I watched most of the race from Rolex 3 (International Hairpin) and David killed it. I saw he won by almost 15 seconds according to the time sheets on the WKA site. I also want to thank you guys (David and Tom) for the awesome experience that was my first Kartweek. If I don't ever drive again, I will surely go back for the sights and sounds. What a blast!!!
Thanks for the video, brings back so many memories. I ran 100cc enduro heavy back in the 80's as a 15 year old. It's music to my ears the sound of a 2 cycle, sounds like you were pulling some good RPM's. It looks like 13,700, that's about what my komet K-11 did.
@74Lilly, Happy to help! I just wish I had checked the batteries on the GoPro before pushing to the grid. He took 1st place in this race and I would love to have captured the checkered. Not to mention the motor tear down! He lost his gauges on lap 3 and when i opened the top of the motor the piston was a beautiful white! If that had happened to me... I would have stuck the motor! My first race at Daytona was in 84, back then the sprint class cut off entries at 140. We would race daytona and then go straight to Jacksonville's 103 Street Complex with the same kart. I miss those days! :)
The sad part is that the battery was replaced immediately before the start of the race. Did not have much luck with the MyChron's this weekend. One exhausted a new battery in 3 laps(MyChron 4) and the other would not shut off after you turned it on (MyChron 3). I had hopes of overlaying the data on the video but that was lost when it died.
They range, the pp sprint classes reach a top speed around 115. The enduro classes are about 15 mph faster. These are the 100cc 2 stroke classes. The fastest are the super karts. I got a radar on them at 174mph on the back straight.
Hey david was just showing my dad the results and this video and he goes "hey thats david brunsim i used to race that guy" dont know if you remember the name or not but its wesley hiser.. just thought id comment
You think that is crazy... You should see the classes that do 170+mph! One day i hope to try one of those.. :) This is actually one of the slower classes. Aerodynamics play huge role in performance and tracks like this highlight just how much. This is a 100cc 2 stroke motor using a centrifugal force clutch, there is no gear box. Takes a while to get up to speed but, as you can see in the video, the aero package allows you to easily beat a 125cc shifter kart. The greatest part about racing karts, all of the speed at a fraction of the cost... and you get to experience that speed 2 inches off the ground! It is a rush like no other!
deepsea36 how did you get into this class of kart? That is so badass looking. Trying to get into karting but can’t find a lot of info on the different classes. Or not looking in the right place.
