Great video Mark - very detailed. Many other videos related to this topic are not detailed enough. Excellent patience and time to get the good pics for us. Appreciated!

Same problem-no heat on the drivers side, 2011 Armada with dual climate control. Thanks for the video. You are still helping people two years later! This is the best video I have seen so far. Yes, taking the bracket plate off instead of the actuator was much easier! Putting the screws back in is scary because it think it would be hard to find one if you dropped it, but I got it done. Worth noting, if looking down on the car from above, the cam turned clockwise closes off the heat, and turned counter-clockwise opens the heat. The cog on the actuator is key'd and you will need it closed the cam to get it to fit back in. I used an endoscope to see what I was doing and that was a big timesaver, $16 from amazon. I laid a tablet in the floor board and could see all the screws as I was working. Also in case it was not mentioned, the screws holding the heater cover and the bracket plate are 5.5mm, and the screws on the actuator are 7mm. Overall I tacked this in about 1.5 hours. Part number 604-970 or 27743-ZP00A, $17 from amazon. My other expense was a small jointed 1/4 socket wrench that came in a 3 size pack for $10 from harbor freight.

I've read thru all the comments and am curious as to whether the complaint of No Heat on the Drivers side is actually NO Air Flow on the Drivers Side but on the Passenger Side while in the heating mode? Was the same problem prevalent in the A/C mode? I have sufficient air flow, but the heat isn't as hot as on the passenger side. I hope someone sees this. Thank you.

Great video, a rookie like me wouldn't have made it without all the helpful info. Adding one thing. When you run the truck for a few min and then turn it off...stay quiet and if you wait a few minutes you may hear small electric motor sound in the dash (near the glovebox). If you do, you know it's not the electric actuator. In my case a small piece of the white plastic piece broke off. So the unit it was just spinning and the temp couldn't be controlled. It would go back to the last temp setting. We super glued it/rebonded and it's now working perfect. Basically, the small electric motor will run a few times after the ignition is turned off (if plastic is broken and it's not the actuator). It was a miracle we saw the small piece that broke off. I tried to order one but had a hard time finding the part. Thanks again

Aaron is right. my issue was the very small triangular stop on the cam broke off. Only one way to see this is to take the dash out. It took me 10 hrs having never done it before. Mark is part Ninja.. my hat is off to him to replace the actuator. I could have removed it possibly, but reinstalling it, not losing all the screws and getting the cam to engage properly on the posts to me almost seems impossible. My advice, take the dash out, it takes a lot of time, but you will be able to see if it is a broken stop on the cam.... this would have been nearly impossible to find and retrieve this part with the limited view.

Thanks for this video! My QX is clicking when starting and it's not caused by the usual actuators you see people replacing on RU-vid. It's this one, behind where the coolant lines go into the top of the heater box. I wasn't even aware there was an actuator there - the Nissan/Infiniti diagrams are useless. Does not look fun to change this one but I've got small hands so hopefully that makes it go a little easier.

A+++. I had the same issue, '10 qx56 no heat on driver side. Followed the video step by step replacing that actuator and it fixed it. Side note, removing the radio and all the trim in the center will give you a better view of what you are working on. And it is still a B****. Get someone with small hands! Thanks man!

It’s the actuator shown in this video I posted Danny. A pain to get too, but a heck of a lot better than dealer cost to fix

I'm confused because Infiniti is giving me part numbers that don't cross reference. I need to change the same exact part on a 2010, but Infiniti gave me part no. 27141-1LA0A for passenger side ans 27141-1LA0B for divers side. Do you know the part number for the drivers side? I'm talking about the one way in the top that's kinda hard to get to? Both parts are for the mode. I think I need the mode on the driver's side and the actuator one you did in the video? I did have clicking noise, but it stopped making the noise. I think it is completely broken because it doesn't make the noise anymore. I already changed the one in the rear because it was clicking.

Thank you for taking the time to create and post this video, Mark! I'm attempting this repair this weekend. How were you able to get the socket on the back screw holding the cover on the heater housing? I can't get my hand in there and I can't see it. Also, what did you use to get the great camera shots? Was it an inspection camera?
@markhutchins5358

Lyle, After removing the heater housing cover I was just barely able to get my right hand into the space just above the assembly. It wasn’t an easy fit - turned by hand to the right to feel the screws. I did it all by feel and so if you cant get your hand in there it will be tough. I used an iPhone to take the pics. I did see somewhere where if you remove the center console in the dash you can more easily see into the space but I didn’t want to have to mess with that. Good luck! It took ALOT of patience

Hi Mark, thank you for the video. I couldn't find any others for the QX56. A quick question - you mentioned that there are 5 actuators. I had watched another video where the person only showed location of four of them. Three of them located behind glove box area and one by steering column under dash behind console. Do you know the location of the other one? Are there actuators we have to be concerned about for the 2nd and 3rd row heating/air? I have a creaking door sound coming from one of them - I was told it must be a door hanging up and that the actuator either works or not. I am assuming it's not worth it or even possible to just replace a door so I would need to replace the whole actuator anyway.
@markhutchins5358
@markhutchins5358 4 года назад
Hi Casandra. There is an actuator on the right side in the back just behind the third row. You have to take out a panel or two to get to it but it’s much easier to replace than the one behind the dash. I also heard clicking from that one when the heat in the rear wasnt working. I think I did see a video on that one specifically. If I can’t find it I will try to snap a couple of pics for you. Mark

I'm having intermittent issues with the dual climate controls going back to heat on my 08 QX56. Heater control valve seems to be working still as both sides are hot but I get no heat on driver, passenger or rear controls. Any suggestions? Could this be a actuator(s) problem as well?

How if the driver side blow hot air and passenger side blows cold (reverse situation) is this actuator also the culprit?
@hobbyist1001
@hobbyist1001 3 года назад
@@markhutchins5358 I got to the actuator under behind the glove box deep back there I can get to it just need the right tool probably going to have to get a flexible automatic screwdriver with an adapter or a ratcheting 5.5 MM wrench or equivalent
@markhutchins5358
@markhutchins5358 3 года назад
@@hobbyist1001 the socket wrench I used was a miniature set….the smallest I could find because a standard wratchet was too big. I looked for a small battery powered socket but couldn’t find anything small enough.
@markhutchins5358
@markhutchins5358 3 года назад
@@mannypogi1738 I guess I can’t guarantee that as I had the opposite problem but I would open up the dash enough to be able to at least see the actuator I show in the video using a phone camera. If it’s moving properly when you change the heat control then no need to change it. The issue here is that the small plastic piece gets out of the track which causes a clicking sound if the actuator motor is till working or the motor isn’t working at all which was my situation. You should be able to see that before trying to remove/replace any of the bolts which was the toughest part
@tidepodlover0382

So we replaced the actuator and it’s still blows cold air also whenever you play music with bass the left driver door rattles but it’s not a blown speaker what could it be
@markhutchins5358
@markhutchins5358 3 года назад
Hi, I’d like to help but it sounds like you have different issues happening. I am pretty sure you door rattling has nothing to do with the heat actuator. Have to keep searching on that one. Hopefully you can find someone who has seen the same. If the actuator was replaced and you can see that’s it’s working properly as you turn the heat one then you may have a different actuator that is not working. There are several of these in the vehicle. Sorry I can’t help more. Although I was able to solve a specific issue that others have also had, I am certainly not a mechanic or expert on the QX 56. Good luck!

You can definitely do that and I have heard several people say that made the job easier. For me I was just trying to avoid removing anything else from the dash. Pretty sure you can find a video on removing the radio if you decide to go that route

Thanks for making this video! One question... I have a 2011 Nissan Armada and my issue is I can regulate the temperature on the driver side; however, the passenger side blows nothing but heat. Would this be the same actuator that you took apart in this video?
@markhutchins5358
@markhutchins5358 3 года назад
I think so Jeffrey. When you get access to the actuator in the video you should be able to see if it’s working using a phone camera to make sure you don’t take anything apart you don’t need to

They are both the same part number 27743-ZP00A. The passenger air mix actuator is on the passenger side on the bottom . Its the easiest one to do but still requires some effort.

Check your heater control valve under the hood, it will be on the fire wall passenger side, it is a black box with a heater hose on each side. Start your car and let it warm up with the heater on ,after it is good and warm feel both hoses on each side off the box they should both be hot,if only one is then the heater control valve is bad you can get that at autozone or most any part store I personally like autozone cause they usually carry Dorman brand heater parts which are the most trouble free well made
