@@Alczvnder water pump, thermostat, pcv valve, coil packs, plugs, regular oil changes with quality oil, dsg fluid and filter service, motor mounts every 30k-40k miles or upgrade to 034 density mounts for a one and done job. That covers just about everything. These cars are incredibly reliable and a lot of fun when taken care of
@@slo.asf.s386 are you thinking of the last generations V8? I haven't heard anything about timing issues with the 3.0 supercharged. I had a B8.5 and we loved that car. Had the DSG and dog went. Having a manual would be the way to go and that would be a really fun street car.
I’ve had a b8 s4 for the past 6 months and it’s a blast. Apr stage 2 wakes the car up a lot and with an intake the supercharger whine sounds like a hellcat 🤣
Very nice review! For a sports sedan, no manufacturer beats Audi when it come to engineering, fit, form, fuction and timelessness of the styling! I still own a 2001 S4 stage 2 and it has been very reliable still on original turbos with +140,000 miles. And I bought it brand new.
Hmm!....the ISF is your best bet! This series Audi had a multitude of problems: Oil consumption issues PCV valve issues Misfiring/ Coilpack issues HPFP Issues EPB Issues TPMS Issues So.....if you don't want your "pockets" to be on empty, get the ISF, you will ride with peace of mind!
I mean you still need a warranty with both idk why people think Lexus is some impermeable brand they can have issues to like any other car and parts cost a fortune on an F car
So, I own a Lexus GS F sport, Lexus GX 460, and purchased my first A8…the A8 was used/90k windshield leaking…dripped on steering wheel now steering wheel functions out of commission…solar roof shad broken, rear shade broken…AND because I brought it out of my state I haven’t even been able to drive it after the 45 day temp plate time. :-/…the interior is crazy-diamond stitching…I do have the B&O System…abt - 7…I am purchasing a S4 from a mechanic/dealer…and I am looking forward to it. I just like these cars appearance. The A8 I have I wrapped and placed wheels on….I am very curious to see how this car does…Lexus will be my 🏆, but I am looking forward to this Audi adventure. The reason I trust buying this car is because I trust the seller. Very curious…good review.
my 2011 is currently in the garage because I'm replacing the clutch in the DSG transmission and fixing timing cover leaks. I still love my car and knew what I was getting into before I bought it. That being said, if I wasn't capable of fixing everything myself, I couldn't afford to own one. Thank God, my Dad has has lifetime of collecting tools he lets me use.
I recently got a 2010 Infiniti G37x and crashed so it might be a total. That's got me slightly shopping for something else. It's funny when you hear this Audi S4 has a 6 cylinder with 330hp and AWD. My 2010 G37x has AWD and 328hp WITHOUT a supercharger. Probably slightly more reliable than a German car. But I know all cars have issues if you look hard enough... so I'm watching these videos and curious on owners who've actually had these cars for a long time and high mileage think about long term ownership experiences...
I bought a 2010 Audi S4 B8 that was really high milage, close to 300,000 kilometers on the chasis and approximately 150,000 on the motor. Common engine fault codes at this high are normally O2 sensors and an Air Control Circut issue. Generally speaking, if you also buy one high-milage (because yes, regardless of KM's, its a very quick car and awd, so for 10,000 or less, you literally cannot beat it) but generally, get a Carbon Cleaning done on the intake valves and ensure your MEC Unit (in the transmission) has been serviced already and the front coolant bypass has been done. Luckily mine had the ARP coolant bypass, an upgraded pully and a tune. It leaks oil from somewhere lol but other than that, really solid machine for being 20 years young.
I was pretty sure that the super charged V six did not come in until two thousand fourteen in cars unless it was a convertible this one It's a 2011 on top of that. It's a six speed manual which I was told even from Audi only came behind the four point two v eight and it was also rare
I recently purchased a 2013 Audi S4 B8.5 with DSG. Long story short I got it off Copart as a project daily driver build. After 98% completed I think it’s having a gear shift issue. I’ve pulled up two codes both having to do with the car not going into the gear. Never owned an Audi before but had I known about issues with their DSG I think I would of stayed away.
Don't need get a warranty, try to get a manual, will not have problems with the transmission and keep the money for potential repairs. Likelihood of repairs more expensive than the warranty is pretty low then. I own a 2010 manual and the only problem I had in 30k miles was a failed ride height sensor. Funnily that was also one of two issues I had with a B8 3.0tdi in 70k miles (the other was 3 failed door locks). B8 is currently probably as reliable as Audis ICE will ever get, they sorted a lot of problems from the past and was the last generation before the crazy emission control stuff.
@@shiftautomotive854 you can do your research. But not much models out there anymore. They're very underrated sleepers. They look like regular audi but with a tune they can do 0-60 in less than 3 sec. People are buying them used like hot cakes. I know because i was looking for one. specially with the manuals.. The facelift B8.5s are very bulletproof cars, that being said there are some issues you should be aware of. Motor mounts above 50K miles, need to be checked tons of people have had theirs replaced under warranty right before 50K miles. "creaking noise" on startup, this could be loose chain guides due to a faulty initial design. It's not a very common problem but it can happen. There is a TSB for it for 2013-2014 models, check for this issue before buying. DSG is bulletproof, as long as it was properly maintained look at service records. CATS will blow eventually. Even some stock cars will blow through their cats at higher mileage 60-80K. Beware. Other than that, they are very solid reliable cars.
@@MeynMotorGroup Lol that was definitely enjoyable bro I steer away from those Lexus against Mercedes comments and battles after awhile it’ll get you mad both ways loving both of those brands and the brand snobs going to war those ones definitely be the worst 😂🤣
It's just whatever car that individual has on their driveway is all of a sudden the best car in the world. I will give Lexus people this, most Lexus enthusiasts actually put their money where their mouth is and own a Lexus or maybe they even owned some German car before and switched but either way most Lexus people have skin in the game whereas most German fan girls don't own anything and they're just talking just to hear their own thoughts
2010 S4 120,000 + odometer ... I love it. It's not a car for the lazy. You have to learn how to work on it. Don't drive fast and furious and be pro active with your maintenance and it will be reliable.
Just got a 2010 S4 81k miles on it, fully loaded and painted blue. Have had some issues with it, might need a new mech unit and control arms are bad. So I need new tires, transmission service, new control arms and alignment. Problem is I’ve owned this car for 6-7 months and I love it. I’m super attached to the car man
disagree- give your S4 an Italian tune up at least once a day- drive it fast, just dont beat on it, remember these S4s are meant to drive at over 100mph for sustained periods on the Autobahn.
People can claim Audi is reliable all they want. They rate towards the bottom for reliability because as a whole they have more issues than most other manufacturers. The statistics don’t lie.
Im buying my first car and am stuck between an a4 prem plus w/ 50k miles or an s4 w/100k they’re pretty even in price and I love them both….I just don’t know which to pick.
I would leave a comment about the reliability of German cars but you kinda covered everything lol. Basically if you want performance, you are going to pay for it with reliability... and cash.
Yea my friend I grew up loving BMWs, of course as a child we have no driver's license to experience vehicles but the aesthetics of early to mid 2000s BMWs pleased me. But after driving the E92 BMW M3, that V8 had very little character driving was just ok as well. Honestly thought this S4 had more character
Lifes too short to drive boring cars and on the same note ,lifes too short to waste your income on cars as well. Besides that plasti-dipped grille and badge i wouldnt mind wipping this thing around till it exploded on me :D
True very true certainly not telling people to go bankrupt over cars def stay within your means but for the few like us who would like to whip something like this we must get it with a warranty and immediately dispose of it once warranty has expired lol
@@MeynMotorGroup yup just be prepared for taking the deprecciation bullet over the already deprecciated car but with cars it must be like that , some people dont care about what others say and buy this lemons anyway and its hard to steer them in another direction , its a thing they have to learn by themselves. I still believe performance and reliability can match with each other , you own a perfect example of that
i have a B8 laser red Audi S4, i love that car. Like you said, the B8 S4 ages really well and i get compliments on the car all the time. As far as reliability goes mine has been pretty reliable the last 2 years. 81k miles to 88k currently, its not my daily driver but i still drive it a fair amount. Mine does have the dreaded "Gearbox Malfunction, you can keep driving" error code, unfortunately. The car drives perfectly fine but the error code is coming from a sensor in the DSG transmission. The only way to fix it is to pull the whole transmission out. Ive decided to wait until something else seriously goes wrong with the transmission and ill replace the whole thing with a B8.5 tranny. I still recommended this car to anyone who wants a nice high performance sedan, the Audi quattro is unmatched. I recommend an S4 over an M3 any day. If you dont have little extra money for maintenance and if you dont have any shops(besides an Audi Dealer) near you that can work on Audis i dont recommend this car to you.
Own a 2011 S4. I've spent over 12K in the last year repairing known issues. Still having issues with the DL501 transmission, much like everyone. On the other hand I'm stage 2 430HP, 0-60 in 4.0 seconds and I love this car. Too many mods to list. 84000 miles at this point and I can still out run most things on the road, while getting 18/26 mileage. Interior and paint are almost perfect because I maintain it.
My 2010 S4 was purchased in 2014 with low miles and since then not one thing has failed on it. Most expensive repairs done are the brakes and spark plugs. It has 475hp and is a torque monster and you have to touch the throttle gently or it can spin all 4wheels if you are abrupt. None of my quattros spun wheels before. I always own several Audi and Porsche cars at all times like the red one in the pic.
Great review man! The S4 is a nice car for sure. My buddy owned a 2001 and I loved it. His was a Bi-Turbo and he had stage 2 done to it, so it was really fast.
@@MeynMotorGroup Hey brother, I’ve been good, how about you? Thanks man, I appreciate it, and congratulations to you as well! You are at 32k now, heck yeah man!
This car is a base model with no options. Doesn't have a sport diff, No B&O, No color display. There is a spare tire normally it's missing in this case ( i've never tried to fit a full sized rim though). Fully recommend one. I have a manual stage 2+ even on the stock clutch and cooling and it's pretty indestructible for normal daily life. 93k mile car issues include, thermostat, water pump, fuel pump control module, carbon cleaning (was AWFUL), serpentine belt tensioner squeal. The only thing i hate about the car is the manuals have a clutch depression switch issue where you can't start it without pushing hard on the clutch which gets worse with wear.
@ViciousWayz I am looking into a 11 6speed B8 to purchase? What brand oil you using to last that long and what miles and kind of clutch you went with. Are u modded or not possibly why its running well? Still debating this vehicle will be my daily 80 miles a day not gonna be garage queen. Appreciate any encouragement.
This is kinda nice. I got a 96 a4 2.8 Quattro with a 5 speed manual and 13k miles. Really is quiet inside, moves like its glued to the road. Sometimes I forget to shift into 5th cause its so quiet. Anyways, great review
I rented an ‘18 S5 to tool the Berkshires this weekend. I’ve owned an ‘11 S4. There’s just something about the ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ look and perf of the b8 that I prefer. The highlight was finding a 2001 Imola yellow RS4 avant, 6-speed, only 46k miles, all stock. It was absolutely flawless, bought and shipped from AZ. I would have loved to be able to grab it. Dream car.
Lol yea from what I've seen 🤣 but yea there are def good people too and it can certainly be good to gather information but there's also the other type of people on there too of course 😆
Thanks for this video. My mechanic tells me to stay away from Audi period. When I see used Audi's for sale its a lot cheaper than a similar equipped Lexus. The cheaper price is Tempting but I'd spend more to get the Lexus.
@@tony7760 No but I keep 4 or 5 Porsche/Audis on hand. This particular S4 has never had a single repair for failure of any component ever so you cannot go higher than 100% reliability. It gets pushed hard often to 7500 rpm.
I bought a 2011 s4 premium plus 6 speed manual in July at 84,000 miles. Car looks great and drives great but I’m having issues with it once every month or 2. I’m deciding now whether it’s worth getting a warranty or taking the L and downgrading to a newer a4 or 3 series. If you are looking to buy a car like this just know you will have issues pop up. Great video, Very helpful. 👍🏼
@hockeymasta 06 what problems you having i am looking into a 2011 B8 79Kmiles 6speed reason I am here debating. I wrench on my own cars so always wanted a awd audi. Just curious is it the waterpump pcv thermostat common issue but once replaced your golden for at least 60K miles or more. Other than that I may pull the trigger just reading the comments more exciting comments than bad.
I’ve had mine for 5 years and it’s 16.000km Audi A4 1.8 tfsi turbo 220 hp varumatic transmission 2009 and looks like s4. I’ve got problem with the electric brain gearbox. And it’s expensive AF. So my car been standing still for 2 years. Cant effort to repair it due money problem. Family first. Miss to drive it
Ok, so I've always wanted an audi, and a couple of friends of mine own some. I'm looking at one for 11k with 138k miles on it, the guy who owns it says it ls been nothing but great for him and he's only ever had to change oil and tires/brakes the timing chain was replaced before he bought it and the audi dealship where he gets it worked on says this one is good till the end of its life Now I know that's alot for this kind of car and problems could occur but as long I keep up on the basic maintenance I should be good right?? I also do not beat the shit out of my vehicles and it's a private sale but from an older guy. What should i do I need opinions.. good or bad 😅
I've got a '12, APR Stage 2+, dual pulley car with Armytrix cat back, HR Lowering springs, sway bars, APR Big Brake Kit, intake, some sick cosmetic stuffs. I've got 64K miles, I know, that's nothing as it stays in the garage a lot but I keep the oil very fresh, have changed tranny fluid one time, and that's about it. I've not had any repairs needed to be done other than when Audi recalled it in like '15 for the thermostat and replaced that for free, which is good since it's under the supercharger. For farts and giggles I may get an ultra charger. All in all, this is a very strong car, very attractive and plenty quick so you can dust up the Camaro and mustang crowd which is always big fun.
Who else owns one of these in 2023? I picked up a 2010 s4 couple of year ago. Stage one tuned, still enjoying it to date. Thanks for the honest review. Yes there's a price to keep her going with maintenance every now and then, but she's timeless and I'm not ready to move on yet. If I do it will be within the audi vw skoda family, absolutely love the DSG gearboxes.
So I'm probably going to pick it up even though I wanted to get AV. 8 all-wheel drive 6 speed. But I'm curious what the difference would be between the 2. The V8 all-wheel drive 6 speed VS the 2 super charge V6. All wheel drive six speed what are your thoughts
The dude's that write that you shouldn't buy the S4 and they had all these problems, they probably beat the living shit out of it and didn't maintain it well at all. Every call has it's own set of issues, if you maintain it properly, most of these types of cars will last a long time. Maintenance !
So another thing I wanted to mention is I do a lot of research in my Homework about vehicles I just came across A two thousand eleven s four that supposedly has the super charge v six and A six speed manual
I drive a b8.5 s5 and I can't stand the body roll. I'll be installing h&r coils, and an ecs rear sway bar in a month or so to try and negate it but idk. Feels like I need to put the car on a diet
B8 S4, big piece of shit reliability wise. DSG mechtronics unit likes to go. Chassis and interior is the same as an A4 which is pretty plasticky, motor is pretty reliable until you get to an undermaintined one (which is most of them) with timing chain problems, and also secondary air issues.
Harsh.Well Worth the maintenance lovely car which does have issues... what car doesn’t?? Typical of someone who can’t afford to run/maintain after buying then moan when it goes wrong. Interior is certainly not same as a A4, complete donut.
I own a subaru but it doesnt have any power. I want something with more power. Im thinking an s4 i just need to save up a lil money and trade my car in for one.
