Customer only had one key and wanted to add a spare. Using the Autel IM508 and XP400 I was able to add a key through OBD with no issues. During the process the Autel was able to update CAS software as well.

You really didn't 100% know what to happen or even succeed, I liked that. This is as we mostly actually have to do it, we do not know about every car until finished. But I would not dare to do a vehicle (especially not a BMW) without a BSU. Me too are (now) on the same Autel stuff as you have, but not the Van (as we do not normally do not have call outs in our country - ppl would hardly pay for that anyway It would cost us way too much here. Like never needed to do AKL).
I don't recommend doing a CAS 3 through the ODB if the update doesn't work the car goes unresponsive and if you don't have a cheaper local reprogramming shop near by BMW is gonna charge you up to 1345 for the fix!
Hi quick question please. Does it have to be a clean key, as in brand new or could it be a second key from a donor car. Can you program a donor key to BMW X1 please. Thanks
