2011 Lexus LS460 L Start Up, Engine, and In Depth Tour 

I just started a job at Toyota and had to drive one of these on a test drive to ensure a repair holds up. Literally the very first time driving one. I probably have never driven a smoother car in my life. Just about defines driving on a cloud. Definitely on my list to purchase now.

Damn it looks practically new. These older generation Lexus are just phenomenal in terms of reliability and longevity. The "thump" sound when you close the door. It's so quiet, sometimes i have to rev the engine to check if the car is running.

I've got a soft spot in my heart for big sedans.

Amazing value on the used market now.

This is exactly the dealership where my ‘97 LS400 came from when new!

I drove this car it feels like heaven the wind noise is not existent the suspension is amazing you won't feel bumps on the road the steering is very smooth its a place that you can retreat to.

I used to drive a 1990 LS400. Steering was smooth. It turned like butter.

The LS is under the super luxury class. They're both full size, but the RLX would be competing with the GS. I wouldn't say the MDX is putting Lexus or BMW to shame. The RX350 or X3 are amazing SUV's and overall consumers and critics have preferred the RX than the MDX. The LS has been the noted to have one of the finest interior, quality build, and amazing comfort in its class.

@MrThingamagig I also like how he doesn't express any bias or negativity towards certain brands. All of his reviews are very neutral, yet very informative. They make for a great buying intro to a car, which saves a lot of time. I've used his videos countless times to gather more info about certain cars that I was considering of buying. Sometimes I actually referenced Kyle's overview to see what was missing or wrong with the car I looked at.

awesome car and review as always. I've always liked the styling of the LS's over the years but all the fancy gadgets in the new generation ones kill it for me, i'm too simple for this, but the 2006 and older ones are perfect bc they were pretty luxurious themselves, but were still easier to get used to.

Kyle, are there many of these in your area? I've been looking in Texas for months for one of these and cant hardly find a clean one that hasnt been wrecked. I'm 6'8 and this is just about the only car I can fit into lol.

Do people have actually ridden in one of these? Don't complain if you have not, I did last week it was my colleague's, It's absolutely astonishing! the leather is so silky and the insulation is top notch!

@datboiwes333 Infiniti did have the Q45 from 1990 until 2006 that competed with this but they discontinued it b/c of slow sales. As for Acura, I don't ever recall Honda in general ever making V8 engines for any of their cars, although their top of the line RL which has a V6 does get comparable gas mileage to the V8 base LS, S-class, and 7-series.

This is the first LS460L I have seen that does not have the switch for the air suspension. Thought all the "L" models had air suspension.

Sorry, I meant X5. Thanks for correcting me. It may be faster, but when I text drove it, it was a bit of a rough ride. The RX350 has been noted to be extremely reliable; one of the most reliable SUV's on the market. It may not be as sporty, but it's comfort and interior quality is just outstanding. I prefer a comfortable, plush, luxurious ride over sport, especially in an SUV. It really comes down to a matter of opinion. I'm not saying Acura is bad, it's just a bit boring and behind others.

I didn't compare a buick to a lexus. I compared it to a pontiac. However, buicks are extremely nice vehicles. I'd say they're just as good as a lexus as far as reliability and quality go. You can't go wrong with a buick.

Right. It's just like Lincoln and Ford...Cadillac or Buick and GM. My daughter just turned 16. We bought her a 2007 Buick Rendezvous. It's also pretty nice. Heated seats, navigation, steering wheel mounted controls, dual climate control, sunroof, AWD. We paid $17,000 for it, where as you could get a similar Pontiak Azteck for less than half that.

The L in the 460L means long. Considering that it is a luxury car.

Are the self-closing doors and folding/unfolding mirrors on start/stop both standard features on all 2011 Lexus LS 460 models or only on the LS 460 L model?

I have this car except mine is a AWD and has a few more options in the rear seat to really make my passengers comfortable

Wow... That's a lot of car!! I drive an 02' Volvo S40 T4 and just bought my girlfriend an 03' Lexus GS300 and i thought they were well equipped!! Boy was I wrong!! lexus is such a nicce car they have always been very luxurious but not as complicated as all of its euro competitors what a nice car. It may not be as nice looking as a 7 series or s class but stil very nice but the only thing that i would want it to do is have a blindspot system and it would be my favorite.

By the way the manual shifting mode is not actually you telling the car what gear to be in. It is the maximum gear at which the car can go into. like on other automatic cars that have numbers below the ''D''. I know this because I have one.

You do good work, but the ticking from the injectors is quite noticable. My 97 RL does not make that much noise.

@Xboxlivemgear Actually, alot of cars still have mechanically-activated handbrakes. The force you apply on the lever is the force applied on the cable. On newer and more expensive cars, however, when you press on the button, an electric motor pulls on the cable. The more complex "AUTO" handbrakes are controlled by computer, with sensors that easily go faulty; either seizing or even disengaging the brake when unwanted. My friend fixed a BMW with such a system and said it was a f***ing pain.

@Lexuslover123 You are claiming you've been inside of Equus and saying that the door panesls and the dash board are all made of plastic? Wow!! I don't know where to begin... Well Kyle did a review here on Equus and he says "the door Panels and dash board are all covered in soft to touch Stiched leather." NOT plastic. And he further said "the head liner is made of Alcantara suede." I know image and prestige matter in this segment and I understand where all the fuss is all about but

@ratmtbola I was anticipating that comeback........... well you just wait. The next LS will have a great interior. Have you seen the CT's or the GS concepts? Those arent top of the line but they are fantastic!
