Very good. One of the rare video's where we are actually shown how the repair was made. Thank you.

When I hear "It was 75 yesterday and 15 and snowing today" I thought, huh, sounds like Colorado! Thanks for this video, trying to diagnose flickering in my house and have already gone through a bunch of stuff and still scratching my head. Something like a vacuum starting up on one circuit will cause lights to dim on a different circuit, even with "flicker free" LED bulbs.

Following up - turns out it was a dropped neutral from the transformer. House was built in 2000, the underground cable coming up to the meter had bare copper concentric spiral wrap used as the neutral, must have corroded over time. They hooked us up to a service restore box to temporarily replace the neutral and spent the better part of 2 weeks running the new cable, back up and running now! No more flickering!

Aw man . A squirrel crewed through my neutral cable, severing it. That made my house light flicker. Wish I saw that in your video. PG&E came out and fixed it for free.

I know this is an older post, but I have a flicker problem I hope to get some help with. My 12 yr old house/bathroom has two light fixtures with 4 LED bulbs on each one. One fixture has no problems. On the other one a single bulb started flickering. Later, another one started flickering and then sometimes only one flickers and sometimes both. This was always the same two bulbs. So yesterday I checked all the connections for tightness and put the fixture back in place. Guess what…those two bulbs no longer flicker, but now the third one does! 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m not that knowledgeable and I’m stumped. 🤔 Should I just take all connections apart, completely remove the fixture and start over? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I live in an older mobile home (yes I know that right there is the main problem.. lol) Whenever the front door is shut, the porch light (standard fixture & 60 W standard bulb) will flicker on and sometimes turns back off right way, but other times the flicker is more robust like a strobe light on espresso then it will stop and glow at about medium strength before slowly fading until it is off again. This all happens while the switch is turned to the off position. If you switch the light on usually nothing happens, occasionally it will give a couple blinks of light before it turns back off completely. Yes have replaced the receptacle with many different new bulbs even though I know it's not a problem w/the bulbs. I just don't want to actually have to cut into the wall if it's unnecessary. When unscrewing the light receptacle from wall the wires that can be seen look fine, no corrosion or chewed wires, goid connection.

What kind of warranty comes with the work you perform? We have a 3 year parts and labour. I could see option close, sand it down with no warranty for a cheaper price vs. Replacement with warranty and premium price.
@rickmace9404
@rickmace9404 2 года назад
I would NEVER warranty anything sanded. It will have small pits, which can create chatter. That chatter is heat and it is very small, but in time will get super hot. That is my opinion

omg is your business in long island? I wish you can come to my house and check why only my garage and living room light are intermittently flickering. when they start to Mildly flicker, they flicker synchronously, in the same rhythm? why would they be? and this is after the electricians did some wiring work in the house.

You should have put antioxidant on the exposed cable ends and also applied it to the surface that you "sanded"

Okie our need help our power is all kinds of weird for about the last 3 days we can only have one room at a time running or the stove over the frig. House is 1970s my husband has changed out all the old wire besides the main that comes from the meter. Even had the transformer changed out 2 days ago bc there was problems with to much power coming in. But where still stumped he thinks it's the main wire that's hooked to the meter we cha.ged breaks out for new as well still having problems. If we hook other rooms or dryers up it makes lights flicker an the it blows the breaker but the break doesn't even switch bk to off.

Hello, I have a new home with AFCI breakers and our Tesla mobile connector seems to be tripping the same three breakers most night (but not the 220V/50a breaker for the charger in the garage). Have any ideas what could cause this? The same three breakers trip (kitchen lights, dishwasher, and washing machine). Wish your were local to me!
@brarautorepairs
@brarautorepairs 3 года назад
Does your AFCI have a diagnostic light?
@Immacu1ate
@Immacu1ate 3 года назад
@@brarautorepairs yes, flashes 5 times.
@brarautorepairs
@brarautorepairs 3 года назад
@@Immacu1ate There should be a sticker in your panel that will help decode the diagnostic light. If not, you'll need to look up your breaker and the code on Google. Also when was the 220V added? The AFCI breaker will pick up noise on the neutral. The 220V uses both phases of the panel which would blow the breakers if you are getting back feeding. I'm going through some crazy issues with my breakers right now and am on a mission to fix the nuisance tripping.
@Immacu1ate
@Immacu1ate 3 года назад
@@brarautorepairs Says it’s a ground fault but a few electricians can’t seem to find the issue. I avoid trips by charging the car at 16amps vs the 32amps that it’s capable of. It’s annoying but I’ve decided it’s not worth the fight. 16amps gives us a full charge overnight anyways.
@brarautorepairs
@brarautorepairs 3 года назад
@@Immacu1ate Ground fault from my understanding is that you have a short to ground which would cause a large current draw. What you need to do is verify with the charger on, if you are getting 120 Volts between the left and right side of the breaker bars and the neutral. An amp probe can be used to assist to confirm you are drawing the same amount of amps on both sides of the lugs having turned off all the other breakers. What you might find is leakage of current through the ground path which means your neutral is either broken or loose along the circuit. Unfortunately, you could have a break behind a wall where someone has driven a screw during construction and damaged the insulation.

I have a question if you have time to answer please. I have lived in a house for 6 years which was new when we moved in. About a month ago the arc fault breaker to the back bedrooms and guest bath will trip randomly about once or twice a month, often with nothing on in any of the rooms. What are the chances this could just be a bad breaker switch? I can make it trip if I iron in one of the bedrooms but it makes no sense why it would trip with nothing running in the rooms. Thanks!!

@rickmace9404
@rickmace9404 2 года назад
I would have replaced the breaker and lung. Those small pits will create chatter and in time that heat will melt it. I’m sure what you did will last a few years(unless the home owner uses something that take a heavy load) that chatter is evil!

At 1:39 he comments: “As you can see this electrician was dyslexic……”, and he is talking about mixed up of the phases as in: black, red =A & B phase. He is correct and justified even though in 1 phase setting doesn’t matter but it’s a workmanship issue and either lack of knowing the basics or just ( a handyman became electrician) but anyway, whoever the electrician made that stupid mistake aside, WHAT ABOUT THE INSPECTOR???, was he also FRIDAY & DYSLEXIC inspector!!! After all, as a 12 year old house, that house went under the inspection and that dumb ass mistake wasn’t made as an after work. It really cracks me up that the inspector didn’t fail the electrical work based on the fact: If you failed the obvious, chances are that if the electrician made a mistake on the basic principle then what other mistakes did he make that aren’t as obvious!!! …… AND THE SAME GOES WITH THE DOPE- HEAD inspector

Are there torque specs for that stuff?
@bryanwhitton1784
@bryanwhitton1784 8 месяцев назад
Yes, every nut and bolt has a torque setting based upon the size and material of the fastener. When I owned a solar installation company we had torque wrenches for each size bolt used for the racking and torque nut drivers for all electrical connections. I raced motorcycles and used torque wrenches religiously on my bikes as well. The last thing I wanted was a wheel nut coming loose or a swing arm nut loosening up at 170 on the track. No different for any serious nut and bolt.

Those N95 masks with the ventilator (the one your wearing in the video) are not meant for covid-19/SARS. Why? The purpose of masks is to keep respiratory droplets from reaching others to aid with source control masks with one-way valves or vents allow air to be exhaled through a hole in the material, which can result in expelled respiratory droplets that can reach others. GREAT dust control NOT virus SARS- thus why the medical field does not utilize. An analogy for you as an electrician YOUR LIKE AN OPEN NUETRAL wearing that valve mask- get a 3 layer cotton mask for covid-19 or surgical mask if you can find them.
