In this video, I replace a leaking heater core in a 2013 Ram 1500.
Some symptoms experienced were as follows:
No heat/ heat not hot enough
Sweet smell when the heat was turned on
Always needed to have the coolant topped off

Thanks for the video my 2013 must have a leak in the evaporator it's been loosing refrigerant and no signs of leaks in and around the engine bay🤦

6:00 just my .02 cents it's easier IMHO to pull the fender liner off the passenger side wheel well, easy access and once you pull that plastic off you'll be staring at that third bolt, no need to mess with the PCM board at all, that thing was sharp and cut me like crazy

This video was very helpful I’m struggling with heater core issues on my 2014 5.7 , so when I have a shop evac the AC system once I’m done with the reinstallation could the shop add new refrigerant to my AC so it will function normally again ?

Great detailed video. At 3:12 your ring finger and middle finger are touching a wire harness with a blue connector and a protector on the outside of the wire, what's the for and where does it plug in? I can't seem to find where it plugs in on my truck.

Your truck may not have the exact same wiring harnesses. I only disconnected them so I could pull the dash out without them getting torn up.

Hey Michael, did you have to discharge your a/c system before you unmounted the box? Have to do this on my truck and want to make sure I don’t mess around with a/c gas

Yeah unfortunately you do have to disconnect the ac line where it goes in through the firewall. I just disconnected it at the firewall and let the pressure escape there but it does have a small washer you need to make sure not to lose. 6:13

So does disconnecting the AC line discharge the system? Or is there a special way i need to discharge the AC system? Then, more importantly, how do i recharge the system? I’m clueless about that. Is it something i can do myself or does it need to be done professionally?

Yes. When you disconnect the ac at the firewall it will release the pressure. I disconnected mine like this and it was fine. Just make sure to cover the end that you disconnect so you don’t get dirt or debris in the ac lines. For recharging you can go to Walmart or AutoZone and get a few of the ac recharge canisters and then get the tool for it and re-pressurize it yourself.

Okay cool. Do i have to recharge the system before putting it all back together? Or can i put it all back together then recharge it?

@@kobybutler2514 you have to put it all back together and then you can charge it. Make sure when you take it apart that you don’t lose the little ring that goes into the ac line that connects through the firewall.

My .02 cents it's better to pay a shop to vacuum out the AC lines before you do this job, then once the job is done pay them to recharge it, cans are o.k. but during this disconnect process you can get regular air and condensation into the refrigerant lines which could potentially cause long term damage, the safest way is to vacuum, then replace, costs more money but compressors aren't cheap, sure grenade cans work, sort of
