DUCATI SCREWED ME! I purchased a brand new Monster 1200S from Ducati/Hudson Valley Motors NY which was unexpectedly defective from the manufacturer. It would shift into neutral unexpectedly even when shifting up from 3rd or 4th. Could not shift into Neutral from a dead stop. I notified them, but was told the bike needed a break in period to the first fluid change and I was unfamiliar with Ducati. So I rode it wearily for 700 mile, had the oil changed and still nothing changed. Ducati kept the bike 4 times, but each time they said it was fixed, it wasn't. Finally, they agreed to repurchase the bike as unrepairable. But for pointing out the flaw, they penalized me by charging me for "damages" which even the service department had not reported all the times I brought it to be fixed. DUCATI HAS NO INTEGRITY. IRRATIONAL PRIDE DOES NOT MAKE UP FOR MANUFACTURING INCOMPETENCE. I deserved to have a new bike and it was not my fault the bike was defective from the manufacturer!
AdoreYouInAshXI 1190sx .. both offering massive torque. EBR offering is a little more track oriented vs the KTM more street. Both have extremely similar power bands though.
Texarmageddon Yeah but I'd say the KTM wins because of it's tech features and riding position. The 1190sx has more of a sport bike feel to it and still leans over far too much for my taste. And those fairings X_X.
AdoreYouInAshXI Doesn't matter now... EBR is no more .. i didn't know till Phillip told me.. The bike only sold for about two years I believe.. i wouldn't dare recommend anyone to pick one up now.
Texarmageddon EBR seriously went bankrupt? I didn't know that either. I don't know man. I really don't want to spend 16,500-17,500 on the KTM but I want it so bad. I want a bike with that performance but with a comfortable riding position and ABS at least, if not TC (I don't ride like a hooligan as far as wheelies and all that shit) but I do like a lot of torque and speed.
What class of bikes is this? I'm trying to get into bikes and i like bikes like this that have low end torque and no faring/flaring? compared to superbikes.
Ducati dealers in south Africa were so bad and so expensive that they eventually all closed down. Porsche South Africa eventually bought out the whole importers licence and closed down every single dealer. Ducati here now has one branch and suddenly its a brand we can trust and love again. Prices came down and service levels are trough the roof. Well done to Porsche SA for doing this
The ducati had the most face time, and most of it was, or seemed negative, even when trying to make it sound better. The suspension on that one curve was just about bottomed out @ time 3:08 where its was meant to be said, that it needs more damping, its not called dampening.....Maybe it needs a heavier spring, I have seen old sv650 do a better job, well almost ? At least you guys did not cover the bad stuff completely, like the gauge, a new Honda CBR500r is better to be seen; I agree a analog gauge would do much better, even one made from 1978. These can be fun bikes, but when things go wrong, they can be a nightmare, day or night.....But thats goes for any, more so when there suppose to be top shelf, and they are not acting like it !
I love Ducs, and will prob stay a customer a long time.....I hate the damn dealer here and it is the only one in the state. The parts dept is a damn joke and when the good guy quit, now it takes weeks to get the WRONG PART, wrong gear, or just no acknowledgement what-so-ever and weeks later say the part wasnt ordered, then a year later ask why I havent picked the part up. Prob because I had to wait 3 months for a tank bolt, that I got, and a year later you're upset that I havent picked it up. If it wasnt for LT Snyder's service books I would have pissed on the Ducati badge a long time ago because of the (only) shittiest dealer I have ever spoken with.
I have bought 2 helmets through this dealer and both times it took weeks to get a different helmet than what I asked for. And having to deal with the scoffs and chuckles of showing up at Japanese bike dealers for gear and service items is a shame to the brand. I love my Duc and want everybody at the dealership to be fired and replaced with actual bikers.
MrColombianDude I bought a S1000R and kept it for seven months, it's a excellent bike engine wise, I didn't get the electronic suspension, to expensive, the bike price would get close to $20,000.00 out the door. S100R looks like a Japanese bike with a very "plain" look. Now I own a Duc 1200S and I love it, it's fast and it's look could kill. Excellent engine, Brembo M50 brakes from the Panigale 1199, Ohlins front and rear suspenders and the torque is available at very low rpm. You can be sure that every time you stop at a traffic light you get a "thumb's up" and it never happened with the S1000R. If you're going to do track days, them S1000R, or better, get the S1000RR, it's your bike. But the "cool" factor on a Duc is incredible.
bob g it sounds good, but if you put on Shift-Tech exhaust it sounds KILLER. I have a 1200S with Shift-Tech carbon fiber slip on, looks a lot better and sounds awesome.
