2013 - 2014 Honda Accord CVT 0-60 MPH driving test. 2013 Honda Accord Sport with CVT transmission. Driven in 3 different modes. HondaPro Jason drives them all. A sport mode where you can see the rpm go right up 2 the RedLine and stay there as the car keeps accelerating. A sport mode using the paddle shifters. A regular drive mode where you can see and hear VTEC kick in. Driving a 2013 Honda Accord Sport you can hear the dual exhaust and it sounds great. This was filmed and edited to show the power and acceleration of the Honda CVT transmission in a 0-60 MPH test.
For more info on Honda please visit www.honda.com/

There is one good use i can imagine for them: Using them to hold the transmission at a constant gear ratio for engine braking down hill.

It's about time someone actually comments with common sense. You wouldn't believe all of the idiots talking about how the new Altima and Maxima are "faster because they fake shift." Yes, Nissan programmed their CVT to act like a regular auto by telling it to fake shift.
@palebeachbum
@palebeachbum 11 лет назад
Looked very quick! I'm impressed. I bought my first CVT equipped Nissan not too long ago and I honestly prefer it to a traditionally geared transmission. I love the lack of shift-shock. The complete lack of downshifts going up hills or passing on the highway is SO appreciated. If you drive a car hard, then yes, you'll hate CVT because you make the engine scream. You're probably pushing the car too hard to begin with no matter the transmission.

guys down below, this is NOT a major fail. This is the 4 cyl accord and for what it is, the car is quite peppy/quick. Lets not forget back in 2003 the 3.0L v6 which was 240 hp with the 5 speed auto only did 0 - 60 mph in 7.3-7.5 seconds depending on which mag was testing. That was the TOP engine. This is the base engine and it nearly matches those numbers. Today however you can get the v6 which blows the doors off most average cars

I really like the Accord but I like the Altima to. However this CVT seems a lot faster than Nissans CVT. Would you recommend a 2014 Honda Accord LX. That's the one I'm thinking about buying. Or a Nissan Altima 2.5 S. Are you having any problems with the Accord?
@MatTZI014
@MatTZI014 10 лет назад
Robert Schneider I have the 2013 Accord Sport. The CVT is actually faster on the Accord than the Altima. My sister has a 2012 Altima 2.5 S and it's not very comfortable to passengers because it jerks back and fourth immensely when accelerating and braking; Too much body roll too that it's very uncomfortable. It makes you think that the car is going to flip over. It gives me a headache on long commutes and such. The Accord has an extremely smooth and comfortable ride whether cruising or accelerating. It doesn't have too much body roll and handles a trillion times better. Braking is also very nice. Overall the Accord feels much more sturdy and robust than the Altima. Reliability and Resale value for the Accord are very high in the whole car industry. That isn't the case for the Altima. The Altima has horrendous reliability and resale value.

CVT+VTEC= Awesome. Even when people take their manual transmission Hondas on the dyno for a high-speed run, it allows the engine to be optimized at a specific engine speed with the most power, usually at higher rpms. Putting a CVT makes the VTEC engine fully engage for maximum horsepower and torque, but of course it won't be fuel efficient, when you floor it. CVT also is meant to save fuel by lightly pressing the gas pedal to get up to speed.

I've had my 2014 Accord for nearly 2 years. It isn't very satisfying to drive but the speed sneaks up on you. It's an easy car to go 80 - 85 in without a lot of fuss. When you want to go quick, it'll move, but the droning of the motor and the smoothness of the transmission conspire to suppress the sensation of acceleration.

Sorry, HondaPro Jason, I was being tongue in cheek. Assuming CVT's end up being sufficiently reliable, they are the ultimate transmission-the equivalent of a 983 speed automatic. The whiners and complainers have totally missed that. Assuming proper programming, the CVT is always in the correct "gear" for what the driver is demanding. It is a rare automobile technology that significantly improves both fuel efficiency AND performance. Kudos to Honda for what appears to be best of the CVT breed.

megadriver6 BMW recommends an oil change once a year. I'm kind of iffy about that so I just get one every 6 months or roughly 7,000 miles. I think car manufacturers like Merc, BMW, etc have really long oil change intervals because they're trying to save money since the oil change under warranty comes out of their pocket. I don't mind paying $90 to have a smoother engine with fresh oil and filter anyway!

+Raz Gavrieli I though the whole idea of a CVT is extremely stupid. With a traditional auto, you can adapt your driving style, and apply as much throttle is necessary for the engine to operate most efficiently at a given rpm and have instant acceleration for pulling out of a junction, merging or overtaking when necessary. With a CVT, instant acceleration feels laggy as if the transmission can't keep up with the engine at uncomfortably high for pro-long times, whereas a normal auto would have reved, moved up a gear and dropped those rpms and plus, you don't have to rev as high as a CVT to achieve those tasks.

I thought the sound in this video is misleading. I bought the Accord Sport in December. The CVT in this thing is amazing. It's no wonder they banned CVTs in F1 motorsports. It's too fast! I admit when the engine is a little cold, the car tends to jerk but once it's nice and warm it runs like a V6. My friends keep asking me if I'm driving a V6 because it sounds like one. This thing is a looker as well. My family seriously thought I brought home a 5 series BMW when I showed it to them. Great car.

It's amazing how quick the new 4cyl CVT Accord is. I'd love to get my hands on a 6MT model tho. Have you seen a Sport 6MT come in yet?

VTEC 'kicks in' on all Hondas. They all are set up differently, so they are not all the same RPM's for VTEC.

That is a great question. I would have to drive it. I have not had any of my clients say that issue has happen to them. It might be normal. I would bring it to a Honda dealer and drive another V6 to test it.

Honda's first mainstream CVT was Honda HX in 1996. They have improved that technology greatly since then. I have seen many Civic HX's with 200k plus on them. Yes, Nissan has good reliability but Honda does also. Thank you for your feedback and for watching. HPJ

Not bad for a stock 4 banger. Sport mode w/o shifters is likely ideal, it'll keep the revs at peak power.

This was a friends car with miles on it. Also the engine and CVT are built to behave this way. I would never abuse a Honda Engine or Trans. I respect them to much. Jason

I timed the video with a stopwatch a couple times. It looks like a bout 7.5 seconds 0-60. That's pretty good for a midsize sedan with a 4 cylinder and automatic, especially considering the driver had traction control on and didn't brake torque it.

Your saying you weren't a Ford guy, but we all know you were and still are. The way you support the car, without even CONSIDERING the benefits of the Accord shows that your a fanboy. The Accord has more advanced tech, as well as a solid, luxurious feel. I think that your the only one who thinks the accord is crap... Remember there still is a 6-speed accord as well

It accelerates faster and gets better gas mileage than a "real" automatic. Other manufacturers are willing to compromise mileage and acceleration so folks like you can have the "real" thing.

I drove Accord MT and AT and the observations in comparo with Fusion are cabin quietness above 60 mph,the interior soft touch materials used and their quality,tech features,Audio system(best in class SOny),1.6 MT ecoboost Fusion is a damn fun to drive as fun as Accord,Solidity and built of cabin I felt like i am inside a tank inside Fusion as well as Passat; Accord just blended with Toyota,Hyundai etc,Ride over broken roads and handling of Fusion were a tad better than what Accord could offer

Ive owned one of these since June, and I promise, its really not that bad. I do miss my V6/ 6-speed auto combo in my Audi, but I have gotten used to this CVT. My moms 07 Audi has a CVT and with a turbo, you get used to it the smoothness. For casual city driving, its just fine and accelerates with good response. Don't judge this car like it a sports car, you aren't going to be flooring it all the time. I actually think the CVT helps with low end power because I never need to floor it. I usually don't even go above 5k RPM even when merging on the freeway. The sport handles well too. Just wish you could get more options or a branded audio system upgrade, instead of the fixed trim levels.

I thought the same thing even the LX base is very quick (it doesn't have the same exhaust sound) I have not seen a 6 speed Sport yet. We have a few on order, so as soon as I make friends with one of the owners I'll made a full video of that monster ;-)

Hi, previous Honda CVT 1996 (Mine), for economy mode WOT RPM stays 4000 only, Normal D WOT vtec kick 4200 and stays 5000. For Sport mode vtec kick 6200 and stays 7000. But what I know CVT transmission wont last long , estimate 5 years or after warranty then problem. And repair are more expensive than replace with second hand unit :)
