT VIDEO

Hi. I see this video is few years old but its even better for my question.. How is that AMSOIL working for you? I have just did my first (first by myself I mean) oil change in my 2013 RRS SC using AMSOIL 5W20 SS series oil. I drained it VIA the plug though. I dont have a pump and I was replacing active sway bar bushings so armor was off anyway...

On the oil level is that gauge showing it a quart low from top to bottom or is half way half of the 8 quarts ?

Great video. But 8.5 quarts ? Mines a 12 book says 8. I put in 8 and still get a service engine warning and my Guage says over filled. I had to extract a half quart. And then in the oil filter housing there's quite a bit left I try to suck out and wipe it clean. Next time I'm pulling the drain plug also to see what else comes out. Cheers

Does that method extract all of the oil? I've seen setups where you use a vacuum tube which you insert into the stainless tube that you connected to. Then you push the vacuum tube all the way down into the oil pan.

Thanks! I get Amsoil directly from their website. OEM parts from Atlantic British and Amazon if it's cheaper. I also check out ebay for certain OEM parts. There are dealers on ebay that sells genuine oem parts at a decent price.

smhri there is but the oil pan is behind a 30 lb skid plate that u have to take off to access the drain bolt. i guess certain ppl prefer not to do that cuz if that thing falls on ur face it could really flatten it

I have an IIDTool device that I use for resetting. Read some of the old comments on here, someone mentioned a while back on how they reset it without an external device.

Yes, you can do it from the bottom drain.

Steven Jivapongse do you know how much spark plug replacement cost? It’s pretty complicated on the 5.0 2011 Range Rover. I did it my self. Just don’t have a clue what The dealer charges.

I don't believe you can do it without taking it to the dealer or use a special tool. I use an IIDTool.

Technical Mechanical Thanks for the timely reply. I ended up pressing start ignition to position 1(without foot on brake), opened hood latch, opened driver door, held brake and accelerator simultaneously to the floor for 10 seconds, released pedals, pressed ignition to shut off lights. Then exited car, closed hood and started car as normal and the light reset.

I noticed you poured the old oil out. Instead you could have just pumped it out by putting the vacuum unit in reverse mode ! Much easier to do it this way .

That's a great suggestion! I did think of that but was a little worried about making a mess when I have to switch over to a second container to hold all the used oil. Let me know if you know of a way to quickly stop the pumping.

There is a bulb-shapped mechanism on top of the unit, when lifted up it will depressurize the tank.

Why are you not putting in 8.5 qts when it calls for that amount?

Great question! I mentioned close to 8.5 quarts because the capacity is 8.0 Liters which is 8.45 Quarts. At that amount the oil level is at the max. If you shoot for 8.5 and go over slightly, you might overfill, especially if you didn't fully extract all the oil out.

+Marcin Apostol I use the Gap IIDTool. I believe for the 2013 USA model you need a similar tool or have to let the dealer reset it.

I believe these are standard/general warnings since I had the door open, ignition on (but engine off), etc. They went away after I start the engine.

Over 8 liters were pumped out ! But the 5.0 V8 should take only 7.8 liters ..... Unless this is a different engine 🤭

The standard oil change quantity for 2011 and onward N America market is 8 Liters. Yes, the dealership may have overfilled it a tiny bit when they last changed it. Mine has very low miles.
