THE WIPERS ON OUR 2012 FORD MUSTANG WOULD TURN ON RANDOMLY WITH THE SWITCH IN THE "OFF" POSITION. WASHER FLUID WOULD ALSO SPRAY...... SOME PEOPLE SAY ITS THE ON/OFF (Multi Function Switch).... others say the Wiper Motor...... Well... here's why it's the wiper motor over the switch.... AND....... WHY THE COWL FILLS WITH WATER... Yes... that was the answer to my problem. It only took about 20 minutes to take it apart, blow out the connectors with compressed air, clean with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease and re-assemble. It worked like a charm! Thank you!! Shame on Ford for such a poor design.

Yes. I totally agree. At the least, that should be a waterproof plug and the connector should be at least at the top of the motor.

Don't forget to wrap electric tape or duck,boot on plug so it don't repeate also do not repeate do not drive thru car wash use hand car wash or else

Thank You!!!!!! I would have never looked at the drains they were clogged cleaning them and changing the wiper motor fixed the issue from happening again (2013 ford mustang)

Just had this random wiper issue. Changed the relay and multifunction switch. No change. Guess I’ll be removing the cowl and checking the plug

replaced the motor, multifunction switch, fuse, and relay on mine last year and this year i again have the issue. It just rained very heavy so there must be water in the connector like you said.

Yup just pulled the cowl and my drain plug is packed with debris. Pulled the connection at motor and it’s green with corrosion from water. Thanks ford 🫡

Thank you this was my problem I had water leaking in from the cabin filter and I begain to freak out till I found the plug. Then weeks later my windshield wiper has this issue

This is a major design flaw causing an ongoing problem with these Mustangs. Sometimes the clogged drainage will cause the water to soak the interior floors as well. Thanks Ford.

Yes!!!! I had the exact same problem in my 2014 gt. Whenever it would rain the water would leak directly inside on the passenger floor. All because of that fucking drain plug. As soon as I toon the plug out all the water came poring out

If your wipers come on randomly ,the motor works its either,1fuses ,2 relay faulty,3 wiper switch in steering wheel housing 4, wiring problem ,also look at you back turn blinkers at same time wipers co.e on if they are no running correct their related both out of sincro faulty relay switch or switch in str/houseing

Actually it is easy to clean out the drain boots without dissassemblly of anything. They stick out in plain view back by the fire wall. You just squeeze and flex them and all of the drech falls out. It is too late for mine though. I had the w motor replaced and same problem fried the new one before I saw this vid. so it is now on to wiper moter nuber 3. Pfffft.

if the wipers were coming on, the motor should of been good, right? My wipers just never shut off, nothing random.Will check for water thx

Same problem when I went through the car wash. Dried everything and put back together with the dialectic grease Didn’t have to replace the switch I’m leaving the rubber grommets out. Even small shit will clog them quickly. I swear Ford does this on purpose! Why reduce the grommet to just a slit at the bottom of it?? 2011

I agree. They really don't need to be there. It seems if you catch it early enough, the motor doesn't need to be replaced. If the motor sits wet for a length of time or numerous times, it's toast

I wonder where those drains go to and if you can leave them out or need to clean down past the rubber grommets? I'm getting ready to attempt the fix on my 2008 soon. Apparently this issue has went on for almost 20 years and Ford never addressed anything for it.

they drain basically down the front of the firewall. It's super easy to clean them out. If you left the rubber out, I can't see it hurting anything????

@@canadianshadowrider One downside could be that it's easier for mice/small rodents to get up through those drain holes, but I'm with you: I've removed both of mine after having 1) rain water end up in the passenger-side footwell, and 2) a wiper motor that clearly suffered from water damage (the circuit board on the motor assembly was corroded and moldy; unbelievable). Brilliant design.

Is there water in the plug that connects to the motor? Make sure it's dry.

I need help guys I have a 2010 Mustang and it’s doing the same thing where the windshield wipers and the fluid will randomly turn on when I’m driving and won’t turn off manually. I tried to ask my man to help me fix it and he kind of just threw his hands in the air so I’m trying to watch your video to do it myself do you guys have any suggestions ?

What part of the video are you having a problem with? Most likely, your drain holes are plugged and the area is filling with water... just like the video

Just a new motor. I got it from Rockauto for around $100 or less. I bought the Motocraft one

@@canadianshadowrider yeah I got a new motor cause mine was shot then literally 2 days after it just turned on whenever I turned the key on and wouldn’t turn off. I had to unplug fuse until I found ur video literally the only reason it happened was because the plug was filled with gunk
