Thanks Bob. As a pro, I work on a million different models and can never remember where the fasteners are on specific models. You saved me time relearning this.
My actuator failed...took it to the shop...cost me an arm and a leg. After watching this clip...I feel confident of opening my Lexus door panel and replace the actuator myself...Thank you!!
Thank you for taking the time to explain this so well! Had to replace my side mirror and wouldn’t have been able to without your video. Very clear and concise.
Bro, thanks so much for this step by step video. I had to replace the passenger side mirror and would've never figured out how to remove the panel without your video. I was able to do it all in less than 30 mins thanks to your video. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching Trancealot, i do have a video for removing your mirror if u ever get to that point. Happy holidays. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-klhRxLoulNA.html
Tip, when you're going to pull the window switch motors, get the pry tool way under the plastic before you start prying up. I chipped the wood on both of mine because I didn't do that. And also, buy that little tool to pull those white tabs out of the door.
Bob you are a natural at removing all panels, I've never seen anyone remove panels with ease like you... Holy crap you're awesome! I'm always scared when it comes to vehicle panel removal because I know I'm gonna damage those suckers... You make it look simple af!
@@GXBOBwell you're a pro man and I have a feeling that when a panel sees you coming, it's oh shit it's Bob, we're doomed, and they kneel ... they see me coming and it's, lets f*k with this rookie.... I aspire to be as good as you but you make it look so damn easy! I'll get some practice installing your dash cam mod, I have it on order!
Thanks so much for this video, Bob. I’ve got a 6-month old GX that I had the windows tinted all the way around, including the windshield (the windshield “tint” is clear though). It’s pretty much a requirement here in Texas. Apparently it was too much trouble for the shop that did the tint to replace the door panels properly, because now I have 2 doors panels half-assedly installed. (I didn’t even know they needed to be removed to tint the windows?) This video is a huge help to ensure I don’t F-up my nearly new door panels reinstalling them properly. Thanks again sir. 🙏🏻
@@drw1926 Yeah, our upper door trims common to the windows are made of felt material. In order for the tint to come out clean and not lift in the future, the tint line needed to be cut below the upper door trim. It also ensures you don’t see a line of light coming through at the bottom. Glad you found the vid helpful.
Special message for GX*BOB **** Due to a recent request for drivers door panel removal instructions we have found information about you listed in the American Heritage Dictionary and I quote, a hero is described as a person noted for special achievement in a particular field : synonym "celebrity" . Lexus really has awesome engineering quality and with your help my door issue will be resolved - THANK YOU !
thx B....thx to you i was able to put sound dampening material in all 4 doors...lots of awesome helpful tricks....one thing...on the clips ...if you don't have that harbor freight tool...I found that you can pinch behind (inside of door) the clip and pull at same time and they come out.
Do the dash speakers and the center channel with 3.5 speakers. I did on mine with Hifonics 3.5 speakers and Red Wolf speaker harnesses. All plug and play, zero modification on the car
Bob, thanks for this video. I've used this tutorial to replaced my front door speakers. I've also replaced the three dash speakers. Now it sounds more awesomer.
Hey Bob, I recently had water leakage from the sunroof and it trickled down my Left (driver side) A-pillars, which soaked the left panel by the tweeter. Are there important structures back there that could be damaged due to water exposure?
You are a GENIUS!!! Loved the video. Can you do one for the outside trim called the Belt Molding? Show us how to replace the driver side Belt Molding!!. THAK IN ADVANCE!!!
Thanks for the video as always. I have been looking to see if you have a video on how to remove and replace rear side door handle. Looks like a lengthy job.. thanks Bob!
@@berniepenados2105 i just completed it. It takes some time to do some editing work , but should be posted shortly. There are definitely some tricks to it.
You're the best! .... today I replaced the drivers side mirror assy on my 2011 because the folding motor crapped out... probably from carwash or me hitting it on my carport column one too many times over the last 10 years. Mirror assy comes w/o the paint color cover and your mirror repl video was helpful there too! Also appreciate your TPMS video and ordered the extender for my spare tire. I've check my spare tire like two times in 10+ yrs and that's where my problem is too. Thankfully I've never had the 400lb wife problem you had.... and please no video on that please. ugh!
Thanks for the insightful comment, much appreciated. I really didn't think the channel would get this far but now i realized there are so many GX folks out there trying to look for content on a truck that is finally gaining popularity. Happy New Year Mb.
Hey BOB all of your videos have been awesome for me so far so thank you for that! I would like to request a video of you accessing one of the subwoofers in the rear of the GX where the third row is. My speaker has been out on mine for 4 months, but I cannot find a video on how to repair properly. Thanks!
Hey Shelby. I don't have a video specifically on the subwoofer, but I do have one on the removal of the 3rd-row seats which gains you access to the 3rd-row side panels that cover your subwoofers. If you're going to go thru all that trouble, you might as well upgrade your subwoofers while you're at it.
Hey Juan, most likely it won't happen unless my window motors go out which is also unlikely since my truck is only 5 years old. But if i get started right now by using my power windows every 5 minutes for 24 hours straight, this video might happen sooner than later.
Bob your videos are so very helpful. I have a 2023 Blackline. I did all the light recommendations per your videos. I have added a hitch and now the front doors have sound deadening, your video made it so easy. I did one back door and the when I put the shell back on and went to align the shell to the metal clips the outer clip near the small window the plastic snapped, the bottom portion snapped. As such 3 out of 4 are in place. I say all that to say this, should I try to take that part off the shell and try to replace it or not worry about it? Your thoughts. It is your video at 10:04. Thank you for your time.
@@GXBOB Thanks for your reply. It appears to have no vibrations and seems pretty secure. I can't wiggle or move it. It was just the bottom aspect of the plastic snapped off so it still lines up. Thanks for the reassurance and again thank you for replying.
Excellent videos. Do you have a video on replacing the exterior window trim and where I can buy the parts. When it rains the rubber does not squeegee the water off the window anymore.
Your best bet is looking for totaled GX’s that are parting out. I’ve seen them on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist . My video on door handle removal goes into removing the window trim.
Very helpful instructions Bob. Thanks. What’s your next instructional vlog? Probably removal of the cup holder next on the driver seat. You’ll probably marvel why I mentioned it. I just happened to place my ID on the container flat on top with a bunch of receipts. When I was about to show my ID to get inside the military post the ID was missing, it slid into the slot and couldn’t get it out, plus I couldn’t get the cover all the way up ‘coz the ID is stuck behind it. Just a suggestion on your next vid.
@@marcelocayetano5951 Of course Marcelo, that one is my next one as I am installing blue LED alarm blinking lights in that center console. I'm trying to find the time to begin that one.
Had a question about the exterior part of the door. How is the moulding on the bottom part of the door attached? Is it just double sidded tape or is it fastened with a tab like the one in the bottom of that interior panel? When you were in there did you ever see anything poking through the sheet metal to the inside? I want to take the exterior trim off to have a cleaner look but I don't know if there's a hole behind it. Not a lot of info out there. Thanks for the great videos Bob!
Good looking out man! Taught me everything i needed to know to fix my mother in laws window, cracked me up every time you said next times next thoo lol
Glad to help Colin! I'd get in front of the preventative maintenance too since u told me your GX window already needs fixin'. Tells me your car has reached a certain age where more stuff will eventually fail.
Thanks for these useful videos. I know this lexus model doesn't come with heated seats, how hard is it to install and will you comsider installing them. Also this gx460 model was excluded from the car play upgrade in the dealership do you have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
Hi. My base model actually came with heated seats. Plus California doesn't get cold enough to consider that luxury option. What car play are you referring to?
Thanks for the great video Bob. I see that pulling out a window switch is not that difficult. I need to replace it on my GX. Do you know if it will need any dealer involvement in terms of programming it if I buy one from Ebay and do it myself? TIA
A master window switch is plug and play. There are plenty of aftermarket ones on ebay that work fine. I bought one on ebay that was Chinese made for my 2008 back in the days and it never failed after 2 years. If you buy just the switch console itself you'll pay $50, but if you purchase the entire switch with the wood trim than you're looking at $150 and up. Just buy the switch console held it with a couple of screws and reuse your original wood trim panel that surrounds your switch.
Hello, do I have to take off the whole door panel just to thoroughly clean the inside pocket? Or does the pocket snap off without having completely remove the door panel? Thanks again
Thanks for this, a squeaking sound is bugging me whenever I open the door. Anyways, I'm trying to remove the dome light console (the whole thing) so I can hide the 12V to 5V power converter for my dash cam. I managed to remove the console partly, but something seems stuck. Is it possible to make a video about that? Btw, I changed all my interior lights because of you. Thanks again!
@@GXBOB thanks, much appreciated. I always get notifications whenever you upload a video so I'll not miss that one. Needless to say I watch all of your vids and I learn a lot from you. Thanks again!
The 470 and 460 are different in design but the removal and install concepts are basically the same. In the 470, you're going to have a screw underneath the power window module and one underneath the armrest. The door lights are also in different places but there are no screws behind them. Once you remove the screw behind the interior door handle, behind the armrest, and underneath the power window module, start pulling the entire door panel off slowly and see what else is holding it in. Its all pretty much plastic knobs holding the panel in from this point.
Thanks again. Just need to find time now to do the job. Did this on a 02 SC430 and the sound is now amazing. My son has a LS430 with two blown speakers. He needs to do the same fix. One of the few chronic issues with these great cars. We love our Toyota V8’s!
They were blown when we got the car. Same with the SC. The rubber speaker gasket crumbles over time, especially if the car is stored in dampness, I.E. not in a dry garage. Some other gangster might have blown them. The ML system needs some volume to sound best, but not a crazy amount. The 04 GX has two blown ML speakers also from a elderly lady who had it before us. I agree, no trashy music in these. Have to respect the craftsman who carefully made them. Lexus should have in their contract a clause that allows them to be confiscated for abuse. Maybe some kind of strict qualification application before you are even allowed to buy these cars in the first place, like when you are allowed to adopt a child. Need new drivers seat leather for 03 LS 430 and a 95 LS400. Any reasonable cost ideas? The 95 is a dream. It’s my older sons baby. We have had it 5 years, paid $3000. It’s been on two 1500 mile trips and coast to coast twice. Would drive it cross country today without considering weather it would have any problems. It has been commuting 120 miles a day lately, but is going back into storage for four months…I’m going to be sad when the electrics make all of these obsolete.
@@cblankenship3018 The electrics will never replace our gas guzzlers as long as Republicans are in office. Your post reminds me of my 1997 Lexus SC400. Man i loved that car. Way ahead of its time with style.
Bob what is the name of that black peace you took off before assembling the door. I have to replace mine and my search did the lead me to a name or a part number please help brother.
5:45 ,6:01( long black pice that u take of the door panel -weather strip with rubber and soft inner is a windows belt strip of some kind ) when I look at Lexus parts and stuff there is so many windows/door components can’t pinpoint the right part number
Hey Bob, at 6:10-6:50. What is the piece called that you’re describing? My passenger front and back windows are pulling that down when I roll the windows down and when i roll windows up it’s leaving really bad streaking. If you have a link or instructions how to replace it I would be very grateful! Thanks!
Hi Josh! They are interior door window trims. They're falling off because the clips that hold them down have come loose over time. You can remove them and use a pair of pliers to bend the clips back in place or just hit your local dealer for a set of new ones. After you install them, make sure to lube your rubber window tracks. Anything that will go in contact with your window (the rubbers that form the frame) should be lubed. Here is a link: www.amazon.com/3-ONE-Care-Rubber-Conditioner/dp/B071QZH2R8/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=silicone+lubricant+for+car+windows&qid=1632321241&sr=8-3
Hi Bob, really excellent videos. Especially the power steering and differential fluid change. Question I have, is do I need to replace the exterior window trim because it does not wipe away the water from the window anymore when you roll the window up and down. Do I need to replace the trim or just lube the rubber. Also do they sell the trim on Amazon. Could not find it on Amazon one ebay. Thanks for everything.
@@GXBOB So yours was fairly loose? Did you have to use tools originally or do you just have super-strong hands??? That trim almost doubles my time on the door job….ugggh! ( And thanks for the quick response! Great vids!)

i have no idea how i missed this comment. Sorry about that Lucky bastard. To be fair, i have a video on how to remove the rear quarter panel. After you follow those instructions, the top half of the panel pretty much pops off and falls off. You should be able to pull the rear headliner down from there.
