In this video, Dan Douthart begins with explaining the principles of spindle turning. He begins with safe and proper mounting of the spindle, safety equipment to be used with a lathe, and the tooling choices for spindle turning. He goes on to explain methods to layout and cut v-grooves, beads, and coves. In follow on parts, he will explain how to apply these techniques to make snow men, Christmas bells, and other future family heirlooms.
