Love mine....2011 Ultimate with 89k odo. The Rolls BMW and Merc guys out my way all impressed with it. They still can't believe it is a Hyundai 😂🤣😂🤣😂 Always a great conversation starter 😀 The 2011 body style and the 2020 are very classy.
Hyundai is making bold game changing moves which displays expertise and most importantly confidence. Like in any competitive endeavor, you know who your competition is. Hyundai is saying; I can beat you at this without any tricks, marketing strategies or class separation. Were coming at the world straight up, and on regular gas. 15 years ago Hyundai was the laughing stock, now other manufactures are trying to look the other way, or wondering what happened. Hyundai is now the 4th largest car company in the world. Adapt or Die.
aside from the leg-crushing problem, seems like the back seats are the best place to be in that car. Seems he also forgot to mention the sun shades for the rear windows too.
i was at Hyundai dealership yesterday getting new Elantra... and waiting for them to finish washing and preping the car i fell asleep inside the Equus, its amazing
I own a 750i and the Equus. When I get ready to go out on the town guess which key I'm grabbing for?.. I'll give you a hint, it's been two weeks since I drove my 750i
kolashnokov I have the 2011, and it is a head turner!. I have had zero maintenance issues with it. I love it. My BMW has more power and a smoother ride but in EVERY other aspect my Equus best my BMW. I highly recommend the 2011 Equus. You can get a luxurious car that you want see another at every corner.
kolashnokov The body style 2011 thru 13 are exactly the same nothing really changed. The 14 did a rim change and rear tail light change but pretty much look exactly like an 11. The 14 added some additional technology the 11 don't have and stiffened up the steering. Engine is a bit more powerful in the 14 yr model but nothing extremely noticeable. Me personally, I like the more classical look of the 11-13 models. Either way u can get a used 11 thru 14 with very LOW miles for just under 20k dollars. Wow
kolashnokov The K900 is a beautiful car. I don't know much about it performance or maintenance wise, but it is an absolutely beautiful car. With it also you want see one on every corner like you do with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Kia and Hyundai have the best warranties in the business and to me that says a lot. They stand behind their vehicles. While German cars are hailed as the upper tier of luxury and performance, they suck at reliability. At 70k miles my 750i started smoking out the tail pipe when in idle for long period or when stuck in traffic. Took it to the dealer and was told this was a "common problem" with the BMW 7 series, a valve seal problem and this common problem cost me almost 4k$ to repair. Have also had to replace 02 sensor and clutch plate on the steptronic transmission for another cool 3k$, and my BMW even isn't close to a 100k miles yet. The Equus or the K900 is in my opinion the best way to go. You get the opulence and luxury of the German automakers but without the expensive maintenance and terrible reliability issues. You also get the added joy of being unique. I love being asked what is it when I drive my Equus. I love people asking me is it a Bentley (mine has the chrome 4D Equus hood ornament on the front). I love not seeing another one like it in my town. So for all those reasons, I recommend you get either the Equus or the k900.
@HAMWI253 No, Hyundai is a minority interest stock holder of Kia. They have one of two board of director members on Kia's board. That is it. They are still regarded as direct competitors that share the same core parts.
love this reviewer!! He's funny and makes watching car reviews entertaining!! Nearly convinced me to go and buy this dam car!! Then i remembered and looked at the badge! Hyundai??? WTF
Dear CNET, please note that the Equus has ALWAYS used a unique badge since its first release a decade(?) ago. Not sure exactly, but when I visited Korea during the 2002 World Cup, I saw many Equus.
@matrixloader Its a Hyundai 8 speed automatic, not a ZF. One of only 4 manufacturers that have the know-how and skills to make their own 8 speed automatic transmission.
Here we are May 2020, and yup,! I purchased a 2014 Equus Top model fully loaded exec line for 14k and only 43k miles. It's my new daily driver for work commuting. Near Seattle so this is great to relax during the crappy rush hour traffic we have that lasts all day for some reason. One owner, garaged, serviced at Hyundai along to the owners manual. Everything done right. I straight piped it and removed nearly 100 lbs in mufflers, resonators etc. Kept the cats so it will run correctly. Installed Genesis sedan R spec lowering springs, and got it tuned in Bothell WA. She's putting 389 HP to the wheels now. So far I'm loving my Hot Rod Equus. Only one I'm sure in all N America that has mods done to it like I did. Was considering a K900 , I prefer the way that looks but I went old school with 1st Gen Equus.
@jxtsful even with a drop of 24 percent toyota still sold about 111,000 vehicles in june and hyundai sold 59,000. in 2010 Toyota (Includes Scion) - Down 0.6 percent to 1,534,266 and in 2010 Hyundai - Up 24 percent to 538,228 thats a million car difference a lot
Absolutely gorgeous luxury saloon. The badging is of the winged horse 🐎, the Pegasus. Reliability is of paramount importance to me, something that no German car can ever deliver at any price point, at least not since the 1980's. Ravi Peiris M.D.
@blazecyberman totally agree, hyundai has been doing great, sonata, accent, genesis, elantra and the new veloster hyundai has improve dramatically in recent years. But with the Equus i think Hyundai is pushing it too far i dont believe many people are willing to pay 60k$ for a hyundai when they can show off in a BMW,Mercedes,Lexus etc for that kind of money. The most importan reason people buy those brand i mentioned is for show off and for 60k$ you can show off in other premium brands instead.
I don't know if the equus has been updated since this video was made, but if you go on the hyundai website it says that it has 429 horsepower, and an 8 speed automatic transmission! So there is a chance that it is even better now than it was in this video!
good review, car seems like a great buy. too bad about that reclining rear seat. idea seems awesome, but implementation isn't so great. if only that front seat could tumble more out of the way.
@jxtsful what was i crying about or hating on. i was saying are you getting a better engineered better overall car from a lexus mercedes etc or is it just a name badge for the added price over the equus. i was saying are the other cars over priced for what you get or are they realy better. or is this the ultimate car options and price i dont know why the hell you said i was crying. i was also saying look how many options you get on a basic car these days its crazy
Hyundai is taking a different path. Unlike Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura, Ford/Lincoln. I think they want to establish themselves as a Full Range Brand which would technically allow them to dominate the entire industry. Due to the fact that one brand/name caters to all customers/incomes
You should see the face of a BMW owner after being owned by a Hyundai. I almost felt sorry for the guy. Its like reality, frustration and stupidity hit him at the same time, I think he may have thew up.
also go and compare it to the Audi A7 and A8. in order for the power delivery to be extremely smooth in a very heavy car (which is most luxury sedans) you need a high amount of torque. horsepower is the raw power produced by the engine and supplied to the wheels. torque is rotational power applied. for these cars you need high torque at relatively low RPMs to have smooth delivery. the Equus has 376 ft-lbs. @ 5000 rpm...what kind of luxury car would be revving to 5000 RPM exactly?
Nice but both Hyundai and kia are brands that scare me. Both have had issues with the 10 year warranty when it comes to honoring it. Also quality over time as some of these cars tend to go brittle.
@GMT4ful THe equus is really their first luxury car even though this is its older sister to the 2011 version but all they did was put in a better engine and little mods to the interior. First time things rarely beats competitors. I'm not saying they won't ever im just saying not right now.
Hyundai EQUUS looks like a mix of honda, lexus, lincoln, buick, and even bmw !!!!! Do u ever get such hell of a car hyundai!!!!!! Way to go hyundai!!!!
like what? other than nightvision, a little bigger from the inside, I'm talking about the 2013 s-class with the base price so don't compare it to a full version which would costs you $140k+
@yoyoluc, Haha.uuh no! I own a 2011 E550 and upon driving the Equus, I was extremely impressed. It's going to set a whole new standard and give value a new meaning. As a Mercedes owner for years, I'm ready to trade it in to jump into this very fine automobile that not everyone and their grandmas have. It's the worst feeling when everyone around you drives the same damn car. Hence, Mercedes in a high end area. So unoriginal. Most people who make ignorant comments about Hyundai never even drove it
@Nexumbiker110 Yes of course I also think a 7 Series or a Maybach is better than a Equus, but comparing a freacking 3 or 5 series or a C class with an Equus is moronic. Well I have driven a Honda fit very fun to drive too so whats ur point? :D
Overall, I love this car, I do agree with the critic in that the car truly is meant for short people. The critic looks like hes about 5'8 and he can barely use the backseat footrest, can you imagine if a 6'2 guy like me tried sitting in there? And the fact that the navigator screen isn't touch was also a minor flaw, but still nice regardless
