That's awesome, Danny! Now, put your feet with it. Then, play it perfect 1000 times with a metronome with 8 other guys without ticking. Then put on a uniform, carry the drum and march the drill. In 105º heat - in the middle of a show after you've been running for 5 minutes - with a judge in front of you watching your every motion. Then post a video so we can all see you do it! Good luck!

Cool. Thanks for sharing the music. Colin's writing is interesting.I'll add this to my summer workout after I write this out. Wished we would have had this technology when I marched. (Fred Flintstone was a child then!) If the remainder of the Cadets show is anything like this, they should be in line for the Fred Sanford trophy.

What's crazy is that almost all of these guys are gonna be able to come back next year for their age out. They already won best drums this year, and with almost the same exact line coming back to finish off their drum corps career, I may go as far as to say that they may create one of the BEST drumlines that DCI has seen in the past few decades.

In the 6th bar where it's transitioning from the 8th roll to the sextuplets is that a right diddle to the a right hand first stroke of the sextuplets.
@xxsayabetoxx2747
@xxsayabetoxx2747 10 лет назад
the first eight note in the 5th measure is a left hit, the second eight note starts a 17 stroke roll which starts on your right hand and goes into the sextuplets in other words, you can just keep alternating the diddles from the left hit and you'll end up with the appropriate sticking for the single stroked sextuplets

If you are playing it at 75% speed you are in good shape, like the other poster said. no point in trying to play it fast. Even these guys dont learn it fast. They will learn the pattern, then the sticking, Usually about the time you have it memorized speed will increase. Even the best start out slow. Good job working it up.

Would someone mind telling me what the difference is between the "X" and "O with a dot" in snare notation? Are they both rim shots?
@TysonMerzy
@TysonMerzy 10 лет назад
The "X" is gockshot. the "O" is the pingshot. Pingshot cuts through more and its higher pitched
@johnathanwhite4878
@johnathanwhite4878 7 лет назад
Neil Krzeski well it doesn’t always mean gock, most of the time the x means just a regular rim shot and the o is usually a ping

I got a question on the notation. Do they use the tenuto (bar over the note) to mark a half accent? And is the mordent (squiggly line) with the staccato note a fuzzed/buzzed stroke?

don't listen to these guys man do what you want. As far as I am concerned I would not have been able to get up to the level I am now without the motivation to play hard shit like this. When you start learning harder stuff like this you will encounter some rudiment you have never learned before and that's when you go slow, beat by beat and figure it out, until its perfect. and then move on to the next measure.
@erenslostarm3189
@erenslostarm3189 7 лет назад
I agree with Baconator. The only reason why I got better was because along with the basics, i was learning hard shit. It's kinda like learning a language: the best way to do it is to have knowledge of maybe the alphabet and basic vocab, and then go live in that country. It's difficult as hell but it's highly effective.
