Vitz is a safer bet especially being that you need a car that you'll also use for long distances.

There are some with panoramic glass roof that does not open, it only allows light into the car, but they are rare.

Its not a bad car, its very reliable and fuel efficient but when loaded it will struggle abit to pick up speed, the 1.5L is better in terms of power. It also shares many components with the vitz so spare parts will not be a problem.

Good car, but it's CVT transmission is problematic....

CVTs are not as reliable as the traditional automatics, they give good fuel consumption but they don't offer that engaging drive and are also not as bullet proof as conventional automatics. Which specific Problems have you experienced in the Ractis cvt?
