( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost is a small but mighty little car...at least that what Ford says. The Fiesta's 3 cylinder 1.0L turbo-charged ecoboost engine is certainly small, but is it mighty? In another accurate, fun and informative TFLcar review Roman drives and reviews the 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L Turbo.

I don't know why the car co think people are so different in USA and Europe . They dumb down ower cars no turbos no diesels. I watch top gear and wish we got half the cool stuff you have. Ford is the only co that seems to be getting it and sending us some cool cars and powertrains.would like a new charokee diesel can't have one.

The Fiesta 1.6 TDCI is about £16,000 in England. That's about US$27,000. Would you pay that for a tiny hatchback? Today's national average $3.36 a gallon for unleaded, $3.85 for diesel. Average annual miles = 15,000: 62 US mpg for diesel Fiesta, 45 US MPG for 1.0 EcoBoost. Annual fuel consumption for gasoline model: 333.33 gallons ($1,120). Diesel model: 241.94 ($931.47). Cost difference: $188.53 per year. That would take the average driver 53 years to break even (not including the added interest or added cost of servicing the diesel engine). Knowing this, would you actually buy a diesel Fiesta? It's likely that the car won't even last 20 years, let alone 53.

I think everyone would choose a Range Rover if it were free, but with a higher price on gas/diesel, and a higher price on space to park and maneuver Europeans are more willing to pay more for a higher content smaller cars. However tastes are changing Ford is bringing over more high content Euro cars and Europeans are buying Dacias like hotcakes.

Just because Ford is offering this car to the masses here in the USA doesn't mean we want this pos. We are not Europe (thank gawd), so don't try to force your views on us. Anyway, we'll see if it sells beyond the tree hugging greenie types and the city folk, which I think it won't.

Check out East Anglia U-Penn St. hockey stick lie. (Political) Besides, if pollution was so bad, why are western countries taking more and more immigrants in their countries? Why hasn't anyone crack down on Russia, china, India, or any other 3rd world hell hole? The amount hydrocarbons, CO2, and whatnot they spew in the air is ridiculous!

Srotag Adirolf Wow. Calling other people sheep. That's really mature. I never mentioned global warming. Pollution kills people without global warming. That should be a good enough reason to reduce it. What do immigrants have to do with this? Also, the emissions from '3rd world hell holes' are much lower per capita than in the US or Europe.

"More power per liter than a Lamborghini Aventador" Now imagine what it takes to make that kind of power. It's no wonder these small, high-strung, turbocharged engines are having so many reliability issues.
@jackzakowski6952
@jackzakowski6952 10 лет назад
True, J.D. power has been showing these forced engines to have poorer dependability.
@BaneOfFreeSpeech
@BaneOfFreeSpeech 10 лет назад
Kinda. The Lambo could be tuned to make more power per liter but its just about efficiency. Ford isn't really at the point IMHO in small displacement engines that say BMW or Honda is at. They can make power on small displacement engines because the have years of engineering experience with smaller motors. Ford typically never had a lot of performance 4cyl. BMW has had a few, honda even more. Give it time.
@jackzakowski6952
@jackzakowski6952 10 лет назад
Brad Riley It's not about Honda, BMW, Ford, it's not even about the displacement or number cylinders. The problem is with turbocharging and direct injection on all of these new engines. This can all sound wonderful on paper, but people forget that this is adding complexity to these engines. If you add more heat, more pressure, more moving parts, more things that can break, more things will break. Just look at J.D. power's 2014 VDS. The more of these tiny turbo and DI engines we see, the more problems we see. autos.jdpower.com/ratings/2014-Vehicle-Dependability-Study-Press-Release.htm "Engine and transmission problems increase by nearly 6 PP100 year over year, accounting for the majority of the overall 7 PP100 increase in reported problems. The decline in quality is particularly acute for vehicles with 4-cylinder engines, where problem levels increase by nearly 10 PP100. These smaller engines, as well as large diesel engines, tend to be more problematic than 5- and 6-cylinder engines, for which owners report fewer problems, on average."

+That One Ford Guy Hey, who left the vacuum on? Oh sorry, couldn't tell the difference from all the sucking noise. Probably people laughing at Ford's attempt to re-invent turbos by calling them "EcoBoost" now instead of just turbo. Meanwhile, basic Japanese 4 cylinders have had more power than this car with no need for an unreliable turbo for many years now. But I guess being 10 years behind is pretty good for Ford. lol, it's like someone at Ford found out about all those turbo cars that existed in the '80s and just now thought about getting them to put them on all their cars. NA engines are always best, less to go wrong, and more robust. This little turd will be blown up in no time, as is the typical fate for everything Ford.

45MPG? I just read somewhere that it's rated at 43MPG. The new Honda Fit's 1.5L 4cyl 130hp is rated 41MPG. So if it's truly only 43MPG I'm really not impressed. Should be noted, only urban areas in California have traffic like that. I live in the mountains of CA, and we get snow too, but have no traffic. As far the Car, my Wife drives a 2014 Fiesta SE (Hatch) with the 1.6L and the 5sp. There was only one 3cyl in the whole northern half of the state at the time. And there was no reviews out for it then either. But even at that, we consistently get better than EPA ratings with the 1.6L. And most important of all, my Wife loves it :P

It's insane how much power we've been able to get out of the internal combustion engine in just the last 20 or so years. My 93 Ford Explorer had a 4.0 v6 that cranked out 165 horsepower. This little engine is rated at 123 horsepower and only a quarter of the displacement. Lol.
@MarkPalmer1000
@MarkPalmer1000 9 лет назад
+tlv156 I got a chance to drive one of these as a rental, and it does amaze you with the amount of power for the engine’s tiny size. It’s not like econo-boxes of the past, it’s more than just acceptable for a daily driver/commuter car- it’s actually a decent feeling all around little car. How long a 1.0L turbo 3 cylinder engine will stay together, that I don’t know. Most of these types of cars wind up with first time new car buyers who are just out to drive the wheels off of it and don’t take very good care of it.

I think its a pretty cool little car. My issue is my mother already has a fiesta from the first year it came out and she wondering if its worth the upgrade. I'd say it would be if she didnt still owe on the car but the upgrade just aint that worthwhile.

Fuel economy is not that good in this fiesta, fords ecoboost engines are slower, less efficient, and more unreliable than competitors using regular naturally aspirated engines

Honestly? The best looking car in the class. It's a shame Ford isn't bringing the next generation Fiesta to US shores.

Manual gears is the only way to drive , get your car driving on some good old English roads and you will see why manual is the only way to drive.

I just put down a deposit on a 3 cylinder car, the Elio. It will burn up those quarter miles

Elio is going to be very slow, hehe. Like 30 HP.

55 hp right now like the old air cooled VWs. Only 1250 lbs though. Maybe someday I'll put a small turbo diesel in it

215 lbs, the engine can be pulled easily out of the car with just 2 people without a hoist.

I hate the Fiesta and Focus sedans, but love the hatchbacks versions of both of them. Plus you get amber turn signals in the back for hatchback versions and more headroom in the back.

Why not a 6-speed? It would probably give the Fiesta at least 2 more MPG.

Probobly cost. That IB5 gearbox is also quite weak and the car is pretty much at the torque limit for the gearbox aswell

What an ugly car to put a good engine in. Ford should make a rival to the miata or the toyobaru twins and shove this engine in their for a fun car. Win right?

they did .years ago. the capri convertable front wheel drive. engineered in austrailia mostly . i think kia had something to do with it like the festiva/aspire it sold but didnt do as well as the miata with miata they styled it after a lotus elan , i think , looked great , thats why it still here. miata is like an icon. its not easy to make an icon. usually it is pure luck. vw beetle
