Thanks for posting this. I just replaced plugs with my son on his 2015 Genesis Coupe 3.8. Your simple advice laid out our plan of attack and it went great.

Which spark plugs did you go with?

I always go with performance or oe plugs. In this case I believe if i remember right was a NGK double platinum with a center electrode but its been a little while now.

I just replaced my plugs on my genesis coupe 3.8 & as I started the car, it began to tremble & it started idling strange, then the check engine came on. Any idea on why this would happen?

Double check the connections for ign coils and assembly of intake and throttle body

Would bad spark plugs make your check engine come on and make your engine tremble a little in idle. My 2010 3.8 gen coupe check engine just came on.

Jose Garcia it could, but you need to find out which codes are set. If you have a random misfire code then spark plugs would be your starting point. According to forums, in colder climates. The genesis 3.8l is known for ignition coils going bad.

I actually had my engine light come on today. I’m worried cuz I did rip it on the on ramp and there was a bump in the road and it made me lose traction for a moment. Might of ripped it a bit too hard. But the light didn’t come on until I almost got home. And I had it tested earlier that day and the codes came back for a bad o2 sensor the switch was getting stuck and they recommended a fuel clean. I was thinking it could be the spark plugs because I’ve had some starting problems. But that could be because of the battery. And I’m guessing the light could be for the o2 sensor. I’ll get it tested again tomorrow. Hopefully it’s just the o2 again. I just bought it and got it plated. It’s my first day really driving it around. I noticed off the rip the battery wasn’t holding charge but the alternator charges no problem. We just added water to the battery because it was low and it started maintaining a charge a lot better. Let me know if you have any experience with those problems. Kind of have some trouble cold starting. It’s real slow like it doesn’t wanna turn over.

How many gaskets did you have to replace?

All the gaskets are technically reusable per the manufacturer. Mine were in good condition and there no coolant running through the intake on this design, so in my case none. But i had the plenum and throttle body gasket ready in case I need them.

Worst design i seen out of many engines. Strange hyundai did this so complicated. Dont know why they did this to a side instead of the front. It dont look right ether. I give the designers a good F for that.
