@@eloquent-nuance any time . I agree 350 to 400$ each is outrageous but the fact that we can do it our self is like sticking it to the dealer . That’s how I looked at it . Hope that helps and good luck … 👍🏼
I was having issues locking the driver door. It would half lock then unlock on it's own. The motor I bought had no slot on the shaft, but it was nothing a file and some time couldn't fix. Saved a good chunk of change because of this video, much appreciated.
Easily one of the best repair videos I've seen on youtube--showed all steps, gave close ups of important details/small parts, and described what you were doing. Nice work, and thanks for sharing.
Tony! Thanks a million sir for making this video. I had problems with my back 2 doors on my 06 Tacoma and thanks to you I went ahead and just replaced all the motors. It was much easier than I thought and took about an hour to do them all. I really appreciate you making this video. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Tony, Thank you for your video. after watching other videos I was scared to attempt making the repairs myself. after watching your video I decided to give it a try and have successfully fixed two out of three doors that needed to be replaced. You need to create a different video for the front doors. if you haven't already... Thanks again. you've saved me a $1000 so far. Tomorrow I finish.
Nice video! Just went through this process on my 2004 4-Runner. Rather than replacing the motor, I disassembled the casing from the motor and cleaned the contacts with some brake cleaner and compressed air as a good amount of residue had built up over the years. Lightly coated moving parts with WD-40 with fingertips. You can try testing on a 9volt battery before reassembling to see if the motor functions properly. Good as new.
You did great! Lots of good information for me as I have to do the same on a 98 camry. This is the 10th vid I watched on this procedure and probably the best!!!
Thanks for the awesome video! I just ordered a motor from ebay and will attempt next week. Went do the dealer and they only sell the entire door lock actuator assembly for over $300.00. What a rip off!
Thank you for an outstanding video. I took my door panel off this past weekend( with no small difficulty) and upon seeing that the rear door opened with a motor and not mechanically was ready to pay to have it fixed. When I got to the point of the video that mentioned the child safety lock I realized I’m a big dumb animal. The door opens just fine from the inside now. Aside from that. You really made a thorough, easy to follow, directorial. Thank you. Now if you only made one for my rear window not going up. Goes down just fine from the rear passenger seat, but only goes up from the drivers door control. Again. GREAT JOB!! Thanks
Tony thnk U so much for the help. This video saved me around $655 just for one side door so your video is worth a lot. For the record my car is a Toyota venza 2013 and the actuator is the same on the highlander's model so is not a bid deal. The motor is flat shaft standard
Thank you so much for the video helped me a lot I disassembled the mechanism thanks to you I have Yaris 2012 and it's the same mechanism I did not buy a new engine I renovated what was already inside There was a lot of dirt I just cleaned with carburetor spray And everything went back to work as usual Thank you very much very much without your video I would not have been able to disassemble the mechanism and return it to its original state
I open up my 2013 tacoma door lock actuator. Wow it's a little bit more to it then your video shows. It looks like about the same size motor with the long shaft.
Hi Tony! Just wanted to say "Thank You" for the great video. Did this today on my son's 2012 Tacoma with 85K on it, and the new motors work like a charm! Why pay $350 + labor (per door) when it can be done for about $5 per door, with a little sweat-equity! Got my motors on Amazon in 2 days, and back-in-business! Really appreciate your comprehensive video and especially your "things to watch out for" for a successful install. Many thanks and keep up the amazing work!
Cool - I found these on Amazon for $24.00 for a 4 Pack - 20mm D Flat Shaft Central Door Lock Actuator Motor FC-280PC-22125, Long D Spindle, Power Locking Repair Engine - I have a 2010 Taco and 3 out of 4 are out. Toyota should issue a recall. Thanks for your video. I watched other videos that didn't make me want to attempt it. I will try this weekend thanks to Amazon Prime.
Tony I replaced a 2007 Tacoma Driverside door lock just a Tad different but otherwise just about the same procedure. Thanks for saving me al that Money!!1 One day I will make a video about things I do and learn on here but Again Awsome!!!
Rene Sanchez Glad I was able to help . Yes it would have cost me $ 2100.oo to change them all . Best of luck Tony . Hope you clicked on the like button.
yes that was how it all started. Fist the passenger door would not open with the remote and other doors followed ...replaced the battery in the remore and had same problem ...Did some research abd and replaced Actuator motors and have had no problems since .
awesome video instruction. My 2011 Tacoma has a different symptom. The doors lock but the manual lever on the drivers side does not move. In other words, if I use the fob to lock the doors, they lock. But the door lever never moves. I can move the lever back and forth but the actuator won't move it. I removed the door panel and the linkage is connected to the lever. I haven't checked it at the actuator though.
Be very careful when you split the case, real slow otherwise your day just became a lot harder. I removed the lower window frame vs working around it, only a minute and two 10mm bolts. I kept strict control of the top cover when unlatching the clips. Also, you do not need to remove the cables from the door handle, remove Phillips screw, slide door handle assembly back and remove all as one unit. With the rear lower window frame removed, much easier to work inside the door. Great video, will get you success
Bob , Thanks for the commets greatly appreciated. That was my fist time video and doing the repair .Your added in site and comment will help orthers . Thanks Tony
Thanks for the compliments. Glad i eas able to save you 400 to,500$ per door..Plan on doing one shortly for replacing the HAVC Blower motor under the glove compartment.. Look for it soon if need .
Thanks Tony, very helpful! Is there a way to test the old motor after you pull it out of the actuator to make sure it is actually broken? I'm still troubleshooting my door lock problem, so it would be great if I could test the motor outside of the actuator somehow. Thanks again!
sorry to hear about what happened ..th only thing i would try would be to try to get part from a junk yard ...you could go pull the part yourself and pay less than half of what the dealer is charging. good luck
Worked great for me! About $45 in parts and tools from Amazon. 1.5 hours labor. Be very careful with the clamshell, it is a pain to get fully open, plenty of opportunity for error on that portion. Thanks for the video!
great good luck , if you are doing the front doors the door handles attachment is a little different it will have a room that goes threw a hole vs the bar (meta)that goes up between the plastic to open the door ...also make sure the windows are up if not try will get in the way ...
Tony, that is the best how to video I've seen. Thanks for taking the time to make it. It is so good I hate to admit I'm having an issue. The whole process went great. Our issue is the lock we've replaced the motor on is now reversed from the other three. Seems like we've triple checked everything. We can't get the lock to sync up with the rest. Any ideas?
Glad to hear you liked the video. I jave not heard of this problem only because the motor can only go in 1 way. So you might try these 2 things . #1. Take the battery out of the remote this might reset. #2. Disconnect the car battery this too might also reset thr system ... here is my e-mail if needed. Ajmsports711@gmail. Good luck .
@@tonymanriquez4796 Thanks for taking the time to give us some hints. I had an idea it was the replacement motors I had got from Amazon. I ended up cleaning the old motor and it worked. So while the new motors fit and did work the lock, everything was opposite.
I tried this on my driver side door yesterday and shut the door before fully testing. Now the door won't unlock. I have tried the lever inside the door but it won't open. I have read a few posts where people have had to destroy the actuator to get the door open. I have ordered a new actuator unit but want to make sure I do not damage anything else in the process. Do you have any ideas about this?
Hey .sorry to hear that ,you are the 2nd person I have heard this from in a month..First i would check with your local junk yard .it will be half the price or less. Unfortunately that is the only way to get the Actuator off .Make sure you disconnect as much as possible before going to town on getying it out ...Sorry. ans good luck .
Tony Manriquez yep haha ive already been through all the comments and various scenarios ! You can actually test the door without closing it by actuating the locking clasp with the door open using a screwdriver and then you lock it , pull up on the exterior handle and see if it unlocks , all with the door still open .
So... my driver front actuator is completly diffrent with two steel conecting linkages , i got the clamshell out and its "hinged " started to take it apart , things got to moving around , i got scared and reinstalled it haha works fine . The rear actuators are like the ones shown in youre video . Did you run into this ?
Travis Erlston are you working on a 2011 driver side? If so please let me know your progress. I need to fix mine and I am curious on motor size and if it is similar to the others.
Jeff Abbott the front motor housings are completely diffrent from the back , and look a bit more complicated , there are internals that need to be removed when the clamshell is opened , the video i found on those looks a bit more complicated than i was comfortable with so i ordered replacement parts from amazon and will replace the whole unit on either side . The backs were exactly like this video and went very smoothly .
I have a Toyota Corolla 97 sprayed WD-40 on all 4 doors on the actuator in and out looks like it worked I think the wires were getting rusted 2 doors we're giving me problems
I have 2002 Toyota Sienna CE. Normally, after opening driver door, I unlock or lock for other doors just using the unlock and lock button from driver’s door. Now it doesn’t work that way. I have to unlock or lock manually each door. I have fobs but don’t work as well. Would you mind to tell me what’s wrong. Thank you very much.
That is the same way that it started with my doors ...started with 1 then 2 and So on .went to Dealer and quoted me 2,400.oo$ .So by what you are telling me thats is what your problem is .only thing I can say is take your time and try the lock befor you close the door .if you close door and it does not work then you are really screwed. Where are you located ? Good luck
Tony, How did you know it was the motor that needed to be replaced? I have a 2006 Tacoma. Three doors are not unlocking. When I push the button on the key fob or the button on the door to lock or unllock, I can hear something moving but the doors do not unlock every time. They unlock/lock occasionally but not every time. Any idea what I might have wrong? I hope my fix is as easy as what you have done. The dealership has quoted me $1,600 to fix the three doors. Thank you for the video and any help you can give at all.
tyler allen I have the exact same issue with the same year Tacoma where only the driver side front door would work. When I took it in to a Toyota dealership they found the issue to be bad actuators instead of a master switch failure. Hope this helps!
A question I have the same procedure with the driver's door and the back driver of the driver when I finished I try the test and when I pressed open, close when you close the closing the other two doors on the opposite side operate normal
Hi I need one for a 2009 Tacoma. Not sure what part number since there are so many different choices on eBay and amazon. Anyone have a part number? thank you
Hey Tony, great video. I have a question, where did you buy the motor replacement? and do you have the exact part number? I have seen some FC-280PC-22125 on ebay, but they seem to have a shorter pin than the one on your video? any help will be appreciated... Thanks!
Found the flat 20mm shaft ones here: www.ebay.com/itm/Mabuchi-Nichibo-Door-Lock-Motor-Short-Long-Flat-D-Round-Collar-FC280PC22125-/111198111739?var=&hash=item19e3ec87fb:m:mETANqFNBgmy6A7-sXogfPg
Tony, Any Clue if the Gen3 Tacomas have the same door lock actuator? I have a 2016 door lock actuator that just failed. I'd love to be able to do this repair.
I think that they are all the same ! It’s best to know just by checking on line . It’s one of 2 types 20mm “D” shaft or round shaft. It also could be 10mm round or “D” shaft . I would bet it is the 20mm “D”shaft . And you could just order the both 20 mm and 10 mm and just return
Hey Tony great video! I have a 2012 Tacoma and all of the locks work fine except for one rear door that will unlock (with the electric lock) but will not lock unless I manually flip the lock on that door. Do you think this would be a motor issue since the motor works to unlock and just not to lock? Any thoughts you might have would be appreciated, thanks. Matt
Hello Mike , Funny you should mention that .That is the same way that mine started .I could unlock it with the remote but, had to manually lock by the lever when ever I left the truck .After time it would not work at all by the remote .
The motor I found eas on Ebay .. Machubichi 20mm long shaft .it looks like the lettr D on the end of the shaft .( not round) also called long D spindle
Wow. I have a 2013 venza with this issue. Just paid 1100 at the stealership for 2 doors to fix. They replaced the whole actuator on each door. Had I just done that myself the parts would have only been 450. $6 if I had gone your way. Ugh!
Please tell me where did you buy car door Loc motors online? What’s part to fit for 2002 Toyota Sienna CE? I looked around, but I am still not sure. Thank you very much.
Hi Tony, It’s not the handle that’s the problem, I can move that up and down from inside the compartment. It’s the lock or safety lock that’s the problem.
What about the cables going to the switch that locks and unlocks . If you follow that down to the clam chill you should be able to manually unlock the actuator.
06 Tacoma my door unlock but don't lock using remote or if I use the key. Did the broken motor you replace cause the same problem i am experiencing in your vehicle?
Les Sprott Here you go ..I ordered from Zinky86.it was a 20mm flat shaft.. I think the part # is Fc280PC23125....if you have the same truck as I do it should look like the letter "D" on the end of the shaft.. Good luck ..
Should probably test the electronics prior to completely re-installing in case it didn't work, don't want to have to redo all that work again case the motor was bad or miss connected.
MrElviejito to be honest I am not sure if it would be the same. I would think so because they don't use a lot of different actuators but no guarantee that it would be the same. best thing to do would be to call the dealer to see if it's the same style if not it has to be a slight variation but the motors would be the same. please let me know what you find out
it would still be beneficial to take the door apart and check all cables going to the lock mechanism. one end could e broken or disconnected. and some times the moter gears are stripped..
@@tonymanriquez4796 I fixed it by removing the window trim from the outside, and sticking a long thin flathead to manually reset the release latch for the outside door handle in order to open the door and finally remove the door panel.
Hello i have a 2011 tacoma toyota and the back left door locks and opens from the outside but not from the inside , do you have any idea what the issue could be?
Did you change the actuator motor and this way it’s happening or did it just start happening. It could be your child safety lock if it got flipped by accident I would check that first. Or if you did change the actuator motor, you might not have attached all the components.
I had a faulty computer that fried all of my motors. Replaced the computer, replaced all 4 of the motors. The motors work now, but my back right door is permanently locked now. I can't open it from the inside or outside handle. Reached inside and tried moving the lever by hand, it moves but the door is still locked shut. Anyone have an idea on how to open the door? I'm guessing the latch in the metal portion of the actuator is stuck or something moved when I put the clamshell back together.
This happened to me . The only way to fix the problem is to remove the door from the hinges and remove the inside panel (unless it is off already) the you can get to the latch and open the door . You would be better with 2 people but I did it by myself (it’s hard )
I just took my wife 2011 Tacoma Pre-Runner and was quoted $125 for a check the $600 a door in Hawaii. So yeah Servco Toyota Hawaii wanted to charge me close to $3000 for all.
Yes that’s what it was here also in San Diego . If you got the time it is well worth doing . Just remember when opening the clam shell where the motor is be careful also to give it a try before closing the door .
Finally replaced mine.. now locks and unlocks as it should .. fun intriguing parts felt out off place and was Total Mess putting back together. Used this vídeos to guide myself also used my knowledge.. of you every have problems putting it back . Hit me up 🤙
zedek morenu send me your email and I will send you the link...mine is Ajmsports711@gmail.com ..actually here it is . look on EBay under Genuine Manuchi 20mm Long shaft door Actuator lock motor ..a get will come up ...they are about 14$ for pack of 4...goid luck
