I know why manufacturers make these things very difficult to repair, but their habit of discontinuing production of critical parts for a truck that isn't that old is irresponsible. In any case, bravo to you for showing us how it goes together.

Working on circuit boards for years, I have found that when the glue around a component on a board turns darkish, it becomes conductive. It can also eat through the protective coating over the adjacent trace and there's your voltage sporatic voltage. I would feel confident that you found it, ALWAYS be suspicious of glue.
So I have a 2013 Ram 2500 Big Horn with a Hemi V-8 that had this same exact problem. Watching this video was very interesting and aided me in determining just what was wrong. Thank you for making this video, as from what I have found, this is a common problem with 3rd and 4th Gen Dodge and Ram vehicles. In my particular situation I decided to pull the positive battery cable and then follow the steps that you showed in this video to remove the tipm. I found several of the metal jacks on the bottom of the tipm to be oxidized. I used a metal wire plumbing brush and gently worked it along the surfaces to clean them up while trying to keep oxidized particles from getting on the tipm pc board. I also used a small file. Once these were cleaned up and everything blown clean, I used dielectric grease on the tipm jacks and I also applied some to the female slots of the 6 wiring harnesses. I put some on the tipm cable power end on top of the tipm also, as this had some corrosion. Once assembled, everything worked normally. I used the truck yesterday plowing snow, and all settings on the wiper speeds worked normally and everything shut off fine. The other win was that the original malfunction would also drain my battery, which did not happen today. Thanks again for making this interesting video! You saved me a bunch of money and headaches, and the fix was pretty easy and done in under and hour. Stay Safe Folks!
Great diagnostic! You may have actually repaired it when you applied heat to de-solder and re-solder the relay and resistor - sometimes minute quantities of water seep into PCBs exposed to weather (particularly if it's at the edge of a multi-layer) and vaporizes with the heat of the soldering iron. A lot of work, just because the fuse box is a PCB. Good job daring to dismantle it 🙂
I like your thought process and how you are not overconfident. When I am diagnosing something, I think similarly, but always question myself. The results end up speaking for themselves. Good job on the diag! 😉👍
Every time I get a vehicle where the wipers won't turn off, it turns out to be the park function in the motor. Motor has constant switched power and the contacts in the motor get dirty and stop working properly.
Nice diag and "NPR repair" on that one Jake. This is a perfect example of how "integrated engineering" will prematurely take many still perfectly good cars off the road. Modules and fuse boxes etc. are very vehicle-specific, and are usually discontinued after a few years post-production. Really frustrating that a seemingly silly problem like wipers or lights may take thousands of dollars to repair down the road, if you're lucky. Meanwhile older "analog" cars with independent systems almost never had these issues to begin with! Worst case is reflow a solder joint, clean up a relay, etc. and good to go! Ebay is becoming the only reliable source of used modules haha
It would be interesting to see what it woiuld look like if you scoped it instead of just using the bulb when you were testing the relay on the board. That would tell you if there was a change.

My wipers are doing the same thing. I also have 3 key fobs with new batteries and they only work on occasion. I lock the doors and they unlock themselves. And the radio resets on occasion. Could that all be fuse box related?
Hey man so my truck just started the fuel gauge says empty and the wipers stay on and I can’t use signals what could be the cause for me it started after they tinted my windshield
It depends on exactly what vehicle you have. Some of the trucks use a TIPM to control the wipers and if it has a data communication fault it will default the wipers on as a safety measure.
@Automotive Diagnostics & Programming Oh. Ok. I've got a BMW right now with wipers that turn on intermittently. And it wasn't an easy one. Wiper is tied into the mirror, rain sensor, switch assembly and powered and controlled by the junction box. The control to the wiper motor (module) isn't even a pwm. It's only data. So you can't simply backprobe and see command. You backprobe at the wiper motor and all you see is data. So then how do you know if the junction box is commanding it or not? Looked at all live data. Nothing else in the car thinks or requesting wipers on. Anyway. Long explanation. But the over complication of a wiper system! Result was bad junction box.
