I RIPPED OFF A 6.11 0 TO 60 TIME IN MY 2009 SONATA 3.3 V6 249 HP. DRAGY VERIFIED AND 2.0 SECOND 60 FT TIME AT 35 MPH. 91 OCTANE AND ALL STOCK EXCEPT FOR FIRESTONE FIREHAWK TIRES. RAN A 14.8 @98MPH QTR MILE THEN A 9.2 SECOND EIGHTH MILE AT 78.88 !!! SERIOUS SLEEPER CARS!!!

I've always been a Honda fan (owned 2) but you can't argue with the numbers on this car, and now that Hyundai's fit and finish and reliability are prettymuch up to par, I think it's great!! I say major kudos to them. Might get one of these.

@GalmTeamLeader I can agree with you on Performance, but keep in mind: performance doesn't sell cars in the mid-sized family sedan market. Not when gas is $3.00 a gallon and the credit crunch is forcing more and more Americans into used cars. Ultimately you just want to sell as many cars as you can. The 200HP Sonata SE is no slouch at $20,000. This 2.0T is a decent option for the $4000 more. Hyundai has a lineup of fuel efficient, inexpensive cars that no other car maker has.

2 facts, 1. Hyundai's are quality cars and 2. People are ignorant. So if you like Hyundai's and hate the face that ignorant (obviously not up-to-date car people) people hate on them, then unless Hyundai changes it's name, you're just going to have to brush it off your shoulders. They have come a LONG way in the past 10 years+ and that's an understatement.

For those who do not like the design, have you seen an SE model in person? I have an SE Turbo model and I love the looks of it. It has been turning heads surprisingly. I think the car looks really weird in pictures and videos for some reason but they look amazing on the road. I am loving the car by the way.

I don't drive a Hyundai, nor do I plan to buy 1 in the near future, but the numbers great looks great for a car at this price range.

@valkyrieXX what I meant was there is no torque steer in the sonata. they didnt want it to be a handfull like the speed3 is. The Sonata is aimed at an older crowd that would probably hate the way the Speed3 behaves in 1st and 2nd gear under full throttle

it is a surprise that seeing few comments saying I don't like this design. For me, personally its the best design for any family sedan on the planet. but I respect a different point of view from a different person. I found that there is no such a design in car satisfying everyone no matter how much a car is. But people tend to not dislike a design on a car if the car is unaffordably expensive. true?

@heatfullrat Inline four. V4s were back in like the 70s. It has to do with the arrangement of the cylinders. Plus this has a turbo.

@yomonstruo Oh no it contains two twin scroll turbochargers, if I'm not mistaken. It's not an unheard of process, Ford has their own 4 cyl EcoBoost Engine, and I would think at one point GM had an Ecotec which was also GTDI.

Just test drove this car today with my Girlfriend and i was freaking stunned at how great of a car this is for the money. you just aren't going to find very many new cars with four cylinder engines that get up and go like this one. I'm seriously considering trading in my new altima

@banstaman ive been reading about the car,and yes,it is a 2 liter direct injection engine,but it seems to be turbo charged(only 1 turbo).there are very few 4 cylinder engines with two turbos..im not sure anyways,ive anyone knows for sure--

after 2012 Hyundai discontinued the 6 Speed Manual Transmission offering better options for the Automatic Hyundai saw no reason to continue offering the six-speed manual in the base GLS model that means the six-speed automatic transmission is now standard across the line. I find this car very beautiful don't hesitate to buy one worth every penny and 2.4L has VVT GDI engine making 200HP.

Now if only the genesis coupe 2.0t would get the same treatment as the Sonata turbo, an extra 64 hp would make the turbo genesis one hell of a buy

@10yroldcarlover 22.5k for this car or 29.6k for the Musttang GT, both 2011. I'd take the Mustang GT myself but some people just can't spare 7 grand. These cars are also geared towards two completely different markets and the insurance on the Mustang is definitely going to be higher.

I will say this... The Sonata 2.0T is probably the best 4 Cylinder car on the market. The VW GTI is cool but I'd take this instead.

@valkyrieXX in 1st and 2nd gear the torque numbers are different than what is posted due to torque steer. If you have ever driven a Mazdaspeed3 pre 2010 model torque steer is annoying as hell. This car was meant for semi-luxury and comfort. Comfort being the key word there. Im sure if tuners decide to get ahold of it though, things will change especially with that twin scroll turbine. I want one but I wouldnt mod it so I could keep the warranty. I already have a fun car to beat on :P

@daehttub2000 - Someone doesn't watch Touring Car or Sport Compact drag racing.....the Ecotec 2.0L from GM is one of the quickest motors out there. Look at the VX220 Turbo, did 0-60 in 4 seconds, and that was from a 200hp turbo motor (Z20LET). The Cruze in the WTCC has been performing respectably against the Seat Leon TDi's and BMW's, not to mention in Sport Compact, it was the first motor to get a car into the 7's for the FWD class. But it does take overseas expertise to make good GM's. ;)

@sspope The GTI is better than the Golf R, but, this comes down to personal taste. The 2.0L GTI has 200HP compared to the 2.0L Golf with 140HP and the sonata has more power than the golf while the TURBO Sonata has more power than both. The Sonata wins.

okay at 74 hp more than the regular engine, I thought it's 0-60 was gonna be faster. Like upper 5 seconds range fast. Please tell me there's a stick model coming that will allow you to launch that turbo 4 cyl better.

@shonzy7 I think Quarter Mile times are stupid. No one can actually accelerate continuously for a quarter mile because they'd be doing over 100 miles per hour - an illegal speed. The most important times for me are 0 - 60, 60 - 0, and 30 - 0. I wanna know how fast a car can decelerate when your doing low speeds on a regular street.

Hyundai is definitely getting some design cues off other manufacturers, but Hyundai one ups them with value and quality.

@siamiam Many variables yes but if you're on a dry level track then you will find very similar results and in this case the conditions were similar and they got very different results. A six foot difference is significant which maybe we can conclude that Insideline takes the best result and MotorTrend averages but I'm not even sure.

This thing should do mid13's 1/4 mile with the re flash and 340hp 350tq which costs only 600 bucks, best car for the price after the Kia optima turbo, try those hp numbers with another competitor...

Yes couldnt agree with U more. Same goes for the Kia models:) The Hyundai Sonata really looks like some of the Lexus models..lol. The Kia models that I really like are the Serento SUV & the Kia Optima:) Personally for me I think the inside of the Sonata looks better than the Optima. But overall Sporty look the Optima looks better on the outside:) I bought a Brand new Hyundai Elantra Limited:) Compact car of the year in2011&2012:)

MotorTrend got 126 0-60 that is interesting. Maybe the difference is that one uses the average and another using the worst braking time.

im a big hyundai fan... but this time im a little disappointed.... considering all the momentum hyundai have been generating.. i was expecting sub 6 secs to 60 and low 14s... Still considering trading in my speed6 for it though...

Good trap speed maybe with a better launch low 14s would be possible, not bad for a car that gets good gas mileage.....a few mods and should run 13's.

An continuing: Nissan= A brand owned by Renault (otherwise they might not exist by now), making cars based on Samsung Motors models and using Renault technology. At least they still have acceptable models, most of the good models are sold for Europe and Latin America. Mazda = Well, still worthy if you look at the product vs price, however it is always on the high prices with better competitors to look at, like European cars. Besides that, they are not famous for fuel efficiency.

Why are people comparing speed times on this car? It's a small turbo engine in a mid sized car. Realize something here. If this engine was in a civic or any other small light car it would get 38-40mpg with 278hp 269tq and do it on mid grade gas!!!! Please tell me who else can say that???? The news is that this little power plant can at least compete with v6s. I'm not sure why this wasn't up for engine of the year in it's class.

14.6 sec 1/4 mile is pretty good for a $20k 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine. Some big V8 cars cant pull that off!

It corners much flatter than I was expecting. And wow, less than 7 secs to 60 with a 2.0T on a body that big? If it's still as comfortable as Hyundai usually are... And reliable... GM??? Come on wake up!!! Can't fight this with the bloody Cruze we need a new Impala come on!!! (However got to say the shape of this Sonata is still not a thrill... Not ugly but... Anonimous)

Nice! Hyundai has come a long way from the 1.6L in the Hyundai Pony/Excel. Looks like Hyundai's short stint in the World Rally Championship series really paid off with a sweet 2.0T. Time for GM to drag it's fat ass to a real race circuit a learn a thing or two from Ford's time in the WRC. Until GM gets there, its small cars will always be rubbish...

@joewannabe1 Actually the Sonata looks very similar to the Lexus models(dont know the model name).I actually saw a Lexus&it looked exactly like the Sonata but it was a Lexus..lol.Hyundai by far has changed their looks out of all the car brands out there.Really impressed of the inside&outside looks of their cars:)I rented a Sonata&loved driving that car.I recently bought a Brand new Elantra LIMITED&really LUV that car:)Dont have a bad thing2say about the car or any car from Hyundai=)

@shonzy7 Then you need a RWD car with summer tires and this much HP. Who the hell would want to drive a Front Wheel Drive Car? They'll never be sporty. Neither will AWD. Even the Buggati Veyron Supersport, the most powerful car in the universe can't be driven on a track without: a) the brakes overheating and failing b) sliding off curves and into the ditch The Genesis Coupe might be more to your liking :)
