I’ve got that same engine on my 2013 Nitro Z-9. I love it. Mercury certainly has improved on reliability over the years. Haven’t had any issues at all. It’s a damn shame they discontinued the Optimax. Best 2-stroke outboards out there. Long live the Optimax!
@ralpro_mag My grandfather had one of the 3.4L 300 hp Black Max’s. He had his own fishing boat made for the Great Lakes. We’d go on Huron, Michigan, & Superior. That engine was great.
better acceleration for sure. 4 strokes have a lot stronger torque curve on the low end. I would say the 400r is faster than this model pro Xs (250) because of the horsepower advantage. I know some guys running the 300xs with the sportmaster lower gearcase that is slightly faster than a 400r on the same hull. The 400r has a much larger lower gearcase diameter (more drag) and is about 125-150lbs heavier than the 2 stroke 300xs. These examples are on performance bassboat hulls at 75mph+
I’ve got a 2015 Phoenix 920 that’s runs exactly the same speeds... 81.4 not loaded and 78.5 or so tournament loaded...🤙🤙.... Fury 25 (which it a 27 in anything else)
@@tjrou2005 Are you very sure? If you listen to this Optimax Pro XS 250 from 2010 in 0:47 in the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IG3454L7lH4.html it sounds more raw in the acceleration sound than your generation 2 Pro XS 250 from 2013. Can it bee the video sound quality or has Mercury changed something with the acceleration sound or anything on generation 2 pro xs 250? It is important to me because im going to buy AN Optimax Pro XS 250 2018 year model and whant the same accelleration sound as the 2010 = generation 1 Pro xs 250. That´s why I wonder. Do you know the weight in kg between gen.1 and gen.2? Greatful for an answer!! Best regards.
@@herrbananhjarnasmith7598 supposedly the 2013+ motors are detuned a touch (10-15hp) to meet EPA standards. I've ran mine on side of other earlier model ProXS and they are the same as far as sound. The new gen 2 torquemaster lower unit(wingmaster) is supposed to make up for the horsepower loss and from what I've seen and a few friends that's true. The newer lower units are faster and can run a little higher before losing water pressure. weights on the 13+ are 505lb
@@herrbananhjarnasmith7598 this was also filmed on gopro which degrades the sound a lot. Side by side with the gen 1, you cant tell one from the other.
Tyler Adams I agree, I’m the guy who’s like “why slow down”...the idiots that are driving circles around u as u fish with they’re bow riders deserve the 45°..amazing boat!
