I think it would be easy enough to add a fuse with a switch, to turn on and off the traction control. If it’s a standard blade type fuse that would be an easy solution to on demand traction control.
My county's Sherrif's Dept. use these almost exclusively. And if it's not a Caprice, then it's a Tahoe. Because of this, they tend to participate in as many street races as they stop.
@@bruno_kunda Cops don't use caprice models in Australia..they use basic commodore sedans...The caprice is mostly used as a federal government car for politicians because of its elegance and long wheel base for better leg room
@@bruno_kunda WHo told you that? Definatley not true- we have never used the caprice which is a "Statesman" in Australia- We use Commodore, Falcons and now SRT and BMW
I don't know about you, but I don't buy cars for any of these reasons: 1. To impress other car-guys 2. To fool the general public 3. To pretend to be a cop No, I'd buy a Caprice because who wouldn't want a CHEAP, stripped out v8 sedan? If only GM offered a cheaper version of the SS sedan or G8 (when it was around). Sub 10k police auction prices, sign me up. You'll pay double for a G8 with leather and sat-nav? No thanks.
I wouldn’t buy a Caprice. Not because I don’t want a cheap V8, but because I want a decent vehicle. Such as a Toyota or literally anything else Japanese.
This car is actually really famous here in the middle east , it comes with 2 engines : a 3.6 V6 which is really crappy and the 6.0 v8 , its basically the poor man super car over here .. its the cheapest way to get a v8 and RWD , with headers , intake , filters , sport exhaust and a pro charger with the right tune you easily get upwards of 500 whp which is just amazing and it beats most of the cars on the street .. It also comes from the dealer in 4 trims : LTZ , LS , SS and Royale .
"Do you see me Toecutter?! Do you see me, man?!" "Born with a steering wheel in his hand ... and lead in his foot. He's the Nightrider, cruisin at the speed of fright!!"
I don't, typical American who thinks he's cool because he uses foreign slang, I want to kick his teeth in every time I hear him say "Ute" but typical of an American to take something from another country and try to claim it as theirs.
@@legass420 they should shut their mouth and not talk about Australian Cars in the first place since they have no understanding of the significance and culture around them.
@@jrburger95 Well why should they have any understanding of the significance and culture? Who gives two shits at all? They're not in the country where said significance and culture took place, so there's no chance of them understanding that. At the end of the day, they're raising awareness of the Commodore's existence. I don't see a problem with that.
@@legass420 Commodore is a piece of crap that deserves to fall into obscurity, Piston slap on the V8s and Timing Chain Problems on the V6s bad cars, both get chopped by turbo inline6 Barras daily. As an Australian, it's weird seeing this in government issue trim, they're sold over here as Statesman, Caprice and HSV's performance version the Grange, but they're all luxury versions, the top of the options tree.
@@christian60634 They'd be hard to come by now, Australian wreckers would be the only source from the models Statesman, Caprice & Grange. Holden stopped making cars about five years ago, so spare parts for them are hard to get.
@@M21L35 False. Commodore SS was the Pontiac G8 and later the Chevy SS. Chevy Caprice PPV was based on the long wheelbase, but was a low trim version of the Holden Statesman and Caprice. In any other country the long wheelbase cars were the luxury item. It even sold in China as the Buick Park Avenue.
@@M21L35 no you’ve got that the wrong way around the SS and G8 were based on the Commodore, but the Caprice has a longer wheelbase and is based on the Statseman
The 11-13 Caprices are on par with auto G8 pricing. The 14-17 Caprice cost more but they have improved suspension, Chevy SS interior. They all have Bluetooth, remote start and are just generally nicer. But they are the official car of I cant afford an SS
The Caprice PPV and the SS have a few things in common, but the most important one by far is that someone out there has put Holden badges and rims on it and called it a Holden. Which they are.
You keep saying "it's not a Caprice, it's not a Caprice" but really, it is. Caprice has been sold down here in Aus for ages as a long-wheelbase Commodore, which is exactly what the PPV is. PPV = Holden Caprice
My main takeaway from the video 5:50 : Having aspirations can be a good thing, but, having aspirations isn't the same thing as achieving them. This will stay with me forever, Thanks Mr Regular
Travis Hill the g8 is a ve commodore but this is the more luxurious version called the Holden ve statesman it is a bit bigger and only available in an automatic they were built them from 2007-2013 and only available in auto they have a ls2 that Holden modified to run on e85
Nope, it is a long wheelbase version of the Pontiac G8 which is a VE Commodore Series 1. This has its own unique model identifier being WM instead of VE. You can't swap out the rear doors with a G8 there much longer. The dashboard is also from a base model VE Commodore Series 2 Omega.
I just found your channel/videos, and friggin love them! Keep it up, absolutely hilarious, but some like the chevy II and falcon talk about the importance of old cars, the time machine qualities... Pretty cool stuff.
Here in Australia, there was the Holden statesman, which was the entry-level luxury barge, then there was the Holden Caprice as the luxury version with the LS1 , the the icing on the cake was the HSV Grange, which was a luxury-sport vehicle. The owner could just go on ebay and purchase the proper centre console from a parts breaker yard here in Aus, that would be much cheaper..
As an Aussie who is an avid Holden lover I have to say the Chevy Caprice PPV is a very different car to what we get in Aus. Firstly if you want to see the Aussie version google VE Holden Caprice. The Caprice PPV was based on the VE Commodore Series 2 the Series 1 Commodore was exported to the US as the G8. That interior in the PPV is taken straight out of the base model Commodore which is called the Omega, the engine is from a higher spec performance model most commonly the SS but here we call the engine AFM which stands for Active Fuel Management (Built in Port Melbourne in Victoria in the same place they build the V6 engines and then installed into the body during assembly in Elizabeth, South Australia). That front bumper is also straight off an Omega however all the parts on the body that usually have chrome have been blacked out. The factory Caprice has much more chrome on the body and bumpers with the addition of fog lights. The Caprice in Aus is a luxury vehicle over here you get the option for V8 or V6 and full leather interior including upgraded Bose sound system and full touch screen integration (available on all models however GPS and Maps are optional on Omega and Berlina) Privacy windows anda whole long list of extras for comfort. Basically the Caprice PPV in America has the interior of the Poverty/fleet spec Commodore and the Body of the luxury up spec car. I hope this helped anyone who was curious.
@@drackula1985 GM as a company no longer sells vehicles in Australia full stop when the current stocks are sold. ALL current stocks are from non Australian Sources. In five years time they will bot even have spare parts and service dealers! This is their new Left hand drive policy only
I'm surprised they discontinued the Caprice in the USA so early, they kept selling the Chevrolet Caprice in the Arabian Peninsula, and we even had some models that weren't available in North America. This model I recall seeing all around Saudi Arabia as a regular civilian car, along with the earlier Caprice models which were, and still are, quite prevalent.
Flash_BeeZy Really? Didn't know the Caprice was selling poorly, the car was popular in the early and late 90's, my father even owned an '86 Caprice for some time. Shame to see such a great and prestigious name fade away.
Flash_BeeZy My, my; darn politicians in Australia are just shooting themselves on the foot. No good can come from the automotive industry moving out of Australia; especially considering how car production creates a lot of jobs and wealth.
+flash_beezy, it has nothing to do with legislation and everything to do with unprofitable manufacturing. it's cheaper and easier just to boat everything out here. they are taking a bath against cheap imports.
Having been an ASE certified parts manager and assistant manager at Autozone in my younger years your description of getting parts for cars like this is SPOT ON. I nearly peed my pants laughing at that. Well done
Hold on... Zeos and Mr.Regular in the same video...these are literally my 2 favorite review channels in one video I can die happily now that this match made in heaven has been done
I come from the land down under Where Ford's gone and soon Holden Cant you hear can't you hear the thunder You better run, you better cry in a corner RIP Australian Auto industry :'(
+bigredponcho did you know that the workers get paid the same amount as the one's in Germanys Opel and Ford factories? I bet you didn't. And over there it's also very unionised in the manufacturing industry. So stop believing what Turdball and the LNP a saying in Canberra... Australian's enjoy a lot of benefits in the workforce because of Unions.... when we stop having Unions the Australian quality of life will be going backwards even quicker than it is now.
I love the Action news inspired ending song, brought back warm memories. Oh Wilm PD has a fleet of these but in beige, so finding a de-com one would make having one a super sleeper car
I can't believe how many people make this mistake! The Cheverolet Caprice isn't the Pontiac G8. Yes, they do share the platform and the whole drivetrain. However, these are different vehicles in the same way I am NOT my brother because we have the SAME parents. The Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle and the middle eastern Chevrolet Caprice are the Holden Caprice. The pontiac G8, the Chevrolet SS, the middle eastern Chevrolet Lumina, and Vauxhall VXR8 are the Holden Commodore.
The Caprice is the long wheelbase one. They were sold as Statesman ("basic" luxury), Caprice (sew fauncey) , and HSV Grange (Superfauncy performance model) The G8/Chevvy SS is the standard wheelbase Commodore. We had em as wagons and pickups too.
uh a bit of something to keep in mind while editing next time, but when you were talking about the history of the caprice and you added the "I don't have any free- use footage" since it was sliding and not just immediately there it made me lose track of what you were saying.
Blaine Bugaski GM do a lot weird testing and development in Aus. I keep seeing weird cars around with "THIS VEHICLE IS A LEFT HAND DRIVE" and " CAUTION TEST VEHICLE". They're using some of the factories near where I live to get wheel alignments and fabrication. I chased this thing for 15 mins the other day trying to get a picture but he panicked and ran, just floored it from me. Looked like Buick badges. Could've been Chinese Buick.
Yep. This a long wheelbase sedan, V8 version of what was the standard taxi/fleet/cop car. We could get LS3s, L77, and a couple of locally built V6s. Pickup bodies, short wheelbase sedans and also a station wagon. Production finished in October 2017, and that was the end of our car industry.
Haven't seen too many of these, especially civilianized. The one time I really got to see one was on the highway, where I watched it launch off the side of the road like a rocket and then I never saw it again. It's ridiculously fast.
It's really a Holden Caprice/Statesman that's been completely stripped out. In Australia, the Caprice is the top of the line model which now has the same interior as the VF Commodore or Chevrolet SS. Leather seats, swade dash, Bose audio, heads up display etc... The big difference between this and a Pontiac G8 (VE) and Chevrolet SS (VF) is that it is Long Wheel Base, the rear doors are far bigger. The Caprice also has its own chassis code being WM from 2006 to 2013 and the updated models being WN. Statesmen were discontinued for the WN update and instead they sold a Caprice and Caprice V. The interior of these PPV's are also unique they have a VE series 2 dash with Holden IQ but the same as the base model rather than what is used in the standard Statesmen/Caprice where the trim flows into the speedometer and the plastic trim around the audio system is separated from the air vents.
Lol first time to this uploader, not even a car fanatic, but a friend who is told me to watch the first 15 seconds of this video, and it's comedic gold XD
The Caprice is still the fastest police vehicle on the market. Chargers ain't even faster, then again the Chargers fall apart before hitting their top speed. Now how would you like a Tahoe PPV or SSV?
DMV Miata and Jeep That is correct. Usually they are even more stripped down than the base model to be almost completely utilitarian or allow more dash/center console space for a computer.
SolaceRapier Using an SUV as a PPV is completely stupid to me. If you are in pursuit with someone, how would you feel lumbering down a street weaving through traffic with a Chevy Tahoe or Ford Explorer. they're not even good for paddy wagons... Too big for a PPV but too small for a paddy wagon.
They CAN be. You can get a Ford Police Interceptor Sedan (Otherwise known as a Taurus) with the base 2.0 Ecoboost I4. But it can be optioned to have the same 3.7 V6 from the Mustang or an upgraded version of the 3.5 Ecoboost V6 from the SHO (which allegedly now makes 385hp over the SHO's 365). Basically it's a base Taurus that can have a higher power SHO engine. No wonder it's the fastest police vehicle!
I come back to this video a lot more than I should but after owning 2 of these and one being bone stock and the other being a setup drag car. I wanna say they’re an awesome platform. I’ve had nothing but fun with these cars. They provide a lot of unique stuff with the ability to purchase true holden parts and get the feel of being JDM almost. They’re super easy to make fast and take a beating. The parts aren’t as hard to get as some may believe. All drive train is carried from a standard LS so it can be found anywhere oarts for a 5.3 can be. Same with the transmission. The rear ends are shared bewteen a Chevy ss and a camaro as well as G8 so you can find them pretty easily. Here and there parts are what I’ve found to be weird. I broke a stud off of the front hub and had to wait a few days for a new stud to come back in. Other than that you can pick these cars up for 6-10k depending what you want. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a fun car that fits all of your friends
