2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Charging system safety plug assembly replaced. *Do Not Change The Relay Until You Do This First* Part Number For Safety Plug Assembly: 37586-4R000 Look In the comments for Frequently Asked Questions ☺️
Already fixed this issue last year thanks to your video and guess what it's a recall now! Anyone who fixed this already go consult with your hyundai dealership to get reimbursed!👍🏼
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! My Optima did the same thing two weeks ago while I was away from home. I managed to get it home without a tow, and I started my mad research on how to fix this problem without involving the dealership. My dude pulled the safety plug out to get to the fuse, and he tested it. It still had its original 125 voltage fuse, and the test meter read 0.0(nothing). I tossed that fuse, and replaced it with the 150 high voltage fuse. Voila'! We got rid of the check engine light by unplugging the battery, and letting it sit for a spell after replacing the fuse. Back in business! Thank you again for sharing this video. I'm not down with wasting money, and you saved me from that.
Yooo THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!! That’s the exact reason I put this video up for. I’m so glad that you decided to take the time and do the research, with the hopes of finding something of solution. Imagine how I felt when I went through the hole internet and couldn’t find anything on the World Wide Web to do with this issue. I’m glad it’s DIY-ers like you & I out here. Exercising our right to repair. Thank you for commenting If you get a chance, like the video. Subscribing is your choice. God Bless Momma
Thank you. I’m suppose to go back tomorrow, 5/28/2022 to purchase a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and the engine light was on. The salesman knew nothing! And the energy flow level was near the “low” mark. He called his boss and the boss man says that it gets to high level the more I drive and that it basically charges and powers up while driving. He says he’ll check the engine light tomorrow but that could be anything. 🤷🏽♀️
I have an opportunity to buy a 2015 for $1,900 and it does this very thing I am so hopeful that this will fix this car after watching your video. The car pearl white and no damages (high mileage though) but a beautiful car. Just wanting to get 16yr old son a nice car for cheap!! Thank you for your video!
Thanks for the video and sharing your experience with others. When you are willing to do some troubleshooting and mechanical work you can save both time and money!
First of all, this was exactly what I needed to get my 2014 Sonata Hybrid back in working condition! Secondly, is yours still running after this plug replacement, or did you have any more issues after you installed it? Just wondering if you are still driving the car, or if I need to get rid of mine immediately? Thank you!!!!
I replaced the alternator, the fuse , not the battery yet but I had the battery tested and they said it was good cause it will start up but it has to have the jumper cables on the car anybody have any suggestions? 2014 Hyundai sonata blue hybrid is the vehicle I still keep having the error code “Check charging system” as the one in the video. Without cables on with a fully charged battery it just drains the battery dead and the car just starts dying.
Thank you for the video. My car 2015 Hyundai Sonata hybrid did this same exact thing on Thursday. After watching this video I called Hyundai and paid $72 for the fuse, came home put the fuse in and now I’m up and running again. God bless you. Thank you!!!
I’m so glad to hear that!! Like I’m so happy that Yu took the time to do some research and found this video. Thus allowing Yu to not only diagnose your issues, but to also fix it. Problem solved. I’m glad this video help. God Bless Brother. Like & Subscribe if Yu haven’t done so☺️
@@TheGonzalesrobert I have the same problem as well on my 2015. So I did wat the video said but unfortunately it still won’t move, great and VERY helpful tho.
God Bless. I’m so glad I was able to help you with this issue. I was stressed out the first time this happen too. If you are able to, could you like this video? I would really appreciate that. 🙏🏾
@sirshark1092 Did you test your battery to see if it was bad, too. Maybe it was just the fuse. My Kia Optima Hybrid has been acting crazy and won't start up the car. I don't know if I blew the fuse. My auxiliary battery is putting out 12 volts so I don't think that's the problem.
Thank you so much for this video! Replaced the safety plug fuse with one purchased from eBay ($85). Sonata is working again. Went to the local dealer for the safety plug. Parts guy said item isn't stocked. $325 & 5 to 7 day wait. He also said the safety fuse rarely goes bad, and I need to replace everything (EV battery and all at $$$$$). The 12V battery was bad. Not sure if that caused the safety fuse to blow. So awesome you posted this video. Thank you!!!
I’m so glad I was able to help. And wow! They tried to get some extra coins from Yu. See this is why, with a little research, Yu can save yourself some money.
Appreciate the information . I’ve had this happen to my car back in October and replaced some other things claiming to be the problem and now just two days ago I’m having the issue again. I just went and purchased the safety plug but unfortunately I guess that’s not my issue because it’s still showing the error message. I’m happy to see it worked for so many people though, sharing information is so helpful.
@@superwhosuper I charged the battery and checked its charge with a multimeter in each cell and there were 31 volts! but for some reason the battery charge indicator hev shows an empty battery
Had same issue, but just pulling breaker and replacing cleared the issue, then a while later the same thing happens. Had the power relay replaced twice, same thing keeps happening so I have another issue that makes the system think there is an error when there isn't. Looking for anyone seeing the same issue.
Hello, thank you and your girlfriend for sharing your knowledge with all👍 Am an older generation, just bought this vehicle a week ago 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and know nothing about it. Please tell me if the EV mode suppose to help me save gas? Am I suppose to take it to a charging station to charge ? I was told it automatically charges itself , is it true? Is there anything I can do to save gas?
so before you plug the new safety plug back was the small battery (12v) connected or not? I saw in another comment you saying to disconnect the battery
called all hyundai dealers and found the part. now they only sell the 150amp which there’s a report that it’s better to change to it if your car still has the 125amp. $72 with taxes. part number is 375F something. just tell that you need a high voltage fuse car is running finally! tks bro!
Is the fuse bad? potentially. If the fuse is bad, you have to ask yourself why a 125amp fuse blew in the first place. That is not normal and usually an indication that there is a different problem, or a "root problem" if you will.
Hello, was thinking about getting one of these cars and wanted to know if you’d recommend buying one used with 100,000 miles or less? Are they known to go for many more?
Just had the same thing happen in my 2015 Hyundai sonata hybrid. Luckily it was only 2 blocks from home. Tow chain got it home. I'm a professional auto technician/mechanic for 25 years now. I work on all makes all models. I have replaced over 100 high voltage batteries mostly in the Prius and Camry. And have been to more hybrid classes than I ever wanted to attend. I'm going to test the fuse first. If that fixes it? I will probably replace the relay assembly as well and Carry an extra fuse, the old relay that is still working and few tools and some high voltage gloves in the trunk then if this happens on a road trip I can swap out parts in a parking lot or side of the road. I'll get going on this tomorrow starting with fuse and retesting. I also have a snap on scanner with up to date software. I checked battery voltage in every block and all are in spec. And the voltage is just about identical in each block.
@@superwhosuperI tested the old fuse it was blown. Had to get the safety switch/plug/ lever that was the only way the hyundai dealer parts department sold it. My old fuse was a 125amp the new one is 150amp there is a TSB from Hyundai and Kia to upgrade to the 150amp fuse. I put the new fuse the car works perfect so far. The high voltage system has to be pulling a few more amps than it did when it was new. I going to check every connection and insect the cables just for my own piece of mind. I did have to clear the code out with the scanner to turn the check engine light off. My car is a 2015 Sonata hybrid limited with 90k on it but I'm not the original owner so I was told warranty was up at 60k. Thanks for the video and the info.
@@brentpierce7585 hey I’m glad I was able to help. It’s plenty of people with the same exact issue, and the dealership wants to charge them a arm and a kidney just to fix it. I don’t kno why they gave you a 150amp fuse, but the sonata will be able to handle it. I didn’t have to connect the code scanner, after driving around it went away on its own. But hey look at you Brent. Other people just sold the car/ got rid of it, not you. You choose to look up the problem and fix it and You did it. DIY-ers like yourself is the reason I made this video. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family. Happy holidays and God Bless. (If Yu get a chance like the video, any support is supportive)
@@brentpierce7585 i have a 2017 with dead battery. The car runs weak feels like loss of power driving in the city. Any tips on this issue would be gladly appreciate.
Great vid! Got the Kia version of this car, same problem. Had it happen about 5 times while on the freeway. Turned off the car restarted and it ran normal. Got the car diagnosed with a snap on scanner and they still can’t find the problem haha. Did you keep having this issue?
No. After that fuse was replaced, the issue was resolved. Hyundai & Kia are the same company but I personally don’t have any experience with Kia. I would suggest you check that fuse if your car has one.
Tha safety plug assembly is the main cause of this issue. That’s why I mention testing it to confirm. I took extra steps and I did not have to. Test your fuse. And go from there.
So I have a 2015 Hyundai sonata an I keep getting the check charging system turn vehicle off an do not drive , but if I shut the car off and start back it goes away an then does it again ? My question is did you get that before you got the check charging system, and did you disconnect the battery before changing the fuse.
Thanks for your video. I added extra wire beyond fuse, still occasionally goes into charging system warning situation, once this warning happens, the voltage I measure ACC battery is really low, like 7 volts or something. I don’t understand how does the fuse works? I suspect something in the generator get something wrong, but no clue of it. I believe there is no ACC alternator like conventional car, during the car in drive ready stage even engine is off, the ACC measures over 14 volts. What the hell of Hyundai hybrid system, so unreliable.
No problem. When I ran into this problem I couldn’t find help at all. Google, RU-vid, yahoo, nothing. Not even the people at Hyundai. I had to put this video up. I’m glad Yu watched it, and was able to save some money on doing it yourself rather than giving up a arm & a leg for something as simple as this.
My car is hybrid system warning safely stop and do not drive( check brake) what’s is wrong? If it's the same as yours, will it be enough for me to just replace that little piece?
So I have to do this same thing. If I can still start my car and it runs like it never happened, do you think it’s still the fuse or the relay? Thanks in advance
I’m assuming it only does this at start up correct? If so and it starts. I would suggest Yu get the battery checked out first. Then your alternator. Contact me after Yu do so. I wana hear what the issue was.
@@superwhosuper the lights only flash and I lose power when I’m driving. I can always start the car but after a while, the lights flash and loss of acceleration happens again
@@robertsmith20022i hope you got it resolved. my car also starts up still but beeps and says charging system error. my 12v battery isn’t getting charged at all. really curious what your issue was and if/how you fixed it
I am having the same issue, check charging system warning comes on while driving some times, but after stopping and turning the car off and letting it sit a couple minutes, I am able to start it and drive it as normal for a little while. What was your issue, was it the fuse?
Appreciate you sharing this! I replaced the power relay assembly myself. Did the same as you... Took it all apart. Getting a new fuse and probably will also replace that orange fuse holder too. I noticed people are replacing the fuse with a 150amp fuse instead. Did you ever figure out how to get the check engine light off on your own??
I have been stuck in my hometown for 2wks dealership here told me I need a new hybrid battery plus the computer system and was going to charge me $7,000 plus labor. I ordered the part and having it overnight to me. By Gods grace it works. Thank you so much for showing me this.
I have a question sooo couple months ago I drove the car and it would slow when I press the gas and the HEV bar when out all the blue disappeared. Could this be the fuse or the battery in general
Wow. Did you check the HV fluid levels? And I would suggest you check the voltage. You have your accessory volts and you’re HV volts. Use a multimeter and you’ll be able to tell.
Youre welcome. Believe me I did the same thing Yu did, looked everywhere for someone to help me with this and couldn’t. This video was made for you and me. 👍🏾 for the support
Did the car tell you hybrid system warning safely stop & do not drive before it said check charging system. That’s what my car is telling me 2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid. I had it towed to the dealer & he said it’s the transmission & for parts & labor it’s $6,000. My mechanic I normally use said it’s not the transmission he thinks it’s a fuse somewhere around the charging system.
I stumbled upon this old video, and not sure you'll still respond, but I will ask anyways. I am randomly getting the "check hybrid system - stop driving" message with all the beeping, in my 2012 Sonata hybrid. However, to this point, it still runs like a new car 99% of the time. I have gotten the message twice in a month. And I just stopped, turn car off, back on, and kept on driving for 3-4 weeks until it happens again. Being that this is intermittent, and not dead in the water, would you still think its this fuse causing the issue? Thanks for any info!
im in the same boat as you. i disconnect the battery terminal it resets. i bought a new battery from dealer today because mine was from 2018 for $240 and it didnt solve the issue. Alarm happened shortly after omw to work. disconnected wire again to reset, drove all the way home no issue. ive watched a few videos now and one said our older cars have a 150Amp relay in it and there was a service bulletin to replace them with the 175amp relay. but the fact that our car still starts and runs most of the time i think the relay is fine and it might be a failing power module that costs a lot more money...
@@seaweedmike I don't have to do anything other than pull over, turn off, turn back on, and roll on. Then it might not happen again for another couple months. Its weird!
@ryanshryock4243 i meant 125amp was original and now its updated to 150amp*. i hear ya...last time this happened to me was months ago and i had put a trickle charger on my battery to ensure it was fully charged. thats why i thought to myself lets just change the battery...but it still faulted. i just ordered the 150amp fuse...its very easy to replace...i'll try to remember and reply back if it fixes it. one video said the power adapter assembly doesnt break and its usually the fuse so we shall see i guess. i have a 2012 as well with 213k miles...drives just fine except for the hybrid system faulting.
@@seaweedmike I bought the new 150 amp fuse online last week for $40. OEM Hyundai one. I am just carrying it around just in case it blows, since it seems to be an issue. I see its easy to install. But I don't think I will replace it until it blows. A fuse is either blown or its not. Obviously mine's not. My car has 186k on it, but had a brand new transmission put in at 100K under warranty, and a new engine per the recall, at 150K. So I can't get rid of this car! Its still pristine. lol
@@superwhosuper thanks. My car did the same exact thing my ready was blinking and all warning lights was on and it was saying check charging system. Hoping this works. Thanks again
Hello, I don’t know you at all , I thank the lord for your presenting this RU-vid video. I have a 2015 sonata hybrid that had this very present issue , due to this video, it has saved me a great amount of shop time and money. My car is operating like new . Thankyou 😅
Have you experienced the gas engine running all the time. I used your video to replace the fuse. All working good now. But my MPG is down in the 20s, and the energy flow display shows the engine is running almost all the time. Any tips or experience with that?
Then you may need a tune up. I’m glad to hear you fixed your other issue. Far as the engine being on constantly, the battery may have an issue. (EV battery)
I apologize, I’m just seeing this comment. You may have a connection issue. But testing the fuse is the first thing you should do. If you get a chance I would love to hear a update.
