Normally when someone removes their shifter knob it is to replace it and not just to stick it back on. It would be good to show how to get the boot off and install it on the new shift knob. That would certainly be a critical part of this procedure. A small flat head screwdriver and push the tabs on both sides of the boot flange inward then gently remove it. It can then slide on the new knob. Make sure you push it all the way in until it clicks and catches. Then reinstall the knob like shown.
Thank you for this!! I had to replace an Elantra 2014 knob and couldn't find much information as it has the retaining clips from underneath. Key was prying around the boot tabs to pull it out.
Hey I have a Hyundai azera 2015 with the same shift knob so far I took the leather part off like you did and pulled it didn't come off. The knob I opened up to and no go how hard do I have to pull and to see if I modify it for something after market if I can keep the leather part I will or use all new systems.
That's what I'm talkin' bout! I'm having a problem with the system not recognizing my car is in park. When I shut the engine off, my accessories stay on, and the display on my dash says "Shift to P". So I can't lock my doors with the remote entry key because the system think the car is in drive or neutral. I see in the Hyundai forums that it's probably an issue with the gear shift. Now I can take that knob off and check it out. Thanks!
Can you tell, the button that’s on the shift knob, is it also on that stick? If I were to put any after market shift knob with no button or button on the side, would that work??
Its a pain in the ass. Need to remove the whole thing. Under is a big plastic clip attached to the leather with 2 tabs you have to push in to get off. I almost destroyed the clip but still works
