i’ve had a chevy spark as my rental car for 3 months now while my veloster N has been in the shop, i love seeing this car get absolutely demolished. been watching crash tests of this shoebox for 30 minutes now.

A van drove into a friend's Chevy spark, frontal at 50 mph and while both vehicles punched their brakes for about 25 meters. It all went very quick however he is about 6,5 ft tall and he suffered no injuries at all. The sheer impact of coming to a halt almost instantly made him nauseous for hours afterwards. Though I can imagine that could also partially be caused by the panic he experienced while crashing.

thing about micro cars like the Smart is that they can contain very high strength safety cages but they have little crumple zones to absorb the impact to help reduce forces onto the body. Airbags can only do soo much to reduce the sudden forces onto the body, but they can't help absorb the impact like crumple zones can from reaching the body. Granted micro cars are much safer now then they ever have been, but there is no way around the laws of physics.

You did not watch the crash test of a Smart going into a Full Sized Mercedes sedan then.

Objects going at each other during speed usually result in anything but coming to a dead stop. It's called inertia, might want to look it up.

and where did I say it would come to a dead stop? you might want to reread what I wrote. i'm referring to impacts and how absorbtion plays a pivotal role in the crash energy that a safety cage doesn't. which is due to the lack of size on the smart for two which has little to absorb the crash energy. you can see that in the 5th gear video how even though the safety cage held up hitting the wall at 60mph, it would have killed the driver in the car because it had little to absorb the impact forces.
