Acura is not the luxury brand of the "Look at me, I'm on my way to the repair shop" crowd. It's very reliable, not ostentatious and doesn't scream, "Hey! I make more money than you!" Leave that to the douchebag brands.
Well done informative review, too bad it was wasted on this car. There are some nice touches and details but the overall package is more Civic than luxury. This car is priced in the luxury zone but is, at best, near luxury. The exterior styling is so subtle that it is soporific rather than enticing. If Honda ever gets serious about moving the Acura line up market I have no doubt they will design and build a remarkable car, too bad this isn't it.
Come on people give this car a break! In my opinion it looks better than a lot of Hyundai vehicles like genesis. Acura is a great brand that makes very nice and reliable cars that hold their value better than the competition even BMW! I like the overall styling of the car and the taillights are beautifully designed and give this car a premium look at night. It is roomy and fairly fuel efficient and quiet car to drive. What do you all expect from a luxury sedan? It's not designed to be a race car so don't judge like one. Auto journalist always point to some flaws of every vehicle. Why don't we just hire them design the perfect car that has no flaws or weaknesses at all that everyone would happily drive.
I agree with you and somehow when you see this car in person, it looks great... Cool, sleek with subtle aggressiveness... It just makes a strong presence without screaming... And I like it.
I can't believe Honda still isn't wrapping their batteries up in a plastic/cloth sleeve. Come on, a base VW Golf has had that for years now. There's a reason the European competition costs more - they don't cut small corners that Honda assumes people won't notice
Back in the day as a kid in the early 90's seeing the legend and then later on they came out with the RL. Those models meant you had some type of money in there hay - day. But with this new RLX when I see it. It doesn't come off as the same status as the way the Legend and old school RL did. It kinda just came out of nowhere. It makes me think that Acura just wanted to fill that void spot for large luxury sedans. It like back in the day when a sitcom was on for x - amount of years and one of the actors wasn't happy with their contact and the all of a sudden rather than killing the person off they replaced them with a different person but under the same name, but that person is nothing like its character. That's the way I feel about this car so far as to its styling. It's sad to say at 32 I have thought about the Buick lacrosse and can't remember this RLX
In 2008 an Acura Legend was my first car and I felt spoiled. I was hoping to find an Acura to bring that feeling back but so far the rlx isn't it, a Lexus LS460 is close
acuras designers should all be fired. they dont understand at all the concept of emotion in design. it looks like something someone wanted to express efficiency.
These comments crack me up. I'm sure that most, if not all, haven't even driven the car. A lot of people like the car and a lot don't. That can be said about any car. If you make a car purchase decision by what someone's "review", then you're a fool. These "reviews" and I'm including all of them are one persons opinion and nothing more.
Can you review a 2014 kia optima sx turbo? Im looking to buy one. I want your opinion. Im looking to buy a used 2011 kia optima sx turbo and trade in my gas guzzling 2009 loaded toyota venza v6 awd. Im a honda toyota guy and never have bought a kia. Consumer reports says the turbo is beloe average but i tweeted them and they give no specifics why. Please help me.
Acura should just scrap the RLx and concentrate on mid size and compact sedans. RLX can't compete in full size sedan segment. Even infiniti let go the old Q45.
The car looks good to me so I say the designers did a good job. The only issues I have with this car are the following 1. Like most cars even though this is marketed as a "2014" model year car, this car was probably actually manufactured in 2013. That's one thing that I have a problem with and never understood about automakers. Why do they market their products as the model year in which they weren't actually made ? some automakers now are even putting out their products and calling them "2015" model year vehicles. It's just in poor taste and poor business practice in my opinion. Hey automakers, here's some advice....If you want to market your cars as new year model vehicles then make sure they are made in the actual model year. For a car to be a new year model vehicle the whole entire car including all it's components such as the engine, the chassis, the interior, the exterior and all it's other mechanical parts should be made in the actual model year. A car marketed as a 2014 model year vehicle means the whole car should be made in 2014. 2. The lack of body style options, you can see that this particular model of car is only available in a 4 door option but I think it would be better if they offered this same car in a 2 door hardtop, convertible and a station wagon as well. It would be good for their business if the manufacturer offered the car in these options as well for the consumers in my opinion. 3. The lack of color choices. I've been to their web site and if I remember correctly they have about, what ? only 8 or 9 colors to choose from for the exterior ? and only about 3 for the interior ? it would be better business if a consumer had more to choose from. 4. What's in a name ? The manufacturer should have came up with a better model name for the car. RLX is bland, soulless, unimaginative and lacks good style and taste which doesn't do the car any justice in my opinion. Well, this is my review given of the car in which I think the manufacturer should have made better business decisions in regard to the way the car is marketed other than that it's a nice car but would even be a nicer one if the issues with the car that I pointed out were addressed.
OmgSteveJobs Not really, it's a different brand with it's own styling and identity. I know they're from the same company but they are two different brand of cars each with their own styling and identity, they are not one in the same.
what is wrong with ACURA and their bland bland cars with old tech.. they just got push botton specially on their MDX, its insane... Lexus learned their lesson and now they offer better styled cars, but ACURA still the same
amazing build quality, good handling, resale, low cost to maintain, smooth efficient power, state of the art technology and supreme comfort, all at over 10,000 dollars less than an equally equipped flagship from other luxury brands. it doesn't do much to stick out but what it does really well is understated luxury. its a smooth moderately powerful luxury car that doesn't scream im a big gas hog rwd v8 douche car and some people like that. however, this class is all about statements and paper specs and Acura has never had that despite their constant success.
at almost the identical size of a Lexus GS (exact same wheelbase), I think that the latter car is far superior in nearly every category. It is cheaper too!
Torrey B RLX is safer! Take a look at some of the crash scores of Toyota and Lexus and compare then to Acura and Honda for the small overlap crash test.
$60K for a front wheel drive?!?!?... no matter how many options they put in it, still not a proper car. for this money i can get E class or 5 series or GS. any of these 3 much better choices.
