I just bought a 2012 Honda Civic EX Coupe in December, so far I put a little over 20,000 miles on the car and achieved 35.0 MPG after owning it for 8 mths. 8 mths later I grew tired of it so quickly because I drive 40 miles a day to and from work and the car just crashed over bumps instead of absorbing the bumps, my air condition just blows ice cold instead of struggling which is great with this hot Maryland weather we have. Probably I'll trade my Civic in within the next year or so.
I completely agree, my Fit is at 11,900 miles and it's still worth $15,000 trade in. It still amazes me to this day how strong the resale value is, I'm about to do a 1 year update video on the car :)
Yeah! that's funny especially the Way you looked when you were pulling off to go, that's what i do to see if the car next me is trying race me, good video
Thats a solid choice as well, but make sure and go for the skyActiv engine. I personally hate the looks of the Mazda 3 but if you dont mind it, its also a fun car to drive, just be prepared for a more firm ride and a slightly cramped rear seat
The A/C sounds about as bad as my 2008 Mazda3 was; above 90 degrees, I needed to keep it on full blast all the time (with recirculating on) just to stay comfortable. The A/C in my 2011 Mazda2 is much better -- after about 5 minutes to cool down the interior, I can turn off the recirc and raise the temperature and still stay comfortable. But the Fit does have a larger interior and a lot more glass area than the Mazda2.
Drove a brand new fit and found it had to much road noise and the engine was noisy/gutless (all they had were automatics. My 2012 civic lx sedan 5spd doesn't bring a smile to my face but it gets half decent fuel economy and is reasonably comfortable.
Hi Sofyan, I read online that the 2012 Fit has added sound insulation for a quieter ride. Can you notice the difference from the 2011 models? Or is it still as loud?
Interesting about the AC. I have two Honda Fits, old and new version. The AC works great all the time and even at stops... even in hights of 90's Yours must have some problem. Also, get rid of the Dunlop tires. I had to junk mine, on both cars after 25,000 miles will lots of tread left. They tended to get noisier and noisier, and developed out-of-round whopping sounds on the road. I went to Hankook... smooth as glass, much, much less road noise.
Pretty sure the AC going warm at idle is a feature to improve fuel economy around town. There's probably a relay you can jump or a fuse you can pull to disable the "feature"
I'd much rather have the Fit over the GTI. VWs are nice, but with Hondas, you just can't complain. I don't think VWs are very practical, very high in quality but a lot of just odd problems, especially with the Turbos.
Thanks! and naw I don't like the red color on the GTI bc its a flat red. I would get the Shadow Blue Metallic color and I love the rims that comes standard on the Autobahn package. From the first video I made of his car I did love it, however there are things about the ST that I love as well. It's going to be a tough choice next spring between the two, although like I said, price will be the deciding factor lol
I can't disagree more about the ac. It runs fine, if you're hot you just put it on face only and turn it up. I do not have the idling blowing warm issue.
I disagree, I think they have gotten very practical, as far as issue with their Turbos, they had a lot of problems with the older FSI 2.0T, the current turbo is the all new TSI 2.0T and it has been much more reliable vs the old FSI engine
Nice review. There are a couple of things missing though. Although you seem to like the revving, you don't mention the gearbox itself. The Jazz is fitted with an excellent manual gearbox, which makes gearshifts fun to do. Another thing that I noticed, especially compared to the old (2002-2008) Jazz, is the stiffness of the rear suspension. In my opinion the i'ts too stiff, especially when the rear seats and luggage space are empty. It's very uncomfortable, and the old model was much better.
yeah you have a nice car the race would be pretty even but i preferred the X5 over the volvo but you chose the Volvo. i like the volvo but i love the X5.
It is noisy, just keep the music loud and focus on the engine and driving and it fades away lol. I did drive a 5MT 08 Rabbit the other day and it was more refined but not as much fun as the Fit or GTI lol
9:52 top right, old fit, :) yea, the reason i chose this, was the balance of fun to drive + 2 kids. i use the fold down/up seats so much that i almost wouldn't want to do without them. plus, i'm on a budget, and back before all the other makes had their recent iterations of compacts due to the fit's success, i chose the fit hands down. here's hoping the next 2013 will have some sort of improved mpg to keep up, while still maintaining the utility it had in '12! i plan on buying another.
Deal with it it's a review. If people held the bar as low as you do everything and everyone on this planet would suck. A top of the line Mercedes Benz S550 is an amazing car in terms of style and driving characteristics but guess what it will have flaws too.
a fit Si would be a fucking dream, but only after they've updated the specs to compete with the current compact line-up. i would buy that in a heartbeat!
lol thats awesome, your GF has the same exact car as Jackson. Which one has the 6MT and which has the DSG? or do you both have the stick or the DSG? I am planning to get rid of the Fit in the Spring. Depending on what VW is offering then in terms of financing or leasing I may consider a 2013 Autobahn 4 Dr with the DSG since Jackson has the 6MT. It really comes down to if the VW will be a lot cheaper than the ST bc right now, Ford isn't offering any incentives or special financing.
Just bc it lacks torque doesn't make it a girly car, most Honda's lack torque anyways... It's not like my Fit is a base model with the automatic... Yes, it may be slow at higher speeds but its actually quite peppy and fun at low speeds. I'll be ready for a quicker and more refined car next year tho
The Fit is more fun to drive and more cargo space and has a better resale value. The Versa is quieter with a softer ride and has more rear legroom but its a really boring car to drive. It's your choice, but I'd say check out the Fiesta if you like that softer ride the Versa offers.
Its supposedly going to get merged with the TL at some point soon, honestly, test drive the current TSX and see how you like it. The 5AT isnt a bad transmission and it shifts quickly and crisply.
My 08 honda accord v6 sedan blows ice cold in 100 degree temps stopped or crusin. My wifes 07 civic sedan a/c id just like the fits. Shitty! Honda is really cutting corners the last few years!
Its not that I'm complaining.. I'm going over the pros and cons after ownership... Yes I have a great car that I love but I am also paying for it so that means you are allowed to notice issues with it
I have a 2012, and love it ! And the A/C is just fine - that's here in Florida too. I don't have a stick - but have found I can still rock it with the paddle shifters - when that mood strikes ... After coming from a civic hatch - this is the next logical step - and it works !!
OK so, over all you seem to be happy with your FIT. I just saw your video and I have to say this first: glad you drive a stick otherwise we won’t be having this conversation. Driving a small 4 without a standard transmission is ludicrous, automatic is a grandma-mobile and looses all the umph fun of driving this car. My thoughts: after driving the fit for almost 4 years, I decided to keep it and just buy another vehicle altogether as a secondary ride. It’s already paid for and I’m wondering now how well it will continue to hold up the way it’s been. Averaging 12Ks a year with 50% highway and giving it the rev it deserves almost daily, I am still driving with the confidence as the first day after break-in. I didn't get the sports package and I didn't want the leather. I live in Florida so, I understand about the heat. Although the AC doesn't perform the way you want it to, I found a way around that and everything else the base model lacks contrast to the sports model. If you are willing to be a DIY those shortfalls can be improved quickly. Here’s addressing your point about the noise and AC: The car isn't insulated well and therefore consequently suffers the lack there of. So, I decided to Dynamat, a heat and sound deadener for the interior and upgraded the head unit with a Clarion NX404. I now have the tech that’s needed to obtain the options most people desire in a car for their pleasure. Also, I find that when upgrading my seats with Recaro style seats I won’t need the leather or miss that type of luxury. The car’s interior run better cooled and sound has quite considerably making the blue-tooth manageable and road noise deaden. I discovered while doing the work, there’s a floor air vent that’s now much more efficient than before. Thank goodness for Florida’s fair tint allowance, the back can be darker more than 35% not like the front. Overall: By improving the Honda FIT with minor outfitted upgrades can make a major change with all the difference in the world and making it much more of an appreciated ride. I even now think the FIT is set with the best specious interior than its competitors. Thanks for sharing and now you have a little of my input too.
I don't actually drive like this all the time, I was trying to make it more interesting for you guys... Besides, ppl in my area drive like assholes all the time
We both have the DSG. I know how to drive manual but I have no patients for it. Don`t mean to sound like I know you, but from your first video, It seemed you were very happy with Jackson`s GTI. So that`s why I say to buy one. I respect your idea that it seems lame for acouple to have the same car, but we haven`t had anyone say anything to us about that...Please if you do end up getting a GTI, don`t get a red one, it looks "carnivalish" and get it with chrome rims. BTW...Great job on the vids!
Excuse me for saying, but if the only reason your not buying a GTI is because Jackson, which I`m assuming is your significant other, has one....your going to miss out on a great car in the GTI. And no, it wouldn`t be lame, my girlfriend and I have GTI`s. Just bought my this past August and she bought hers in 2010. Hers is a 2dr candy white color and mine is a 4dr carbon steel color. Please don`t take offense to my comment, it`s just simply in conversation, not a critic or judgment against you.
my toyota yaris has the same ac problems. Exactly how you describe yours. I took it to the dealer 3 times. The second time they replaced the blower motor and it still didn't change. I just try to avoid the red lights. It's embarrassing. I think it's related to the small engine. Never had that problem with my 1.8 liter on my Corolla I had before. It's good to read that another car has my same problem. My lease ends in April.
Since the windows are so big just put in a small air conditioning unit in and hook up a wall plug in the car lol. there aren't any good sub-compact cars today. They all have flaws but only once I consider "balanced" with goods and bads would be the sonic. It doesn't have a shit drivetrain like a yaris but its interior looks quite boring. I can't live a hot day without AC, the lights on the streets are slow and if the AC doesn't go cold I'm going to be very pissed. Idk if the veloster counts as
yeah A/C sucks on my month old fit but it does the job most of the time. Also was thinking about the GTI as well but the deciding factors on the fit for me were regular gas over premium, here in So. Cal the gas is at 4 bucks for regular and furthermore the insurance for the GTI is ridiculously high because the turbocharger. I do feel like my fit sport is money well spent.
they are great cars, but for me i dont think sub-compacts are really good highway drivers. i really counted on the fit, but i mean with AC getting warm at a light...i think its a large flaw. i still would take a fit though, cause i like to full-throttle so the AC will stay cold. also i plan my routes with less stops so it would be fine.
Nope. I am leaning towards the 2009 Honda Civic. As long as the A/C doesn't struggle at red lights and stop and go traffic. ;-P Have you heard about that problem? It's hot and humid in Florida, year round, so I need a good A/C. My Yaris is exactly like yours, A/C wise.
NOPE... My 0-60 with 3 people in the car is 6.1 seconds i timed it and your car is NOT more luxurious than mine. The engines are pretty much the same too I have a 3.0L Twin Scroll Turbo Inline-6 and a 6 Speed GearTronic Automatic, with 305Hp and 325 lb/tq
I have no probs with the AC in my 2010, other than it can get smelly if I don't turn off the air before I'm done driving. Recirculate with the panel setting keeps my pretty cold, and we just had 103 degree heat indexes for a weak.
Nope my Volvo would beat yours it's 0-60 time is 6.1 Seconds and your BMW is not more luxurious they are on the same level of luxury and build quality. Just mine is faster. How much Horsepower and lb/ft of Tourque do you have?
I'll agree with you on that. The Camry rides smooth but it feels as if it has no weight or solidity you get from a European car. MBZ cars ride more firm but they have that solid and reassured feel and take bumps with no flex.
Currently unemployed but expect to get a job soon. I'm going crazy because I don't have anywhere to go yet. So.... can't tell you what my gas milage will be. Keep up the reviews they are very helpful.
I might trade my 2012 Civic EX Coupe for a 2013 Acura ILX 2.0, a Chevrolet Cruze since I'm so use to driving Chevy's when I first started driving or just get another Civic Coupe, but I would get the EX-L Model with Navigation but more updated with much better features. The Color I would get it in would be Black instead of Gray. I believe I know where you live because I saw your car in person when I was checking out apartments in the Virginia area and you did a good job personalizing your car.
Have you driven a Honda Accord 2.4 manual Coupe? I'm curious if it is just as much fun to drive. I love the fit... it's reliability, practicality and fun factor. However the accord is more of a grown ups person car, no offense. Have you had any experience with the Honda Accord Coupe manual? There are hardly any reviews on line for the 2.4 litter. Lots of V6 reviews, but that's just too much power, where torque steer becomes a factor and it's not so good on gas. Let me know please thanks!
This is what people need true honest comments and opinions about a car. Excellent review. I cant wait to see what you say about the GTI. You cant see these gripes from other car reviewers who get the car for a month. You actually have to research crap before you buy a car in their forums and owners like you. Oh yeah i have a question so i have a leather wrapped steering wheel and its already shiny i.e. its 10 years old. How do I clean it up?
you should get your aircon checked. the symptom you just described (no cold air during idle) could be caused by a number of different reasons: defective expansion valve, fan belt on compressor too loose, not enough freon (leak). cooling fan for condenser too weak...
i don't want to buy it since it's the end of the model lol but it's so mad. Parents said they wouldn't want another honda/acura since in the crv we have, the mirrors make the car's body look slanted like this. [\ ] the \ represents the body of the car. so it's difficult to reverse.
nope i just googled it your car is 6.9 secs from 0-60. and my car can be under 6 secs if you launch it right. and my car is 306hp with about 300lb/ft of torque. and yes my car is much more luxurious i even bought extra stuff in it for over $20.000
What is happening to the Acura TSX? Is there going to be a new version or will it be cancelled. If a 6 speed automatic comes out, I will seriously buy that car in an instant. 1st car, idk what i should get. lol
A/C is not a flaw, it's the built in Econ mode from JDM cars. It's purely for fuel economy. It reduces drag on the engine at lower speeds and when aggressively accelerating to free up power ( since it is underpowered)
the AC problem is because its got a tiny little 4 banger. and the black leather certainly contributes to it too. my cars got leather and decently strong AC and it still takes forever to cool down
i was looking up ways to clean it up and i found that the mr clean magic eraser does wonders but actually does harm to the leather on the steering wheel. i dont know if i should use it.
