The 2010 Ohio All-State Orchestra is comprised of the top ranked string players from five regional orchestras throughout the state. The wind and percussion players are selected through a recorded audition process and distilled from the pool of players applying for band and orchestra. Students
in grades 9-12 are eligible for the Ohio All-State Orchestra. Nearly 100 students are chosen for the orchestra from a pool of about 800 players. All-State concerts in Ohio are performed in a convention center ballroom, adjusted for a concert performance as much as possible.
Robert D. McCashin is Director of Orchestras and Professor of Conducting at James Madison University. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in violin performance from Louisiana State University, and a doctorate in conducting from the University of Arizona. After several years as a teacher and performer, he has pursued a successful path as a conductor for groups ranging from professional regional orchestras to university orchestras, youth orchestras, and state and regional honors orchestras at the junior and senior high school level. Dr. McCashin's expertise in conducting pedagogy and violin performance physiology has allowed him to participate in numerous seminars, master classes, and presentations throughout the nation. In addition, he has arranged an impressive number of orchestral arrangements for string orchestra.
