This is a car that Hyundai should still be selling here in America. It would be the perfect flagship car for Hyundai right now. The V6 was a good enough engine for me.

I very strongly disagree, but only because the buying public really has spoken and I agree with DeMuro: EV SUVs are at least the future of large cars. I think Toyota has it right with the Crown and whatever the 3-row is called. That said the Azera in both generations really was excellent and an Azera as a Crown fighter would be great. Maybe a larger Ioniq 5 but still 2-row, or a more straightforward EV 6 rebadge with its lower roof line

@@classicforreal Here's the problem. Most people don't want EVs. Myself included. Doug Demuro will be proven wrong. Also, not everyone wants an SUV, crossover, or pickup. Some of us just want normal cars. There is still a market for large cars. Not as big as it used to be, but there's still a market nonetheless.

@classicforreal I agree with everything you said except I feel like we need more non-EV options for the future. I'm one of those people that will never buy an EV unless absolutely forced to do so.

AGREED! I am still a big fan of the Azera. And I'm currently looking for one in the used car market.

@@johnnymason2460not enough of a market. Audi is discontinuing the A4. Toyota the Avalon. Buicks are crossover only. Maxima? Gone. Continental, Fusion, Taurus? Dead. Nobody wants large sedans anymore. I say this as a Genesis sedan owner who loves sedans… but they’re niche, like coupes, now.

I really liked the looks of this car. Wish they still made em. 😊

I owned a 2011 hyundai sonata for 6 1/2 years, and it was one of the most reliable and enjoyable vehicles, I've ever owned...good gas mileage and power, solid handling, roomy and comfortable ride...

While I didn’t dislike the Azera, I just think it never found its niche in the wake of Genesis. To me this was just an expensive way to get a V6 Sonata. And I agree and disagree on the styling…I liked the Lexus-like rear but the overall look made it look too much like the Sonata. A more distinctive front nose to match the rear would have made a big difference, IMO.

To the all owners of azera What you got back on 2012 , it's not available as a standard in bmw 5 series 2024 in UK and we have to pay extra as options 😂😢😂😢

Regarding price: Getting 20% off msrp on a hyundai wasn't unusual at all. We've had many hyundais in the extended family, and all have been 100% dependable.

It held up terribly with so many problems, but it probably was nice when it came out. That’s probably why they depreciate like crazy although they are well equipped cars.

Had to check that name - we got the previous model Grandeur, but it didn't fare well, being too floaty & cheesy. Hyundai then backed off big saloons here until Genesis, who now provide great value 2nd hand Lexus alternatives. ;) Looking at it, I see a Toyota Camry with a dash of Accord. Cheers Jon.

Your video hit on all the points that pretty much describe this car. And why it didn't make it here in the USA. I have the 2015, and it What's supposed to turn it around with a new look. But there was too much competition. But with it rejected and discontinued, it landed in my hands. At an affordable price.

As much as I like hyundai & kia I would buy something else like the nissan maxima yes I know the cvt transmission is Questionable in Terms of reliability but it was just as luxurious as the hyundai but it also has a sporty feel in the driving dynamics and honestly I feel like the 7th generation nissan maxima gets over looked did you consider doing the reaction of motorweek's review of the 2009-2014 Maxima I do believe they have one

I remember really liking the looks of these when they first came out. This was around the time that Hyundai really started stepping up their styling, which ultimately reaulted in today's beautiful Genesis vehicles.

Enjoyed this one, great choice Jon. To me the downfall of this model was price. At the time, the Hyundai Genesis model started at around $36,000. With the Azera optioned out this would easily put these two models in close competition, being redundant. As you said, Motor Trend did a comparison of $40,000 vehicles and Azera was included in that price point. Why not just opt for the Genesis for a little more money. BTW I’d love to get a link to that video. My mom has a 2013 Sonata and it looks very similar to this Azera, same color and all. Maybe it being so attractive at a lower price also contributed to the cancellation of Azera. Needless to say the new Genesis has jumped way up in price as a now separate brand so maybe there’s room for a new Azera?

I don’t like it as much as I once did. I guess it’s looking a little dated to me now. Feeling more Buick-like

The Azera and that generation Avalon bear a strong resemblance to each other IMHO. Don't know if good bad or neutral.

Forgot to add if I needed to carpool on long miles or get an Uber car this needs to be a serious contender.

These cars were underappreciated. It seemed to belong in the conversation with Avalons, Buicks, and Maximas. Was it the best of the bunch? No, but it was comparable in equipment.

12:35 - Value. That's why. 12:58 Rather have a Buick Lacrosse? Heck no. There are no post-2005 examples where a Buick is better than an equivalent Hyundai. None. Buick (GM in general) was making absolute trash, bland vehicles.

Never really understood this car but it rides nice and looks good. Its a shame the engine had so many issues all the ones in my town have engine issues and are on the way out or are scrapped. I work as a mechanic in a small it's a tragedy that so many hundai and kia products barely make it over 100k miles due to lack of maintenance and defects. Hopefully the next generation of cars will do better.

I had the pleasure of having a mercury sable 2009 model, in my early 20s. It’s still one of my favorite cars. I put over 70k miles in two years 😅. It never said no, it was quiet, comfortable, and could fit a a lot in the trunk. Sadly, it is impossible to find one today in any type of good condition. I regret getting rid of it .

my mom has a 2012 Azera with about 22,000 miles on it which is worth 6,633 at the moment and the motor week info is incorrect Hyundai started selling the Azera in the Us in 2000 though its highest sales year was 2006 with 27,000 units Abysmal hell if you compare the top 5 full size sedans of that era Toyota Avalon Chevrolet Impala etc. in 2006 the Avalon sold 89,000 and the Impala sold 290,000 though I'm partial to the Impala and its earlier defunct twin the Caprice as they were often used as cop cars when the Ford Crown Vic's were in the shop for maintanence or repairs the Azera has 18 in tires while for ex a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS has 17 in tires only about 8,400 Azera's sold in 2012

3:39 - The Genesis and Azera were not contemporaries. Genesis had RWD and could have a V8, neither of which were available on Azera.

I am saying this gently, no offense meant. When two things exist at the same time, you would state that those things are contemporaries. He didn't say they were in the same category.
