What gets me is that there is half a million red poppies , that’s a massive mintage . The Perth kookaburras are 300K plus for most of them yet they get just over melt and are solid silver . It’s just a party for resellers , how many coin collectors do you think there are in Australia.
I completely understand what you are saying because 500,000 seems a lot but there are a few reasons. The most important being that the coin was actually circulated. People got them in their change in the day and thought, “that’s different”. People just put them aside even if they were not collectors as such. A scarce but recognisable circulated coin will always trump an uncirculated coin.
