In todays video I rented a 2014 Ford Raptor with a Whipple supercharger and do an in depth review! I review the interior, exterior, engine, driving performance and characteristics and overall value proposition compared to a newer Raptor.
How to restore your old yellow headlights: amzn.to/2sQYokq
Check out this 2014 Ford Raptor with a Whipple supercharger, it rips!
The 2014 Ford Raptor is iconic, there isn't another truck in the segment that can compete with its performance and off road capabilities.

Best thing... imo is gen1 used.. 25k-30k. Then begin your mods...new suspension etc...you can make it like a brand new truck., .. service that engine,, fix whatever goes wrong right away... you can drive forever... that 6.2l Engine will run forever...you’ll dump 3k per year in mods and replacement parts.. but you will always have a badass truck

Just picked up a 2014 Raptor a couple weeks ago for $42k. Dealership just got it in on trade, rebuilt transmission, brand new off-road tires, custom Kevlar-rhino lining paint job, rhino lined truck bed, with folding cover and drain system and 60k miles. Took it home to find that it had VMP 2.3L supercharger, Stainless Works headers and exhaust system... salesperson had no clue and said "I don't know how we missed that". So happy with my purchase. Love the Gen1 Raptors and can't wait to take mine out on a camping and off-road expedition. Just gotta get it tuned right. :)

I enjoy my Gen1 Raptor so much that refuse to buy a V6. Don’t care about the tech crap on new truck. Don’t care about the recaro seats. Don’t want the V6. I enjoy Gen1 so much I bought a 2019 F150 Platinum with 5.0l and that truck is going thru transformation at Pax Power. Will park Gen1 and drive sparingly. Ford is run by idiots who want to waste capital on driverless tech. Why car companies want to waste capital on driverless tech makes no sense to me. Car companies can’t even make any car without a recall and I’m suppose to trust driverless cars. Pax Power is the way to go if you love Raptor look and want a V8. Pax Pwr is putting a whipple, tune, exhaust, and 3.73’s on my new truck! Should discard any V6 with ease. Besides all that Gen2 raptors aren’t holding their value. They are crap and sound like crap!

I agree with most parts -- I have a 2014 Whippled raptor as well (mine has a catback). I chose it over getting a 2017 raptor at the time and I do not regret the decision. I think minus being out of warranty and having Sync2 verses Sync3 in the new raptors (if that's your thing) the parts that shine for me over the 2017+ raptors is outside of the V8, you're also paying taxes on a vehicle that's much less as well as insurance. I spent $42k, no dings or dents, and it was meticulously cared for by an older gentlemen and that came WITH the whipple and the 37''s that my truck has. So I think I really lucked out!

V8 Gen1 > V6 Gen2. It's a personal preference, I love the sound of mine (Gen1) and plan on doing a SC in time. There's nothing wrong with the V6 Raptors at all. There is a lot of debate over which one is better. Owning a Gen1, I will say that the Gen2 is the better one overall, but you can't go wrong with either.

Opened this video purely out of curiosity to see if this is the same truck I rented back in 2016 and it most definitely is. It had 33k miles on it back when I rented it three years ago so it's only covered 6,000 miles in that time but they are most definitely hard earned miles. It used to have a huge brush guard covering the entire front end and extending around the headlights. It was scratched and dented just about everywhere, the tires were the stock BFG's and were literally bald. But man, I had a blast with it out in Joshua Tree and the Mojave Desert. The supercharger was just enough of a boost over the stock power level. It definitely was not a slow truck. Glad to see it's still kicking, I can't believe it is still being rented out.

if i had the money i'll get a 1st gen raptor, bedline the whole truck, throw in a procharger, catless headers, x-pipe, boom tube exhaust tips, get all the windows tinted and better suspension. since i have a 04 avalanche z71 im slowly getting it to look and sound better minus a few things i didnt get but all in good time it'll be done. both are great trucks but my preference might be a 1st gen raptor for starters or a raptor r if i wanted to show off a bit

My opinion is that Gen 1s are more of the classic they are 1st Gen like early Mustangs, Cameros, ect. So for me I'm keeping mine Basically stock, I did put Eibach leveling springs they are rated real close to factory so the ride is basically the same, I just don't like nose down. I do have a Lear Shell With the frame less windows all Tuxedo Black and my wife and I use it as our expedition vehicle, as you said with all that room it's amazing.

Hey man. I have this identical Raptor model. Since new, black on black with everything - minus decal (factory delete). About the one in the video - not factory paint (body or bumper (s?) not factory tint front bumper is missing factory pieces missing factory mats blank screen comes on all Raptors cell phone holder is for hip holster cell phones (Ford's demographic choices are mystifying omegalul) factory wheels ( which behind the fake bead locker rings are dual purpose very real bead lockers with all the drilled holes already and a dual lip design that is a little engineering madness that works) you still would have to buy the real bead lock rings from Ford Racing I get 11 mpg using 91 octane free of ethanol. 11 mpg fully loaded hauling a trailer that's fully loaded. 11 mpg empty and light and driven to the gym like a my grandma. So 11mpg is what I'm saying The seats in Raptors are actually a nicer more expensive seat than in Fords luxury truck offerings, more padding and support was required for a truck that they could basically guarantee was going to be jumped, hooned, offloaded and very musk used for the task it was designed for (warranty covered madness) the running boards are factory as well. Btw they are the perfect height to keep away car door dings a lot of the time. the interior is factory and sad and boring and and and. Man is that interior a letdown. Then i did a little research and realized it was all designed with function over form in mind. bombing around trails and dunes means you might need info or something within reach in a hurry and it has to work as close to 100% of the time as you can get. my truck is 100% bone stock and has never been offroaded/crashed and has perfect paint and about 25,000 always garaged, always taken care of miles. This isn't bragging I promise. This is about as close as I can get to a full and honest picture to paint as possible of my truck and my experience. If you have any questions, if I have an answer or know where to get it I'd be happy to help. Enjoy the hooning, be safe-ish ;-)

Here's why it isn't - Chargers don't come stock and 17's are way better from factory ride, electronics, drive modes and looks. if you can't afford a new one an old one with a $10,000 super charger seems like a step down. $300 tune on a new one and your about where the 14 is. The only thing the Gen 1's have over the Gen 2's is sound!
@Blueknight1960
@Blueknight1960 5 лет назад
A step down from a new one? Depends on how you look at it. With a new one, price tag of $60k plus, higher insurance, higher taxes, payments of $ 600+, warranty and more electronic shit to break plus it's only a 6 cylinder and sissy exhaust note. Buy used, lower price tag, lower insurance, lower taxes, v-8 and better exhaust sound. Draw backs of used, you don't know how the vehicle was driven or taken care of, no warranty. So you must weigh what is best for you but I wouldn't call it a step down from new.

So lets take away forced induction to make it fair.... the 17 is just a 3.5 motor... weak
@c.h.9827
@c.h.9827 4 года назад
having owned both, here's why the Gen 1s are better. It's a SVT limited production run with a bespoke #, that commands a premium over a Gen 2 which is a regular production vehicle, it will never hold value like a Gen 1.. and reslae numbers show that. 6.2 engines are everywhere, until 17 you can get a 6.2 from the Super Duty line and throw a few parts on it and have a new engine. Less mechanical failure on the Gen 1s, my 17 Gen 2 Raptor lasted all of 17k miles before it destroyed its cam phasers and timing chain, my 13 EcoBoost.. 55k miles and at 4 grand each time it broke.. that's not a smart financial move to buy a truck that constantly brakes. Gen 1s have less electronics to fail, again Gen 2s will have more fail over it's life span. You can now buy Fox factory shocks that ride as good as the 19 livevalve shocks. for a grand you can buy Gen 2 body work and get the looks without forking out the cash, you can also buy Sync 3 to replace sync 2 for those extra stereo features. The seats in the Gen 1s are also better.. so many Gen 2 owners agree. also, a "300" tune isn't 300.. email tunes are cheap but you need a tuner first.

You said it best in the video. People buy these trucks to have fun. 60% will never go true off roading. Maybe a patch of grass or fire trail here and there. The other 40% get the absolute shite beat outta them. Nobody goes easy on the fun pedal at the dunes or trails. Anyways... 2010-2012’s are starting to slide below $25k 2013 & 2014 can still command $40k ish depending on miles and the vehicle mods. Plenty of 2017 & 2018 up for sale. Lots of repos thanks to predatory dealerships and ridiculous mark ups. Having driven a stock 2013 and stock 2018. The gen2 is overall better. Who really gives a toss about the v8 rumble when you’re blasting through whoops and trails. Gen1 is great, gen2 feels lighter and nimble. The 10spd can get annoying tho... Fuel economy sucks for both. If you even have to take that into consideration...for a 6000lbs 600whp 4x4 it’s not meant to be.

As a V8 dude, the Gen1 sounds better, no doubt. The advantages end there. This isn’t taking into account, you know, things that the Raptor was intended to do, like off-roading lol. ** Gen2 has a much broader power band with the 10r80 (6 gears more aggressive than a 1:1 vs. 3 gears more aggressive than a 1:1 in the Gen1), +2” more suspension travel with 3” IBP shocks/coilovers, 500lbs lighter, superior AWD transfer case, stronger Raptor specific steel reinforced frame, improved approach/departure angles, higher ground clearance, etc etc. The Roush supercharged stage 2 Gen1 is slightly slower than a bone stock 800a Gen2 SCab. I cant afford a new so am thinking of buying a 2013 for 32k that has salvaged title with 32k miles. Knowing what exactly happened to it & how it got repaired will give me clear view if it's worth seeing it. Mpg is another deal breaker.

I saw one similar to what you're describing around Michigan/Indiana.

@@20smgreen cool if you think it's worth it go for it. I live in northern Ca so that where I saw it at. It blue like this one & it even has that nice blue dash with the seats in the interior. It's not exactly perfect but it decent looking.

@@damiangutierrez9103 lolol, I'm good. I already have one. 2012 blue flame with the same blue interior trim you're talking about. I saw the one I was stating when I was looking for mine in October last year.

The V8 sounds better but that's about it, the gen 2 Raptor is next level in every box you tick off. Frankly the super charger sounds like a band saw at least to me. And it drowns out the rumble of the V8. Twin turbo's sound great when you step on it. Gen 2 has a stronger chassis, larger shocks wider interior, more drive modes. Is more refined on the inside and has menacing looks. Oh and the little V6 shares over 60% of the LeMans winning engine you find in the Ford GT not to shabby.

David, don't forget about replacing your cam phasers and broken sunroof tracks in the gen 2! I've had a 2014 and a 2018 and the 2018 had a lot of issues

I bet the shocks are blowed out if you feel it being choppy.I just had mine rebuilt and heck of a difference.

Instead of rebuilding the shocks just upgrade to the 3.0's thats what i did and its a night and day difference i have the supercharger on the list for my next upgrade.😎
