How to change the oil and filter on a 2010 BMW F650GS Twin. Tools required: 24 mm Socket Ratchet Torque Wrench Filter Wrench Funnel Oil Drain Pan New Crush Washer New Oil (3 Qts 10W-40) New Oil Filter (Mahle OC 619) Rags for clean up
Hello Narciso sd, you are correct. The manual recommends a center stand, and not to screw in the dipstick when checking the oil level. While we are at it, it's also worth mentioning, it's important to allow the engine to adequately warm up, you should wait until the fan turns on, before considering the engine fully up to nominal temp. I have still not purchased a center stand, so in my case, I made the effort to ensure the bike was as flat as possible, I probably could have put a small shim under the side stand just to be even more correct. If you do this, be very careful, the last thing you need is a bike falling the other direction, so it's a trade off. I elected to slightly overfill, so that this would slightly compensate for the bike not being on a center stand, and it should have also helped with my erroneous practice of screwing in the dipstick. Next oil change, I'll skip the screwing in of the dipstick. Thanks for the reference back to the manual. Luckily, at the end of the day, the tolerance for ideal oil fill is not incredibly precise, there is a band of adequate fill, which allows us to not be perfect.
@@SebastianOats The manual says 2.9L with filter change for this motor year which is more than 3 US Quarts, so you didn't overfill it, just read it wrong.
Nice video, I change oil exactly as you showed it here. Oil capacity on this model when replacing filter is 2.9 liters, I may recommend semi synthetic oil, I have used Motul 5100 15w50 for last three years without issues. I own same model bike but year 2009. It is always good to refresh knowledge since need to make oil change on April. Thanks for sharing!
Hello Rafael, thanks for watching and for sharing the additional info. If you think of any other helpful ideas please feel free to let me know. Much appreciated...it's almost bike season in Michigan.
I think it’s the heating up that distributes some of the old oil to lube the engine and then you don’t get all of the old oil out. Maybe that’s why you had the problem.
Hi, have you changed the fork oil on this model. I have the same one but I can't figure out what the exact amount of oil is. 550mm or 600mm? It turned out to be a big mystery😁😁
Hello Jay, the replacement crush washers I bought from www.euromotoelectrics.com were listed as: Aluminum Crush Washer 24x29x2 BMW Part # 11 41 7 652 949 Measuring the used one from my bike with calipers I'm seeing an ID of 24 mm and an OD of close to 31mm, but my assumption is a fresh one starts with an OD of 29 mm prior to being crushed.
