When people make SUVs such as this one, people don't care about soft touch materials! It's not like you going to be laying on the top of the dashboard!!
@@anthonyr1930 A new wrangler might last you 150k miles before the transmition goes or the engine and not to mention all the other parts that will fail since it's a fiat/Chrysler (worst cars on the planet) vs. the Toyota will easily make it to 300k miles and probably close to 1 million.
Need less personal opinion and more facts. Some luxuries weren't even mentioned. I think they had to trade the luxury interior components for rugged components. Yeah who's concerned with resting their muddy arm on leather. The only thing I would change on my 13 is the single 12v outlet on the dash. Kind of inadequate this day in time. Yes it's manly and rugged. Has great point of view by my observation. Eco light is cool! Pretty common sense but hey it lets you know how far you're into the throttle. We like the woods with trees that have leaves.
I'm a longtime subscriber and was looking into an FJ or 4Runner trail so watching lot's of review but I'm surprised at how you reviewed this legend. You've changed since then
Rewatching this one hours before Toyota unveils its replacement and I must say this is the best look for the fifth gen 4Runner. The 2014 update ruined the front end imo.
i know this is an old video but the model you tested is the TRAIL version.... hence none of the luxuries. Try out the limited and i'll think you'll be singing a different song. I have the 03 Limited 4x4. Super comfortable and luxurious (for the time). Btw, that funny shift knob is old school. That's what people buying the Trail version would want. I was sad that my 03 came with that lame 4x4 dial. Ask any 4x4 enthusiast, that was lame. I'm sad that they ended the manual versions in 2000. BTW, truck based 4x4 are not a dying breed. Any hardcore outdoor enthusiast (there are a lot of them) will buy this over any other SUV. No way a car based SUV will go where this 4runner will go. The 4urunner heritage will never allow for a non-solid rear axle. My 03 is at 250k miles without a single hiccup.
I laughed at how many times you said "manly." I like the vehicle, but also looking at the new Explorers. I like the fact this still has a truck chassis, as well as being able to turn on/off 4wd.
We were simply just pointing out the "theme" that Toyota put for this particular Trail model. Of course there will be woman that buy this vehicle and enjoy driving it. It wasn't meant to offend anyone, just kindly "mock" the vehicle in a humorous way. We apologize if it offended you, it wasn't meant too.
My dad still has a 1993 4Runner with a 2.8l diesel engine with about 67kw which is I think about 85hp! Takes about 16seconds to 100kph lol and tragic legroom but he loves it..
Nice review:)... I like the 5th Gen 4Runner but if I were in the market I'd probably go with the previous gen or even a used FJ - Interesting that you mention not winning drag races with the 4Runner - I've always thought the 4.0L (the 236hp version) had loads of power and moved the weight around well. My 07 Tacoma took many unsuspecting drivers by surprise... I would think that the updated V6 would be even torquier - no?
The one thing that always bothered me about our old 4th gen 4runner was the headroom. We had ours with the sunroof and at 6'3" my head would touch the headliner. It looks like the new one has the same problem! I always preferred the Land Cruiser because I fit in it properly
those are 17" inch rims. And running boards are optional on the trail for more ground clearance. Push button is reserved for the limited. The 4 cylinder is only for the base of the base SR5. Navigation is optional on all models. Electronic 4WD is for the limited only. USB is in the glovebox. And the controls on the roof is called the A-TRAC controls. And you missed the party mode button :(
11 years later and this vehicle is extremely desirable ATrac Locking rear diff Multi terrain select Crawl control Manual 4x4 lever So stop bitching Fast forward to 2021 and the TRD off road and TRD Pro carry on the torch.
This is the car I would buy in a heartbeat if I could afford to buy a new car. I've always wanted a 4runner. Anyone else notice how he kept pronouncing 4runner as "foreigner?" :)
LoudProudNPunk1 The 2005 is the best in my opinion :) That 4.7L V8 was a beast. They need to add a V8 option to the new 4Runner. That reason alone kills this model for me :/
@svenskfox I have a 2003 and I for fine. I don't have a sunroof though. Its because the sunroof equipped models have a dip in the headliner to accommodate the glass when it slides back.
It’s for off road not luxury lol there amazing trucks // and they been here longer then u been alive / 4 runners hold here name 💯 they will run forever and hold there value // do ur research /
part-time 4wd not permanent(limited has fulltime), the stick is a more reliable rather than knob(servos break), toyota has 2 many suv/cuv so does ford and bunch of others now. Personally id buy this over any other competitor offered.
And while I love my & your dads 4th Gen more, I'd still own this one. Take a 4th Gen over it every day, but if I had to have new it'd be the trail or limited.
****** F A C T S ***** They're not running boards. They're "rock sliders" , armor that protects the chassis and are mounted on the ladder frame. Its a MUST for offroading. They dont stick as far as they should because its a conservative factory option. Its got a factory e-locker and an 8.2" revised rear axle. If you offroad at all, this is the version to get. The "J" style manual transfercase is the one to get. Its far superior to the electronic knob. This is an objective oriented review and not an offroad expert review of this vehicle... 4runner is among the best options for offoading.... BUT still a good video review... i enjoy watching your videos on my spare time.
Yeah man if you want interior with flashy interior try the land cruiser. And why is everyone comparing the v6 to the v8? A lot of 4th gens had them. And they got a sequoia that's a v8. Its like comparing the Tacoma to a silverado, you don't compare different classes.
Anthony Burke I said that because that battery is a high end battery 3-4X more than a standard battery. To check if a battery is full put a multimeter on it
I have the 2021. The 4 litre 6 has a rep for being underpowered but it's really the throttle by wire that causes the disconnect delay. I noticed when on the highway it does great. 60to 100mph was surpriseingly fast. But but at 40mph seems underpowered cause of that throttle
