Elantra window switch removal and installation on a 2013 model. Takes about 20 min start to finish. This procedure is similar for all models from 2011-2015.
Great video. One "shortcut" you can use is to pop off the cable assembly from the door handle instead of removing the 2 screws holding the entire handle assembly to the panel. If you pause the video at 3:28 you can see the little white tab sticking up between the 2 screws. Press that forward, and the little white cover pops right off taking the cables with it. To reinstall, line up the tab on the front of the white cover (you'll see what I mean when you have it off and look at it) with the square hole in the handle assembly and then pivot it to snap it back into place (the tab will latch). I discovered this by accident when the cover popped off while I was taking the first screw off. I thought I had broken it. Then, I realized that it is apparently the 'correct' way to remove the panel.
Thanks alot for ths simple demo of taking off the door panel. The fix was easy. KJust don't be over confident and forget to hook up the door handle and lock piece like me the first time. Duh
@@jcx2bby iHave already took my door panel off and disconnected my power window switch already. But iHave had this switch off for weeks be isss I have been trying to research and find out if just one button on the switch can be replaced or do I just have to buy a whole new switch??
Hey thanks for this! The window switch (drivers side) on my Elantra just broke after feeling kind of odd when pressed or pulled back for a few months. I pressed it down and I heard/felt a crunch under the button. I have ordered the part and know exactly what to expect when I receive it!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I had the same issue with the auto switch failing. Your video made it so I could replace the switch myself. By the way, you don't need to unscrew and remove the door handle assembly. The white plastic cover and mechanism just snaps off and back on. Much easier.
Note, if anyone has problems with the switch, try spraying electronic contact cleaner on the switches on the door. It might help, and you may not even have to remove the door panel. Be careful not to get the spray on the leather or plastic, it may stain or discolor.
I just changed my switch. Thanks for the info. Only comment is once you remove the screw from the inside door handle cover the plastic cover snaps right out. That it makes it easier to replace the door panel later.
Wow, great video and explanation. HELP: Writing to ask if anyone has the same problem I do with my 2013 Elantra GT (also known as the i30 overseas), the plastic panel fascia surounding the driver door window and lock and mirror switches is "sticky" and the plastic surface seems to be sticky and breaking down. It is like this surface is rubberized and now is sticky feeling and also getting scratched up. This original owner car has been indoor garage kept and is 9 years old with 6k mileage. It seems that the design of these materials is lesser in quality and durability with any other car I have owned. Any solutions? I tri d to look for a skin or decal to put on the interior trim. Can't find anything on AMZ and Eb@y. I found a foreign Hyundai part (for the i30) that has the switches with a surrounding assembly, but not sure if works with the US Hyundai Elantra GT Models. Seems like the US facia around the switch is built into the whole door panel. Has anyone come up against this, and if so please share your solutions and thoughts. Love this car and it's looks today, and the panic roof. Enjoy the ride and stay safe.
Professional Video, it really will help me. Only I have a question related to the connectors inside the door. Is there any connector that receives ground from the Dome Light Switch? My girlfriend wanted to add LED lights under the front doors. I hope you will help me. ;-) Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question, and I no longer own this car to help you find out. Sorry, but surely there will be a way to get it done
You can order from our store. Thank you motorialkorea.com/collections/elantra-avante/products/2011-2013-hyundai-elantra-avante-oem-main-power-window-switch-assy
hey pal, thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars with this video. i have a quick question i can’t really find a solution to- i have a cable connected to the panel located under the 12v car plug that had yanked on my backpack and pulled the board out with the plate. i can’t seem to get the plate to reattach without the board falling into the paneling. any idea on a fix to this or where i can find a fix to this? i tried a forum online and was told it should just snap back in place and it kind of does but like i said it’s not connecting to the board so when i push it back in, it just falls backwards. anyways thanks for the video!!!
I'm not entirely sure what's happening, but it sounds like maybe a little plastic clip has broken off. If that's the case there's not much you can do. Even if you try to glue pieces back together, with plastic it never works quite right. If you're able to figure out if something is broken or not, replacing it is really your only option for my experience. Good luck
Unfortunately I don't have this car anymore or I would make a video for you. I'm pretty sure the same general guidelines would apply but the specifics of the process are unknown to me. Sorry.
Cant the panel be pried up without removing the entire door panel? I have removed the panel a couple of times for replacing the speaker and the master switch and figured maybe the plastic frame that the switch sits in can be popped out.
No, it is riveted or plastic welded (depending on year and body style) to the main door panel. If you pried that little panel up, you'd have a big mess on your hands trying to reattach it to anything. Assuming it didn't splinter apart when you took it out. Stop the video at 4:43 and you can see what I mean.
@@jcx2bby I have replaced the master switch already one time and followed this video. I have had the door panel off a few times doing sound system stuff. I just hate having to do all that again just to get at that switch again. I cannot afford a new car and my 2012 Hyundai Elantra Limited is the biggest POS car I have ever owned. I am going to see if I can just replaces the drivers side AUTO button. The first one broke at the black mounting but this time it feels like the button has a problem so I still have the assembly from the first POS master switch.
@@tarkusnj3 yeah, I actually Frankensteined two switches into one once. I can't remember what was wrong with both of them but it was different on each switch. So I put them together and viola it worked. I still have that switch somewhere.
So is this common on Hyundai? Same thing happened to my car and this video is very helpful but now I’m doubting if I can do it myself. 😳 just to be clear, if the same panel works for the other windows, then it’s definitely not the motor just the button correct?
For this series of Elantra, yes, very common. I wouldn't say it's definitely the switch or motor unless I was able to check it myself. But if your button is acting funny, as in, it doesn't feel like the others do, that's a good place to start. I actually have another extra switch if you want it. I'd give it to you if you wanted to cover shipping. No pressure, just an offer. Good luck!
@@jcx2bby thanks for the response! Yes, it’s the exact same way as in the video. I wish I would have seen your comment before I ordered it on Amazon 😅. I appreciate the offer. Thank you !
I replaced the switch. Super easy and helpful to follow along with video! The only bad thing is that my window still doesn’t work 😂. Do you think it’s the regulator? The other 3 windows still power down, just not the driver side one.
@@donnaledesma5837 ah bummer! That would lead me to believe it is the window motor or power to the motor. What I'd do next is take the power connector off the motor and use a multimeter on the wires while activating the switch. See if voltage is getting through. If so, I'd replace the motor.
@@jcx2bby Great video. Mine is doing the same thing. I can't seem to find the switch in gray (like yours). That's the same color as my car's. Everything online is either black or tan. Would appreciate if you have a direct link to the gray one! Thank you!
What do you recommend as a good, comparable, replacement car for the 2013 Hyundai Elantra between a 2017 Hyundai Sonata or a 2017 VW PASSAT? My 2013 Hyundai is starting to rust underneath and has a lot of miles.
A Sonata all the way. My mom has a 2018 Sonata and it is a great car. Some models had recalls for engine fires, but it looked like this was very very specific conditions and she has had 0 issues with her car so far. She bought it new. VW makes fun cars BUT...German cars are not known for reliability. I own 2 BMWs and there is always something going on with them. I had a VW Jetta about 10 years ago and it was the same. If you like the Passat, by all means go for it, but know that it 'most likely' will not be as dependable or cheap to maintain as the Hyundai. Good luck.
@@jcx2bby i found on aliexpress the same control switch but with the Auto up and down on the driver side. My question is can i replace mine (auto down only) with (auto up & down) ?
Hi Akram! Did the full automatic power windows switch worked with you? I have the auto down only and I'm thinking to install the full automatic. Thank you!
$15 for that switch used on eBay? If I may ask is that switch still being used today? If not, how long did it last? I'd like yo try and get a good wualiry part that'll last
Hi, yes it was 15 bucks but that was almost 6 years ago now and I see prices have gone way way up since then. They're closer to 100 bucks than 15 now, sadly.
@@jeremybergeron3817 yeah I see what you mean. Also double-check and make sure they're the right switch for your window. It seems to be some difference between the switches that say Auto down and just Auto on the driver side window. You don't want to buy a switch and find out later that it wasn't right for your car
