If you remove the wipers and scuttle panel which is 2 nuts for the wipers and 4 bolts holding on the scuttle panel it makes the diesel filter access so much easier and only takes around 10m to do.

I serviced one of these today, I agree what a bloody nightmare!!!

These aren't too bad. To prime/bleed them you bleed the injector feed first (front connector as in this video). Keep sucking until fuel comes through with no bubbles in the fuel, when this is done reconnect it. There's a missing stage in this video. The next (most important part) which people fail to do and land themselves in a mess with flattening their battery etc by trying to start is that you must bleed the return too. This is the pipe that sits on top of the metal fuel filter cover. Bleed this until you have no air bubbles, you need to pull a good amount of fuel through the system here to get all the air out of the fuel. If you think you've bled and it still doesn't start, do NOT be tempted to remove the injector feed pipe again or you'll have to start from scratch. Re bleed the return pipe again, once you get all the air out and reconnected it'll fire up. When fired up just let it idle for a while, maybe 5 mins or so.

Cant believe im gonna give a mechanic a tip, before the oil drain bolt if full undone tie a piece of wire around it so it doesnt fall into your pan Also to point out, brake fluid doesn't evaporate, so if you are needing to top it up that lost fluid must have gone somewhere, be worth checking around the pistons on the calipers, this is how i noticed my rear cylinder was leaking on my motorbike

Upto the diesel filter I was thinking I'd manage it but I'd rather leave it to a mechanic, good review

Got a 2003 fusion not much different from that. More space behind the air cleaner and they provide a rubber bulb to pump the deisel when you change the filter. So newer means more corner cutting not to mention dpf, etc? Mine is not an exciting car but my wallet loves the cheap motoring! Had it since 2013 and its turned out to be a very cheap, reliable, low running costs car.

Hi mate. I have a xsara Picasso with the 1.6 hdi version of this engine. a dealer tech recommended to remove oil filter whilst sump plug open as filter housing will drain through a bit more oil

Would it not be easier sucking the oil out using a pump

had problem starting the ford i thing the desal filter is derty the out let that looks at you the one you put your pump on if i disconect that and turn the engine over should fuel come out of it

You no the pipe that comes from tank to the filter shale I pull fuel up to there first or just pull it through the front one going to injectors

Can I use a bulb with tube fitted each side to bleed it and if I left the out let pipe disconnect and turned engine over should diesel start coming out of filter or not

Rocker cover gasket easy to do on one of these

Thanks for quick reply the reason I asked as just brought the 1.4 dci Ford Fiesta mk7 2010 reg in morning go to start glow light goes out after 2 seconds turn the key and it starts to turn over then just stops try three times then it starts also just gone up the road and engine went in limp mod for 15 seconds then it picked up any idea what these two problems could be apriciat your help thanks

Got the syringe was stiff to open so it wouldn't work now works pulled nice clean desal through the pipe from tank then pulled through the one at front car still won't start I put the syringe on the male end pipe the one over the top of filter am I serpose to be able to pull fuel out of that to clear any air bubbles or not

Hi you no the top cover on the fuel filter the car I brought that I am putting new filter in dose it matter if it don’t have one on it the bolt that you were tacking out on the side dose that hold the filter

hi mate, hope your doing good. just have a quick question and want to ask if its okay to mix oil viscosity. e.g. if your car has 5w40 inside and needs a top but you only have 10w30 with same spec, would it be okay to top it up with that?

Hi today I set out to change glow plugs using your vid as I have the same car I beleave comes up as 1.4 tdci 2010 reg I had a hard time trying to get the air box out it worked out that there were cables clipped to the back of it managed to free them and had to get someone to pull up on apron then I got it out I got one glow plug out and recited a new one botch the second one as you look at engine coming from right side can you tell me do I have to remove any thing else to take out other three as last one on left side seem hard to get to any help would be great thanks again

Hi mate, Is this a 1.4 tdci or a 1.6 tdci ? Ive just bought a 2011 1.4 tdci and when accelerating it sort of jerks and also when letting off the accelerator.... So Im thinking the fuel filter is blocked. I want to give the car a good service and change all filters and see if this makes a difference. Great video by the way, Thanks.

hi ive just got a 2003 ford fiesta with the same 1.4 its dune 240.000 yes that high but it runs nice the oil what you say put in it would it make any difference just use cheap oil thanks

hi mate , recently bought a 1.4 tdci 2002 147 k on clock just changed oil filter oil air filter . when I purchased car it seemed and little down on power . you can feel turbo pulling don't get me wrong but feels like there should be a bit more pull. and on the odd occasion it would drive with a bit more pull but not very offten. when idling turbo revs up to 6000 . but when in gear and on the move turbo pulls until 3000 revs and there's a change in engine noise and doesn't feel as if turbo pulling much but will keep rising . any ideas ? fuel filter next to change. I unplugged maf sensor made no difference . car doesn't blow any smoke what so ever black or white. not sure on egr being problem have you any thoughts suggestions before I plough money in to the parts. I am a keen home mechanic and do a lot myself . so always get my hands dirty ha . living in the sunny southeast of wexford where are you based. look forward to hearing back cheers 👍
