...and Rafa is now losing some hair and may start to join the “balding”club soon... hopefully though, 2020, he gets his 20th and 21st GS.. hair or no hair..
Roger's (and Rafa's) response to the Pete/Andre tension Roger: Its getting a little tense here... Rafa do something... (Rafa's telepathy: ...should we play a funny point...) (Roger's telepathy: Sure.) Roger: *big forehand* Ooorarghhhhhhh!!!
I always re-watch this just to hear "what Roger and Rafa have is so unusual in sports" cause it's impossible to believe two rivals to be such good friends
I think Rafa must've missunderstood Agassi alot of times. Agassi can be quite passive agressive.. You can see it in Rafa's Game as well, it was bothering him..
@@Sleydo Rafa was not understanding what was going on. He said in an interview later on he wasn’t sure what was being said between the players during the match.
Agassi calls Sampras boring in front of the entire stadium. Sampras imitates the walk(which several players do) and it was genuinely funny and in good taste. Agassi retaliates by mocking Pete's personal life instead of his game and generates unnecessary tension for everyone. Agassi's is a baby and still takes his losing record against Pete personally.
The worst thing is that when Pete makes an effort to fix it (1:08:52) and end the thing with a sweet way, and Andre reacts very well (1:08:56), the speaker doesn´t help at all. Buf
51:45 Roger thinking his and Rafa's rivalry would be fiercer years down the line and instead we get Rafa jumping into Roger's arms and Roger writing entire love letters to rafa for winning slams lmaoo
26:50 = insane hands by Fed, handling some missles from Agassi and Nadal. The reminds me how clean Andre was off the ground. This was at nearly 40 years old. Insane.
I think Agassi is a genuinely nice and funny guy, and this is why he has so many fans and gets the biggest cheers! I don't think Agassi is looking for attention it is who he is and without him this would have been a silent snooze fest other then the playing! Pete is uber serious but I do like how competitive he is! Roger is a cool dude and a beat along with Nadal who is dealing with a language barrier. All beasts and legends, fun match!
he seems humble because he doesn't understand ( www.theguardian.com/sport/2010/mar/16/andre-agassi-apologises-pete-sampras ): Nadal was asked about Sampras and Agassi after his Monday night match. "Everybody told me after the match what's happened, but during the match, you know how fast Americans speak, and I am Spanish. I didn't understand nothing," he said.
Andre has definitely more charisma than anyone else in tennis history. * Rafa misses a net volley* Agassi: "They don't make athletes like they used to...." xD
I've read "Open" and "A Champions Mind". They borh respected each other but Andre clearly has a major chip on his shoulder regarding Pete, and Pete CLEARLY has an elevated level of competitiveness regarding Agassi. They're not good friends and they're not warm rivals. In calm conditions they say really respectful things about each other. For example, after Agassi won French in 99 Sampras said it was a remarkable and brilliant achievement. But then he smashed Agassi in 99 Wimbledon. Im sure only they really understand their very complex relationship.
Thanks for posting. I loved seeing Federer, Sampras and Nadal, but Agassi was an immature, unfunny brat, just like he was when he was in his prime. He's a jerk on the court. Always was.
The male commentator mentions at the beginning that Rafa had 6 GS titles but was expecting that to grow. Watching this in June 2014, just before Wimbledon and that number has already increased to 14!
The tension is just hilarious. Actually neither Agassi nor Sampras come off as particularly mature in this clip. Which, by the way, gives us an idea of how wonderful it might be if the top guys were to play doubles (regularly)..
Pete Sampras was a genius player underrated because he wasnt a show pony. His charity revolves around cancer. He beat Andre in 2002 before Pete retired. And all remember what pay and endorsements are now. I saw Pete playing on a back court in Sydney -doubles - and never had seen him before but knew immediately he would go on to be a true champion. and had no ego - just played - a master game.
Sampras is 38. Federer is now 37 and is still is at the top of the men's game. It just goes to show that expectations are being raised for players to continue playing well into their 30s as a result of Federer's recent success.
I think Agassi went a bit too personal on such a stage.. he's a lot of fun but he should have eased off or made a compliment to comfort the situation. Pete is an introvert, he's a great sport for showing up for such an event (as are the others).. and it gets to him. He might not have meant it, but Agassi should have noticed that his joke didn't land well. I do love to see these players on court though, let alone together... can't believe we are at the end of another era 'already'.
I know one thing that made Pete so great was his serve.....but if you were to equalize his serve with Agassi's, Agassi would have destroyed him on almost every occasion they played...That's why Pete has no French Open and actually never even got a sniff of one. Because the French Open neutralizes the serve to a degree. You have to be able to adapt, and the other 3 guys adapted. Pete Sampras is one of the greatest of all time, but, IMO, all the other 3 should be regarded higher on the list. Agassi did many things Pete didn't do, and Agassi held his level of play at a high level for a very long time (which was almost unheard during that specific generation of players).
Noah the Ark builder would be proud that his rich grandchildren are helping their cousins. There were eight family members in that Ark. (Genesis 6 - 11) The three married sons Ham, Japheth and Shem with their wives repopulated the earth. Thank you for showing up for Ham's descendants. I come through that line as well. Love❤ you guys
Being Djokovic arguably the best player ever at hard court, having 2 Grand Slams played on hardcourt out of 4 and still being behind Federer and Nadal, I think he is kind overrated. If there were 2 Grand Slams played on clay, there would be no discussion about the best player ever.
After watching this video I'm just grateful that Roger and Rafa's rivalry is the way it is... They respect each other. Unlike Andre and Pete..ughh...grow up guys.
I wouldn't say Federer respects Nadal after all the shit talk he's done; he just takes the high road. That's how he earned the number one reputation in all of sports.
7:40: DO you feel out of place here not having any children??!?! Are you for real!!?? Rafas answer should have been: Do you feel out of place not havinig a grand slam trophy??
11 years ago Federer had 16 Grand Slams titles. On this day in 2021 Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all locked on 20 Grand Slam titles together. What an era of tennis to witness.
2010: Nadal has 6 and Roger has 16, almost 3x the gap 10 years later... Both are tie at 20 in year 2020. You really cant predict tennis. Hope next gen will achieve this feat or much more
It was a bit predictible that Rafa would win a lot of GS titles, considering that he already had 6GS and in this video he was 23 years old... Phenomenal player.
ellystripes yeah it was a bit uncalled for. Sampras looked a bit pissed off, made be go off Agassi after this but your call on the Australian hit for Haiti is brilliant. Seen it many times and is one of my faves.
While it wasn't Andre's best joke of the night, it was harmless and if it bothered Sampras a little, good. Sampras was sleepwalking up to that point and after that he had motivation to make it more competitive.
Agassi always looked so stiff in his movements, especially compared to someone like Fed but his shots are still awesome. 33:33 "What are you doing? We don't hit with pace anymore, it's all spins now" lmao
Bad atiquette from Agassi and classy act from Pete. Agassi took very badly Pete's imitation of him and offended Pete greatly making the personal joke, Pete pretended he wasn't offended, but I can see that he really was...
