That 3.6L V6 has been modified. The hp is from 280 to 307.

No, I disagree. I own a 2011 Buick now, and I love it. It's my first Buick, and I did own an '86 Trans Am once, and there will never be anything like that again. But it's 2013, not 1986, and GM looked at this from a financial angle. Buick had been around since 1899, had the most potential to be profitable because it was global, Pontiac was NOT global, then GM said "hey, this is business, not pleasure" and kept the money maker. Sad for Pontiac, yea, but they weren't bringing the bucks like Buick.

Whoah.. the LaCrosse has the better power to weight ratio... about 8%. The Verano comes in at 18.33, while I'm on the website. 3300lbs, 180hp. Rumor has it that the Verano is going to get a turbo this fall as a 2013 model. You know... these new Buicks are really cool. Super practical, peppy, and good looking, yet modest.

I think you're missing the point though. Buick's problem in the late 90s to late 2000s was that they WERE only focusing on this market, and this market was dying (both in terms of people no longer wanting columns shifts land yachts as well as the 80 somethings driving them). They were disappearing and so was Buick, so they looked at where it was doing well, China, modeled their demographic, 30-60 yo affluent professionals, i.e..Acura and Lexus buyers, and started that trend here.

@kimchi1977 this is also an insignia, but the platform has been extended. the regal hasn't been changed.

280hp... That's not bad.... I might spring for the Regal GS though....
@jmoneymaker96
@jmoneymaker96 12 лет назад
For the regal 3710 lbs for the GS divided by 270 horsepower is about 13.74lbs per horepower The Lacrosse is 3835lbs divided by 303 horsepower which is about 12.66 lbs per horsepower, so The regal has a better power to weight ratio. As of my choice I'd still choose the Lacrosse cuz its nicer.

Japanese cars aren't Japanese, etc. etc. When it comes down to it, the profits of an American car go to America (taxes. . . ) while the purchase of a Toyota goes to Japan.
@jmoneymaker96

Wow 6.7 seconds mototrtrend said 7.5 seconds. I would want to know what the new 303 horsepower V6 would be 0-60!
@socalguy97
@socalguy97 11 лет назад
Yes, and it works. It's what people want. Not everyone can afford a Mercedes or a BMW, and not everyone wants a Chevy or Nissan. That's why entry-luxury is the largest segment. So yes, you're right. It means taking an average car and stuffing it with woodgrain and leather and some tech stuff....it works. Its sells. Remember. Market. Profit. Where do the two come together? Buick capitalized on that segment where most people buy.

the 2012 lacrosse now has 303 horsepower in the 3.6L V6 so even a little better. :)

Railroad tracks, potholes, grooved pavement?? Seriously? My 2011 CXL rides nowhere like that. They must have switched out the suspension with something else while I wasnt looking.

Bailed them out to increase profitability and it worked. If it didn't work, then (did you know) they were next on the chopping block? At first it was Pontiac or Buick. Then it came down to "ok, Pontiac is gone, we're putting the money into Buick, what do we do if that doesn't work...kill them off." Well that was back in 2010, and the profits have been nothing but up. It's business. And if we didn't have to deal with the important influx that started in the 80's, this would be a non-issue.
@socalguy97
@socalguy97 11 лет назад
You're sadly mistaken. Don't get me wrong, I loved Pontiac, too, but the G8, wasn't supposed to "own" this car. And if Buick is a joke, well then they're not on the receiving end of it--their sales are beating Lexus and Acura (Google that and find it anywhere). I'd rather have seen Pontiac survive than Chevy, but don't knock Buick--a company that has 109 years of history, famed muscle cars like the GNX and GS, turbo and supercharging technology firsts, and historically upscale designs.

I don't quite understand the last sentence in your reply, but I disagree with you on building a car for old people. I'm 34, and I'm fine with mine. My doctor is 31, and he has the identical car (to me). My neighbor is 38, and he and his wife (he's an attorney she's an interior designer) have the new Lacrosse. A colleague of mine is 44 and owns the Enclave. So my question to you in "what is old?" Me? My neighbors? My doctor? Anyone over 30? Buick's average age now is down to 53. Google it.

I get your anger, but don't you think you should do some research on this stuff before saying "they're not successful" "they need to focus on this market" "their products are inferior?" Because I'm afraid you're patently wrong. And on the Cadillac note, Buick doesn't want their prestige. Their goal, their total target, has shifted to filling the entry-luxury slot (Acura and Lexus land). Pontiac was performance; Chevy is everyday transpo, trucks, performance. Pontiac was overfilling the segment.

oops i ment to say the lacrosse cuz its less weight per horsepower my bad.
@socalguy97
@socalguy97 11 лет назад
And it must be working for them, and their products must be superior because they ARE outselling that competition. They'd still be dragging in sales if they were inferior (like they used to be). At the end of the day, if profitability isn't what matters, then I don't know what is, because automakers are here to make profit, not novelty items. Buick has filled the American market's need for entry-luxury, and Pontiac wasn't meant for that. Look at Mercury. They tried staying the course and lost.
@socalguy97
@socalguy97 11 лет назад
Killing Pontiac was sad, but hey--if they were supposed to be around (i.e. they were profitable or had the same potential as Buick as a global brand), they'd still be here.

Not that it would make any difference, especially since you're one person, but have you thought about sharing your ideas here with GM since it bothers you so much? Tell them you want Pontiac back. Explain to them why. Get a petition going with your Pontiac friends and see how many will sign. Send it worldwide. Gather signatures. Send to GM. Their question back to you is going to be "how many of you WILL be buying?" Enough to make up for lost profit?" I'm serious. You should at least try it.

I hate to say it, because it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but China (and Japan and Germany) have EVERYTHING to do with the market here. OUR OWN people stopped liking OUR OWN cars as of about the 80's, and God only knows why, because like you, I hate Japanese, Chinese, Korean imports (not even all that crazy about German imports), but that IS our market now whether we like it or not. Yes, Buick sold out and went that direction, but if they hadn't, they'd be 6 feet under like Mercury and Olds.
@kimchi1977

Chinese designed by GM China. It looks good because Americans didn't design it. Its about time Buick got some fresh design ideas from GM's global design network.
@socalguy97
@socalguy97 11 лет назад
And you really have this all wrong, and I'm certain most people would agree that you do. U.S sales--on the rise. lol. They're selling lol. People are buying. lol. Google it. And worried about China? Why would they have to? Much of Buick's market is there and it's making them money? They made more money in sales than Pontiac (I'm sorry, but if they didn't, then Buick would've died, not Pontiac). At the end of the day it's all about profit, not about what you, one person, loves and misses. Sorry.
