Refreshing to see a routine without axels wedged in; unfortunately they’re ‘expected’ by the public, but they’re not the be-all-and-end-all of skating, especially since they’re the move skaters often fall on. Cleaner routines beat expected-but-fudged axels 🙌🏻
What is a figure skating routine without jumps? Can't this girl jump? Apparently not. That was like exotic dancing on ice. Lots of drama, not much skill.
She is a Canadian and World Ice Dance champion with her partner Victor Kraatz. What she is performing is a sole ice dance routine and there is much skill to what she is doing. Ice Dance about edge work and presentation of the music. Jumps don't matter in this discipline of skating. The music she was skating to was from Shakira and song was a African solider dance and was the theme song the World Cup. Shae-Lynn's presentation was of a Latin routine and elements of Shakira's dance in her music video was to honor the African people hosting the World Cup. Overall the performance was done tastefully and well executed. Ice dancing might looking easy but is a skill to control edge/foot work overtime. Don't knock it until you have tried doing this.
