@dahighbar out of the five you can have to be sent to the Olympics she would be the one of the three. Aly Raismann is VERY inconsistent on bars and maroney does not have the difficulty and is not as practiced. Gabby, Liukin and Wieber would all have difficulty and out of those three, only Wieber really lacks the consistency since she had a mistake in this competition and almost the same mistake (although in a different part of her routine) in Worlds AA

I'm gunna be honest, I disagree with how you guys judge the nbc commentators, but I kinda like them. back in the 90s, they dissected each move a gymnast did. they described each move. however they did change over the years and that part did go away and they did a different type of commentating. but each set of commentators are different. take BBC, they go right into the routine and nbc partially does that. all commentating is different. that is all I'm gunna say here

Olivia Lewis I like Bart Conners and Kathy Johnson. They are not biased toward Americans. They always acknowledge who is spectucular, regardless of their Nationality. The American commentators lost their credibility when they were relentless in their support of P Hamm.

I go to NBC for the gossip, the rest of the time I prefer BBC. They point out mistakes without sounding too negative, they don't hate every single non-British gymnasts, and they show other countries besides the Americans and whoever is chasing silver at the moment! And to be honest, with USA's Soviet Syndrome, things can get boring pretty quickly. I miss the good old days when there were no certain winners.

@makemeupforever99 Shawn would never be better on beam than Raisman in this COP. You need more than just difficult acrobatics. In the US, you don't go anywhere on beam without D level dance elements, and she doesn't have any and can't do any. Raisman has hard acro and hard dance elements, even if they're horribly performed.
@NF101wasntavailable
@NF101wasntavailable 12 лет назад
@BenTdragon21 I'd kick Raisman for Bross. Bross looked way better than she did in 2011 and this was in February. She's on track to be in her 2010 shape, and she really cleaned up that year with 2010 American Cup, 2010 Pac Rim, 2010 nationals along with the bars and beam title, 4 medals at worlds. Kyla Ross could also find herself on that team if Liukin doesn't pull through.
@NF101wasntavailable

@colourfullife Well, Cheng's obviously not doing Amanars at this moment in time. And Cheng never opened up quite like McKayla. She often was still twisting when she landed which likely weakened her knees resulting in her ACL tear. Anyone will tell you McKayla's Amanar is the best Amanar being done by a female gymnast.
@NF101wasntavailable

@bernardmvella Because Mustafina is Mustafina. She's at a level above Victoria in terms of mental toughness and consistency. Victoria's amazing, but is only one gymnast. With Mustafina, Komova, and possibly Grishina making their way on to the Olympic team, Russia will have a much greater chance for gold.
@NF101wasntavailable
@NF101wasntavailable 12 лет назад
@96horseluvr That's ridiculous. You should always put up your highest potential because you never know how the opposition will compete on any given day. Especially at world championships. Raisman is the most reliable gymnast and earned her spot in those lineups fair and square.

They're not judges! And thank god for that. They are just commentators. Bars is a weakness for Romania and USA to a lesser extent. It's a weakness for China? LOL in what world? China had 3 top bar workers on their team, Kexin, Jinnan and Qiushuang. They also left amazing bar orkers at home- Chungsong, Huidan, Peiru, Siqi. They have some amazing juniors too. Their weakness is vault! And floor. Maybe you should get your facts straight.
@gdogg2000
@gdogg2000 12 лет назад
Thats a huge misconception. It just so happens the US is doing alot better than most of the other teams.. if a team/person is good they will give them props. If they are just O.K. they will point that out too. If they didn't do well they would point that out as well. Everybody loves the BBC commentators but viewers are often confused because they say things like "Not an error really" and wonder why their scores are in the 13/14's.

Making the olympic team should be about talent, skill, and who can perform the best under pressure. Just because Nastia isn't one of the new girls doesn't mean she shouldn't make it. And just because they are new doesn't mean they should make it. However, Nastia hasn't competed all year and thats kinda tough during an olympic year. Shawn hasn't really performed well either, so I'm not quite sure.

But this is American TV, and the American women's team proved to be the best in the world this time. Following them and talking them up to an American audience is what I personally like sometimes, and makes sense when broadcast to the general public. Once they've got me I'll look up videos of other gymnasts online. I think sparking interest is the most important part of broadcasting to the general public in my opinion, I think this does that by leveraging the strength of the American team.
@128Ayana
@128Ayana 12 лет назад
That's not really true.Of course they'll speak highly of the Americans because that's whose watching them on this network, Americans.They're likely rooting for hometown girls. Plus they do often speak fondly of other gymnasts such as at the 2011 worlds they said Russia's Mustafina defined state of the art in gymnastics in 2010.We love our girls but also give credit where it is do, there are other good gymnasts and we respect that but for ratings they appear to their target audience, Americans.
@frogprinceling
@frogprinceling 12 лет назад
Ummmm....and? You're patriotic side must have ignored the point. If you're American, you have amazing gymnasts and I didn't say you didn't just that there are gymnasts that definitely equal and surpass them. Your commentators are rubbish though (main point of that comment) and very much over the top about how America is the best in the world and not giving any other gymnast who isn't American a chance, in their minds.
@ltrapani
@ltrapani 12 лет назад
Eh, Bross is still pretty shaky. We need a bar worker and shes taken a lot of falls. Raismans floor is insane, she'd vy for a medal in EF. I've never really taken to Bross's choreo. Ross looked incredible at Jesolo, I'd say she's very much in the hunt. Especially since she looks great on UB. But who do you leave home and let Ross go? I guess nastia....we haven't even seen her yet. ugh, this five-member rule sucks.
@BenTdragon21
@BenTdragon21 12 лет назад
@NF101wasntavailable I also agree with this assessment. Although Shawn's beam routine for the 2008 olympics was one of the hardest in the competition, it now lacks the artistry and dance elements needed to compete at the elite level. No doubt she is great at acrobatics, but her splits are awful and she has very few (if any at all) dance moves/leaps that have a higher than a C difficulty.
@BenTdragon21
@BenTdragon21 12 лет назад
@NF101wasntavailable If Bross is healthy and we see that through future competitions I would do the same. Bross has an awesome beam routine with a difficulty of at least a 6.2 as of 2010 and a wonderful uneven bars routine. She is capable of the amanar and she is awesome on floor. Overall, she is a great AAer just like Weiber - except since time has passed and Bross is recovering so close to olympic season, it will be hard to judge if she's recovered enough to earn a spot. Trials - we'll see.
@BenTdragon21
@BenTdragon21 12 лет назад
@artyowen92 I'm not sure I completely agree with this. Have you heard them gush over the chinese gymnasts on uneven bars and beam? It's almost as if they favor the chinese over the americans :P Of course they will not hesitate to point out a fall - but the nbc commentators will do that about any team (let us not forget Beijing when alicia fell in both beam and floor exercise). Conversely, when cheng fei fell on vault in the finals (and still won bronze).
@BenTdragon21
@BenTdragon21 12 лет назад
@96horseluvr I think anyone who has the skill level to compete should be considered and placed on a team if she's good enough. If Nastia is better than the other would-be "deserving" girls, then more power to her. If her beam and uneven bars is more graceful, fluid, difficult and most importantly, consistent, then she deserves it more than the person she took the spot from. My two cents :D
@96horseluvr
@96horseluvr 12 лет назад
here's my lineup for this TF: VT: raisman, wieber, maroney UB: vega, wieber, douglas BB: raisman, vega, wieber (vega has a nicer looking beam with more artistry, compared to raisman's UGLY beam set) FX: vega, maroney, wieber (again, vega has a gorgeous set with a fairly high difficulty level, and 100000 times more artistry that raisman. usa didn't need raisman's floor, they could have won with vega's instead) comment on what you think about this lineup!!!
@chloecrockkk
@chloecrockkk 12 лет назад
@96horseluvr does it matter if we cheer on out own team, it's not as if we don't show any other gymnasts at all? the commentators really don't matter, cause A they're not the judges, B their opinion doesn't count and C only people in Britain will really see it so who cares if they cheer on British gymnasts? And the 'false facts' was probably just a mistake? most commentators even if only slightly or not intentionally, favor their home team and you can't say nbc never do it, odds are they have.

I agree. I think my real problem with these commentators is that they tend not to actually commentate on the routines, unlike the BBC commentators. During most routines they're talking about something relevant, but not talking about the gymnast's skills, form, difficulty etc. You don't really *learn* from them as much as from the BBC commentators, for example.

Alicia Sacramone is undoubtedly a world-class athlete! Fab-5 is awesome but it would've been so much better if they included Sacramone even as an alternate. She totally deserves the spot for all her contribution and hard work. PLUS... She looks SOOO PRETTY with or without make up! BEAUTIFUL INSIDE OUT!!! ^^,)
@Huskyowner2007
@Huskyowner2007 12 лет назад
Yeah, I agreed! But Liukin must let Wieber and Raisman lead the team. It's their time. I think Nastia should just be there to support the team and do her thing on UB and BB. She should take a step back or it will be a problem because there are too many alphas on the team. Let Jordyn and Aly do their thing and it will be all good.

There are two reasons why I don't like the Chinese bars. One, those deadhangs. They hurt me ! And second, the turns. Yes, the full turns are beautiful but when they do half one way and half the other? It always looks to me like their improvising and have forgotten. It doesn't look as elegant as I know the Chinese are.

@artyowen92 are you kidding?? watch the 2010 euro team final. the bbc commentators are blatantly cheering on the british gymnasts, WHICH IS A BIG NO NO. nbc NEVER does that. and bbc gives false facts. in the 2010 euro tf, they claimed russia had never won the euro tf title, when they definitely won it in 2000

I feel so sorry for Alicia Sacramone, if she had had a good world champs in 2011 she may well have been selected for London 2012, I thought she was really strong in all the trials considering how recently she had been injured.

They should speak the truth. If they win, fair enough but don't make it sound like it's impossible for anyone else to catch up during. You can't talk for a nation as a whole and even if that's what America wants then America has a bunch of growing up to do....
@threefootroo
@threefootroo 12 лет назад
Not once, but TWICE Elfi refers to Chinese falls as "shocking" just after discussing how inconsistent they've been. I'm pretty sure that the point at which you can fire a commentator is when they've demonstrated on air that they don't know what the word "shocking" means.

Ultimate Olympic team as of 3/8/2012: Raisman, Douglas, Maroney, Liukin, Weiber Breakdown; Vault: Maroney (amanar), Weiber (amanar), Douglas (amanar); Beam: Liukin, Weiber, Raisman; Uneven Bars: Liukin, Douglas, Weiber; Floor: Raisman, Weiber, Maroney What do you guys think?

My only thing is that we won without the Russians and the Romanians at there very best, thats my one big reservation and really keeping me from being excited about our win. I would have liked to see the girls win when the other top two teams are healthy and are at the top of there game.
@mindyschocolate
@mindyschocolate 12 лет назад
I have to agree with you on that point. While I love seeing our girls, I really want to see other teams too. Why can't they show the other girls when ours are just milling around taping ankles or something? If they're not competing, they should pan over to another team. I want to see Beth Twiddle! I only saw her awesome bars by watching youtube videos. There are other teams too, but I can't name any of the girls. It's always US, Russia, China, and Romania shown. I want to see UK and Canada.
@mindyschocolate
@mindyschocolate 12 лет назад
Oh, and I forgot we've seen Memmel and Sloan. If I saw Liukin at least once, I'd be more comfortable, but how can a gymnast go from staying away from hard core training for 4 years, no competitions or anything, and then suddenly reappear for Olympics? Frankly, with so much riding on the team for gold, that's just too risky, UB silver medalist or not. I certainly hope to see her at Visa's. Trials is NOT the place to compete first time or make comeback appearances.
@mindyschocolate
@mindyschocolate 12 лет назад
You're right, we have absolutely no idea where those girls are in their prep. That's the problem I'm having with them. Sacramone and Johnson we've at least seen in competitions now, so we know where they're at. My problem is I haven't seen Liukin at all in 4 years. No one has. Just because someone does awesome at the prior Olympics is no guarantee they've remained the same, especially if they haven't been maintaining their training over the years. Plenty of the Mag 7 girls didn't return for 2000
@georgert
@georgert 12 лет назад
Maroney is unbeatable on VT. The other two will be Amanar experts, either Aly, Jordyn, Kyla or Gabby. UB is Wieber, Douglas, and someone else (Liukin, Ross, Bross, Li, Johnson or Sloan). Beam will be Wieber, Ross and Raisman. FX will feature Raisman and Wieber, with maybe Maroney or Douglas. Who knows where Liukin, Sloan, Johnson, Memmel, Vega are in their prep. It's all just reading tea leaves now, but team gold is the priority so Marta wants girls who are absolute rocks in their best events.
@georgert
@georgert 12 лет назад
Granted, there are some outstanding non-American gymnasts out there. But what counts is who's standing on the podium in London. US commentators don't speak to gym fans, gymnasts, coaches or gymnast's parents. They are talking to the millions of people who watch gym only once every four years, and the only thing thing those people want to see are a bunch of smiley, American girls holding flowers over their head and holding up gold medals... just like they did in Tokyo.

I remember in 1996 there were 7 girls on the team. Every girl went up, and the lowest score was dropped. I wish they'd go back to that!
