Knowing that ACA Hurricanes are already quite rare, seeing that you have a SQUARE HORN amazes me. ACA tried to compete with FS's Thunderbolt by making their own version of the Thunderbolt, they removed the square horn sometime during the Hurricane's production to avoid a potential lawsuit from FS. I would love to see a Hurricane (square horned) next to a Thunderbolt and have both of them go off.
Awesome! 😁 I'm sure I read somewhere that the Hurricane was based on the Thunderbolt and if that's the case then you can certainly see that a lot more with the square horn though even the round horn Hurricanes kinda sound like bolts crossed with p50s 👌
Yeah. Federal Signal (Or at the time known as Federal Sign and Signal) told ACA to redesign the Hurricane because it looked too close to the Thunderbolt. So they did, and the Hurricane MKII was born.
Vyclops The second generation of the hurricane (round horn) had “MK II” (Mark II) after the model number in order to identify the differences between the two variants. “Mark II” identifies that that the round horn hurricane is the second, revised design of the hurricane. Therefore you could technically call the square horned hurricane the MK I hurricane because it was the first design of the hurricane. So in conclusion the square horn is the Hurricane 130 MK I, and the round horn is the Hurricane 130 MK II.
Vyclops which is why I said you could technically call it the MK I. Hurricane. Because yes, there exist’s no documents from ACA calling it that. Also yes, it is a nickname, and for the record, this all stems from a comment I made 3 years ago. Not a book, not a history paper, a RU-vid comment. Does it matter that much that I called it by a nickname rather than it’s factory model No.?
@crazywarriorman I hereby confirm that you're running the siren on full voltage, and I still theorize that the capacitor may be the problem with the Hurricane winding up so slowly. The reason I confirmed that the Hurricane's running on full voltage is that the sound was pure ACA Hurricane alert on full voltage.
@kasm279 @Thewoog34 Due to the fact that the siren didn't have the capacitor hooked up, and was running on only half voltage, it didn't wind-down all the way. I assure you both I'll get this think hooked up and running in the summer. It should wind-down as long as Matt's.
@JerryMopar The Hurricane would need a hell of a lot more than a leaf blower. Even the 'bolt barely gets affected by one, and the Hurricane needs a lot more air than the 'bolt does.
I'm planning on buying the Herrin EOWS-408, I'll probably be the second known siren enthusiast from southern Illinois. If it's possible to own a square horn hurricane then I'll possibly get a 408
if that thing was fully restored, blower and all, im willing to bet that thing would bid in excess of 100 grand... hell ASC might even buy it and put it in a museum....
Garrett Sellers Grant you can check eBay, govdeals, public surplus or even thesirenboard.com for sirens being sold. Thunderbolts are very common so you'll have a good chance of getting one. If notice a old part of town has a brand new siren, chances are it probably replaced something. Get in contact with the proper officials and ask about it.
This was one was not the only squared horn Hurricane, there was another one in Elk Grove, Illinois but that was removed in 1990 and replaced by a P-50.
@TheNoisePolluter Haha too bad that's not my car. My truck was sitting right outside though. Plus there wasn't enough umph coming from the siren to do that.
Yes it is! It was completely redone with a 383 stroker, four barrel holley carb, 4.10s in the back and a completely restored interior. It was a cool car!
@@crazywarriorman imagine if there were some square horn hurricane's in Milwaukee, Garland, and Darien. Then the round horn would be rare. Nice find dude.
I almost that that Hurricane came from Elk Grove, Illinois because there was another square horned Hurricane there before it was replaced by a P-50 in 1990.
@crazywarriorman do you have the hurricanes blower working yet? i cant wait to hear some poor dude get his ears blown after they hear this with an operational blower!
