I think Johnny Weir put it best in his commentary, "it smells like a changing tide". It's not that they're better than V/M or D/W (not yet at least), but they're such a departure from what has been done before that you can't help but be in awe of them. They're incredibly artistic (no kilowatt smile for Gaby to be seen in row 70 - paraphrasing Dick Button here) in an edgy, modern way. I can easily picture them, style wise, as top tier contemporary ballet dancers, or rocking any style on the dance floor, and that brings something to the table that has been sorely missing: authenticity. And thank God they ended up with Romain&Marie-France, I shudder to think of all their potential being wasted by the likes of Zueva (btw, I totally blame for, imho, never creating a program good or interesting enough to match V/M's skating skills). I do hope figure skating understands what their appeal means, a demand for a thorough refresh in terms of style and aesthetic. They need to embrace more modern music and interpretation in order to draw a younger audience and make the sport relevant for this day and age.

And your words have aged well. They are a special team and has pushed the boundaries in a subtle but deep way, in edge work, in physical articulation and especially in musicality.
this is what fans want to see: lovely and nice positions and great choreography and musical connection. not knobby kneed youngers, not jump-spin-jump, not arm flailing......
Your comments are on point. The first time I saw them was in 2017, the Moonlight Sonata program. The authenticity, beauty, musicality touched me deeply. None of the kitchy, smiley, awful costumes ice dancing of the past.

But don't you DARE try and diminish the "GREATNESS" of DAVIS and WHITE AND ViIRTUE and MOIR. They are in a class of their own and have earned a spot as LEGENDS in Ice Dance right next to Torvill and Dean. Papdiais and Cizeron will have to wait in line to see if their time will come..Don't count on it!!!!
